- Hi Guys,
I often get asked a lot of questions about my opinion on buying property, Whether it was a good investment, how much my mortgage is and what i have learnt during my time as a first time homeowner. So I decided to celebrate my 1 year anniversary (with my home) by answering some questions that I feel would have been very helpful for me a year ago :)

how much should you be earning if you want to become a homeowner
Hellay h it depends on how much the property is. Speak to a broker but as a guide, you're looking at about, 4 times your income. Depends on how much you spend as well, so cut down on the unnecessary things you buy.

You're not a homeowner if you're paying a mortgage. The bank owns the home until you pay it off.

exactly many fail to realise that. you pay that off for the next 25 years. prices can go up or down as well as interest rates. if you fail to keep your payments the bank can take it away from you.
You are a homeowner if you have a mortgage. The loan you have is against you and your agreement is to pay back your debt but your home is liable if you don't pay. As that will have the most value to get the back the money you owe if don't. That is with any debt. Secured or unsecured. Your home is at risk if you don't pay even if you don't have a mortgage. Which is why you need to be taken to court and the bank can not just come and take your home so easily. Neither do they have access to your home or rights to it. You clearly do not own a home clearly or have read mortgage terms and conditions. 🙄
@@arp5546 Obviously there's a process the banks have to dfollow if a person defaults on their mortgage but the consequence is that they can take the home of you. Lots of people lost their homes in the 90's because of the recession and as a result these homes were resold at a much cheaper price. My grandfather lost his home he'd paid for up front but because he took out equity against his home for his son which he son didn't pay back the bank came after the home. Trust me this market is brutal, you really need to know what you're going into, know what the pitfalls are.
icilmaa but that is same the with any debt you own. If you owe debt to anyone even rent, baliffs can get access to your home and take certain items in your possession to sell. Example they will allow you to keep your necessities like one tv. Anything extra like a second tv will be taken. Even though you own it. So your point does not demonstrate that people with mortgages do not own a home. This is my field of work. And my ex partner used to be a bailiff. I know what I’m talking about. My previous comment examples the process of why those with mortgages own a home.
