Ducktales (NES) beat in

- Not my best run, but it is acceptable. Here is a quick level by level breakdown:
Amazon - I waste some time at Launchpad, as I bring the bee across the gap on the wrong side (he is a good stepping stone on the far side). Otherwise it is a solid level run.
Transylvania - really goof up and miss the leap into the mirror (just silly). I get some cooperation from Magica, but she is the worst boss for random behaviour, so this is an acceptable fight.
African Mines - This level is the most static when it is run, as there is very little screw you up.
Himalayas - An odd programming glitch occurs on the last portion of the surface, as I somehow step on a hopping goat without taking damage. I pause to collect the cake for safety, but it does cost me about half of a second. The boss fight goes smoothly.
The Moon - AMAZING music in this level. I make many small mistakes here, so this is by far the sloppiest level in the run. After geting out of the U.F.O. again, you will note I take a hit to drop to one energy spot, but suddenly my life fills up. I press SELECT and pay 3 million for the refill, and since it is a speed run, the loss of money does not matter. The Rat fight is decent, though it could have been better.
Dracula Duck Manor - The trip through is smooth enough, though I do waste a half second at the last mummy I have to kill. The fight with Dracula Duck is solid, though I was not making use of expertly times pogo leaps here, which cut a TON of time from this boss fight (if I do another run and record, I will make use of that to cut the time greatly). The trip up the rope is fine and is as good as you need.
Sorry to cut the ending, but was worried about the time limit. Anyway, hope you enjoy it. - Развлечения
One of my favorite games of all time. Thank you for putting this up!
Amazing job, it took me weeks to beat it. One of the best games ever made! Solid gameplay, excellent music, truly memorable!
Brings back so many memories... I used to play with this game when I was like 7 yr-old. I loved it !
I LOVE THIS GAME Outstanding speedrun I enjoyed watching!
Thats good to hear.. its games like these and all those other Nintendo classics that kept me playing Video games to this very day.
Great job man! Amazing game here
thanks man, this video is going to help me to get the achievements of The Disney Afternoon Collection.
I love the sound that the enemies make when they die :
"WREEEEEEEEEEEAO"
That was awesome. I bought this game for my son when he was 4 years old in 1989. I think it took us about a month to figure it all out. Fun game. We also played Super Mario 1 , but that game took us about a year to complete. Great memories.
Muy bueno el video, que recuerdos y nostalgia me da al ver este tipo de juegos q jugaba en mi niñez
thank you for this great video
OMG when I was younger I used to think this was the coolest game ever, I was totally addicted to this game growing up
Totally in the TOP10 of best NES games.. One of the only games I still like to play on it.
this guy for president.
MegaMan with a pogostick. One of Capcom's greatest games. You can hear and see MegaMan right down to when he picks up an item and it plays the music of MegaMan before you enter a stage
I have this game... I remember playing it a lot, as a kid. It is an amazing game!!
Good times.
My most vivid memory of this game was how my bro and I used to sing along to the music from the moon stage, and we made up lyrics "Oh the best part of waking up is the laundry in your face!"
I've beat this game probably a million times, and yet I never knew about using money to heal. The select button really is the unspoken hero of the NES controller.
Thank you
amazing
Never noticed that this game looks just like Megaman
They were both made by Capcom. Completely understandable.
Yeah I know
I definitely noticed that the bats were similar
Its not coincidence this NES title has catchy tunes and cool music.
The guy who made music for megaman 2 worked on ducktales too.
this is another one of those games that just has epic music, and it contributed to the game big time here. capcom is just amazing at vg music composing, especially these classic NES games.
Transylvania was the level we had to spend more time in: the first time, just to clear it; the second time, to get that key for the African Mines (unless you got it down in the first attempt); and the third time, to rescue the treasures from Dracula Duck.
Awesome!!!!
Oh man this was the first game I ever beat. Ah memories of my childhood.
I remember as a kid, coming up with all my own words for that level, because the music is so epic lol
'
Moon stage music was so great.
Love the title music
awesome
Warren Spector, the developer currently working on Epic Mickey for the Wii, has expressed interest to both Disney and Nintendo that his next project be a modernized 2D platformer remake of Ducktales.
Maybe we'll see this come to VC as a an homage first.
lol good reading of the description, it is a part of the game.
Racing Glumgold at the end was nerve wracking
I only played the remake of this and I must say, wow, those bosses look really easy. And the levels do too.
I think they're playing on a lower difficulty.
Cool!
I always considered it a bug, but that hardly makes it fact. Someone who knows more about these types of things could give you right name for it.
Dude, you made that look easier than one of thoes free mcdonalds give away games!
Yes indeed. Yoshihiro Sakaguchi (credited as Yuukichan's Papa) was a virtuoso with the 2A03.
I didn't realize as a kid that so many games shared the same engine. This is the Megan Man engine/code.
