Excellent video. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe at the Inside:Outside sax camp (which I highly recommend). He's a super nice guy and a fantastic player.
I’m studying to enter the Lemmensinstituut (Belgium) this summer. I’m 49, took 20 years off. My tutor is Tim Bogaert. Cedric Delvaux offered a lesson (which ended up in 2.5h! - the honor 🙌🏻🙌🏻) and I’ll be playing Händel (sonate 1) and Suite Hellenique (chosen by Cedric). I’m so humbled and honored and it’s my second chance at living my life after surviving breastcancer 🙏🏻. It’s never too late. Make your daily schedule, enjoy the process because you’ll never the level you have in your mind 😀
Dear Chad (and Ryan), thank you so much for the 23:28 encouragement, you just gave me a huge boost. Love this video and all of the other Chads videos as well. Im already planning to share this knowledge once I get better myself, because the fact that you share about your skill and even work on spreading the knowledge of how to acquire it, is amazing.... Practicing saxophone daily for last year and a half made me realize, what does it really take to master anything in life and most importantly, that nothing special comes easy. You have to work to achieve, but the satisfaction of taking another step further is priceless and I believe that sharing and teaching this principle to the other people is probably even better.... Many thanks, huge fan of yours, keep it up Chad!!! :)
I have not been playing sax for a year or so although I have been playing semi professional ly for sometime, now with Chad inspiration I am inspired to start up again. He's an inspiration.
All of this is so helpful and inspiring. Memorising the chord changes is definitely one of the best takeaways for me... you can practise that anywhere.
Really great all those advices. I am a guitarist and I try to take advantage of what you say! I take advice from one of my best teachers, "try playing like a saxophonist!"
Amazing. I'm 37 and just started clarinet less than 2 months ago. I'll probably get on your program once my current instructor can't help me with anymore (he's classical and I want dat jazzzzz)
Obviously I am super late on your comment here, I hope you're study has gone well. One thing I will say as a sax player of over 25 years myself, and someone who studied privately and through universities. Classical is super important if you want to succeed in Jazz studies. I hated playing classical, but now I understand how that laid the foundation for my jazz studies.
@@MegamanGaming it has had a huge impact on my playing! I joined the local civic wind ensemble here in Austin and I played the Fall and Winter seasons. It's crazy how much I improved! I am taking a break from it now, because it's a lot of work, so I can focus my new skills into jazz development. I just signed up with Chad LB's text lessons, so we'll see how it goes.
Joe interests me personally because I took about 7,years off but had a good reason as it was health related. Honestly we sound very similar in experience in high school.
Love watching you videos, not only because they're informative, but because you seem so positive, which is very inspiring. Anyhow, what would be interesting to hear, is where 'you' got these exercises from and your progress with a/your teacher.
I got to be honest Chad LB...I'd love to hear a longer interview with Joe...I'm 45 and a trumpet player in Jacksonville, FL and I am starting to learn improvisation as well....I'm also an engineer so his story really resonates with me
This video is so inspiring. Thank you so much Chad for this. I feel like I definitely need to sign up with you man, as I’m struggling with some deep issues that I feel I’m not even able to describe clearly, but I feel they all got to do with internalizing stuff.
Great video. If the saxophone continuum is A to Z, I am just at A not just technically, but also in music theory. Do you have a progressive/sequential plan or refer me to a plan that would take me to B, to C, to D, etc. both from technical steps but also theory?
Hi Chad , I'am very happy Everytime I see You On RUclips. You are Good Jazz Player and a Good Teacher as well . Let me know What You Mean by Playing alone together. Thanks. 🙏
Just wondering if you also accept teaching instruments other than tenor. I play the trumpet but I’d like to learn more of the theoretical side of things which these guys learnt like the etudes and enclosures.
I'm not sure if you are reading this. However, this is a great video. I'm "Joe", I started as a clarinet player in high school and played a lot, for the most Dixieland and swing jazz. After a 30 years break, I started again some years ago. Then i also bought myself a tenor saxophone. I'm paying a little here and there, but I'm a terrible music reader, I always rely on my ear. I'm happy with my tone, but technically i'm not that good. I'm lucky as I'm able to play with a professional piano player and bass player. So how to proceed?
Is it possible to send an email with a question or two about your teaching. I want to join but have some reservation based on past experiences with other teachers.
I think this is a really wonderful video, on so many levels. Really enjoyed it. However, what I really want to see and know: what did Jo do, and how? A more thorough interview with someone that effective (and humble!) would be a real gift to the music community. Is there any way to get in touch with him?
@@JoMajorSax Hi, Jo! Just want to let you know that you've been hugely inspiring to me!
