  • I put my Explore Scientific Refractor and Celestron RASA telescope to work and captured a nebula and galaxy. Below are the setup and capture details.

      Thanks. Yeah - I think it helps to provide a smoother transition, but it's still something I need to get better at.

    If leaving the green in is good enough for Hubble, it's good enough for me. I Love images that have that touch of green left in them. Nice work Chuck.

    You're a brave man Chuck! leaving out both your telescopes at night, myself I take in the telescope and just cover up the mount if it's going to be clear for a few days.
    I'm very lucky I live in a very quiet village in York never see anyone for days.

      Thanks Tam. From the sidewalk and street, my scopes are not visible, so that helps. So one would have to venture into my backyard to even know the scopes are there. Plus, having my Hummer barricade the entrance to my yard also helps.

    Beautiful images, Chuck! Especially the Wizard Nebula. I love it with some green in it. Often, I also left some green in my images because I see it as glow like you do.

    Your channel gave me this rad new hobby & I appreciate it, no matter how expansive it may be lol specifically your video comparing to Hubble’s shot of the pillars of creation. It’s my favorite hubble pic & fact that one person can see it from their back yard is the coolest thing to me.

    The green adds a nice touch to that beautiful image. I have used one of those foil emergency blankets to cover my rig during daytime hours. Reduces risk of heat buildup and keeps most dust, pollen & bird droppings off of the gear. If I know there is a significant storm brewing, the gear comes inside.

    Welcome back. Cool targets. I like the scope cloaks. I can’t get the honey-do list to start the observatory. I absolutely love the galaxy. It is very unique. That Wizard is pretty cool too. Glad you’re back.

    Great as always! Thanks for sharing and hope you feel all the way better soon. Waiting for my allergies to kick in any day here. Saw clouds of pollen blowing off a pine at my son’s soccer game yesterday, so I know it’s about that time where sneeze attacks and itchy eyes happen.

    Chuck, first of all your health comes first. Take it easy and rest up! Those wonderful stars, nebulae and galaxies will wait for you! They should be around for a few more billion years 😂.
    Great video and I like your rendition of the Wizard Nebula with the greenish Hubble palette! It gives it a more three dimensional effect.
    I managed to image M16 the other night even though as you know it’s low in the sky and my gear is the best for DSO work. To my amazement, I can clearly see the “Pillars of Creation” which to me is one of the coolest things out there. Stay healthy and keep up the great work Chuck!

    The green looks great.
    I've been using Telegizmos 365 covers for over a year through a variety of weather conditions. These include a couple of tropical storms and snow storms. One thing about the Orion cover that interests me is how it appears to go all the way to the ground.
    I keep the TG365 tripod cover on at all times. Occasionally I dismount a scope for maintenance, at which point I just put the scope cover over the mount-head.

    Having the green left in does give a much better feeling of depth. It’s all false color anyway so I say what you think what looks best is best. Maybe even Dylan “green killer” O’Donnell agrees!

    M94 is a wonderful image. And I enjoy your enthusiasm ... all the more better with your down to earth approach to your videos - especially as you happily spurn ads/spots for designer clothing, signed flashy prints and the like (!)

    Nice results Chuck! i left my mount over a few nights also outside and i placed a with cloth , do not have special covers yet, my mount looked like a big ghost

    Love the Crock’s eye! I just captured it as well. Using the 8SE with a non modified canon t7 and reducer so pretty challenging but worth the effort! Saving for a ZWO. Clear skies!

    Yes! I like to leave a little bit of the green in my sho images. I don't even mind a little magenta in the background although I still try to remove all of it from stars. I find that removing all the greens makes for a 'hard' image. a little green helps transition the colors. i probably leave a little too much in mine though. "Season to taste' as I like to say :)

      Right, that is something I still need to work on - not making things look like a "hard" image and trying to get smoother transitions.

    Love your astrophotography Chuck! I live in the Detroit area and the skies have been extremely cloudy all this winter and spring. This been very disappointing seeing all the clouds. I’m amazed that you are able be capture such great images considering the conditions. What’s your secret?

      Thanks Patrick. I was surprised last night - the skies were supposed to be clear, but the clouds showed up and never left. I wish I had a secret, I feel my pics are very lacking compared to what I might be able to accomplish in dark skies.

    These no amp glow cameras are insane just brought my 2600mc home along with my Stellarvue SVX080T 3SV. Loving refractor life over SCT.
    Yeah they invert the image an SNCR Green it kill the Magenta Stars but then the stars are white which is wrong. Stars deserve to have their true color shown too

      @@explorelearnshare8222 I used Selective Color in PhotoShop and Curves in PixInsight to keep tweaking the colors from total green to yellowish gold.

    I like the green, too. SHO are three color channals, not only blue and golden. It is scientificly more accurate, too, I guess.

    Yes. Love the image with the green. It is a scientific data, after all. I take natural honey that is made locally, because it has the pollens you are reacting to. I take it off the spoon so I'm not destroying the benefits by putting it in a hot drink. As regards a short telescope, why not a prime lens by Rokinon?

    Cool video Chuck, I hate allergies this time of year as well. Does it look any different if you do a 65% SCNR instead of 100? I tend to agree with you, that the green in that image is nicer than removing it all.

    Definitely leave some green in the nebulosity👍 SHO is a false colour palette anyway, and the argument that stars are never green is simply disingenuous in that context. I don't understand why people are so put off by it.

    You could make a link for amazon for the lamp, then when people buy it you get some prize. You probably have to register at amazon for the associate link. I like the galaxy. No hate but the wizard nebula looks kind of hard, like it's a landscape or something hard, not a cloud.

      Right, I see a lot of people use affiliate links, but I don't care. I thought about it. Maybe one day, I will try it. I know what you mean about it being hard and I struggle with that in a lot of my pics - to make sure it looks like a gaseous cloud and not a solid object.

      Yes, I think you could. But they do have a smaller sensor and many planetary cameras are not cooled, so they might generate more noise. Go for it.