About 3 days ago the Duck Tales remake was announced. Scroll down and notice the increase in comments to this video at about the same time. BTW, great run man :)
The moon theme is a lullaby by Della Duck
Yeah, recording from a Gamebridge back in the day left some quality to be desired, to say the least.
two words... "Moon Theme" great 8 bit magic... maybe the best
nostalgia
Sprite flickering is usually not noticeable when using certain recording processes. I think it has something to do with the latency of modern day capture devices.
childhood I loved this guy sooooooooooooooooooooo much I miss it :( this 1 and chip and dales rescue rangers ^__^ good childhood disney nes game classics!:)
Response to the description: Don't worry about cutting the ending, it's not the best one anyway.
damn right son.
1:04 I ALWAYS KNEW THAT WAS A SHORTCUT -ahem- But could never reach it as a kid.
great job =)
I wonder if that was a bug in Himalayas when Mc Duck jumped at the goat without taking any damage =)
I love the music on the moon too.. I have it on my cell phone xD
Amazig - I needed hours for that (played the game when I was 10)^^
@Voxized That was Quackshot, starring Donald Duck. It was for the Sega Genesis, it wasn't for the NES. As far as I know it wasn't.
Accidentally pressed SELECT once when trying to pause, saw that I lost money... and realized this game mechanic exists. I am not sure if it is in the manual or not, but it likely is.
want this on xbla dont care if its remix hd or original. it was great when i was a kid and is great now as for the music on the moon level, genius
It used to be, but I believe it has been broken by a sizable margin at this point.
Duck Tales...a-woo-hoo!
Might solve a mystery..or re-write history.
Great Post!!!!
Your wish is about to be granted by Capcom, my friend.
From when I press start to when Scrooge touches the final treasure box is 9:19 (0:06-9:25 video time).
you can really see how mega man influences this game
That version you linked was either recorded on a computer with a potato for processing power, or it was the PAL version (cause it was running SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW). Mine was recorded on a North American NES and copy of the game.
And sprite flicker doesn't always pick up on a recording.
im so surprised that i can remember every single one of these bosses, yet the last time i played it i was about 5-6 years old. I bet if I went back now, i would suck. Like double dragon 3. i can't get anywhere on that game now, even though i clearly remember the last stages when i was younger.
Funny. First I had heard the space song when a friend played the game. Then I heard it again somewhere in the internet and I had forgot where I had first heard it. Now I can't remember where in the internet I had heard it.
@brisulph sorry about that, noticed the description after posting that
I don't count the screens where it adds up the money, that is just something there to slow you down.
5:40 - 7:24 Never Gets Old.
Used to play this with Chip and Dales Rescue Rangers.
LOL! That's such a terrible thought! That's funny as hell! Oh man, I can't stop laughing! On the same problem of saying or writing the wrong thing, I had a friend that called him Mugger Man. Gemini Man on #3 was called Jemima Man. My Auntie's Maple Syrup Robot!
Thumbs up if the music for The Moon is the best music in a video game since EVER!
Sprite flickering has to do with the fact that there were more sprites on screen than the NES was capable of displaying at a single time. Not the method of video capture
I hope they make the bosses more challenging in the remake than they are in the original.
Other than that, I don't care much about what else the remake changes. This game is wonderful.
i have this game but everytime i put it into the nes machine it runs fine in 2 seconds and then it restarts.. why?
Read the description, man. I am amazed that nearly no one knows about this BUILT IN part of the game.
This game reminds me of a different game but i can't remember what it is.
Capcom remaking... ZOMG GONNA BE EPIC!!!
Duck man got cane attack.
And that top hat stays on Unka Scruuge like it's got pine tar on it. Player 2.
Was there a shortcut somewhere in moon level if you took damage in the right spot you could get straight to the boss or something yeah i know it is more of a glitch than a shortcut...
Get busy schilling, or get busy dying.
the totam poles are accualy dolan!!
0:35
Looks like scrooge was goin after those blood diamonds. African mines. lol.
Please explain one thing--how in the world does one make the Pogo function work? It's usually push A and then B while Scrooge is still in the air, but I can't get it to work at all on the NES emulator.
Well, that and I hope they remove the time limit for levels.
este juego tan solo me ha llevado dos meses pasarmelo,es demasiado facil
oh my god. I played this game a million times as a kid and never knew you could pay to gain health! How did you know that?
Nice... you gonna speed run the remastered version when it comes out later this year?
This is why you don't fuck with scrooge when he's after his money. this is some serious shit.
those bees are from mega man 3!
i used to skip school to play this and contra and double dragon 2.
a swf of a corgi flying in space, maybe?
Why you didn't do the through the wall-glitch at the Moon? I mean that wall at 7:11. It saves lots of time.
....at this point does anyone even remember Ducktales 2...?
@0428733 It is not a very well known game mechanic, so I am not bothered.
@0428733 read the description.
@xserxses1236 "Ducktales The moon stage" i guess...
OMG, MegaMan's father was a DUCK?!
Welcome to all the people from the remix here to watch some Nostalgia.
This was off of a console. If I had done it on an emulator, I assure you I would have gone under 9 minutes easy.
awesome nes game! although its a little bit to eazy :P
