You are correct, the fitment issue is unique to the bike brand, geometry, and frame size. I’d recommend anyone looking at a rack to check your wheelbase and cross reference that to the max wheelbase listed for each rack model. The E bike is beyond the wheelbase max for this rack. I’m rocking an XL jeffsy 27.5, fits perfect. Good tips on the bolts - will keep an eye out for that.
@@brandongilley4847 To be clear, the E-bike does fit. Positioning the front tire tray in the down position works, but in my case creates the seat/handlebar interference between two bikes. Which results in the need to always lower seats for transport.
@@dustinhoover3157 definitely, I’m glad you showed how to adjust the trays I honestly didn’t know that was even an option, great video and hopefully people take the points you brought up into account as well as do plenty of research- these things are stupid expensive!
I have the nv 2.0 with the +2 and haul very light bikes and have only driven approximately 50 miles or less on flat paved roads and have the issues with it coming loose all the time. I have made it a habit to check it each time I stop
I have the exact same problems with my bikes. I had to loctight the bolt which made it better but still comes loose over time. The other 2 grips are the hook rubs on the brake cable retainer on the fork and wears off the rubber on the hook and the other thing is I can’t lower my tailgate in any position. Now that just be my truck(2021 Silverado) so who knows. Still a bummer. It’s a strong rack, but not for me. I think I’m going with the rocky mounts guide rail instead.
Yeah it's a little unfortunate. The lack of offroad performance is a real bummer for me, but Kuat does give the disclaimer so it is what it is. I can drop the tailgate with my truck. Based on other reviews and comments I have seen, it's a make and model year specific issue. There are drop hitch adapters available that could remedy that issue. It will be a goofy setup and will likely result in a ground clearance problem, but could get you by until resolved otherwise.
I had the same issue with my new ebike! I just ordered the roof rack piston SR with the 2inch hitch adapter. I am afraid my specialized wheelbase is too long for my current NV 2.0 and does not feel secure for long trips. Thanks for the video as it was very helpful
Thanks for sharing your experience on the subject. I agree it is helpful to see the results others are getting and have a more informed outlook. I do believe these type of carriers will be fine for many people. Though it is a bummer that robust off-road options are so limited. Depending on your vehicle configuration, awareness of products, and availability, your choices can be few.
Thanks for doing this video. I've had the two bike version of the rack for a while and it's been ok but definitely not great in my view (as you noted, wobble issues, the front tire scoop and arm, etc.). But I just purchased the 2 bike add on and took off for a week on the road with my kids. I traveled 300 miles to Vermont with two adult medium (or small...I forget) size mountain bikes and two road bikes. That went ok but I was consistently watching my rear view mirror and checking a couple of times as I would see them bobbing around more than I'd expect. Maybe that just goes with this sort of design. But I tried yesterday to load the two mountain bikes and a third small size giant e-mountain bike that I rented....never mind four bikes, but even three bikes have fit issues. Ok, adjust the seat posts (not great but ok I guess), but in order to carry all three the handle bars are basically wedged together in a way that's just bad news and makes me very uncomfortable. What damage will occur? I've flipped the bikes around, stared at the rack trying to figure out what can be done and so far haven't figured it out. I'm trying to mess with the scoop adjustment but that seems quite minimal. My immediate and continuing reaction has been this is a totally lame design. I'm using the bike for exactly what it's meant to do. Meanwhile I called the store where I bought it just to ask if there was some trick to getting this right. On the phone they certainly can't give me the "oh yeah, we forgot to tell you, you need to do xy and z if you're going to be transporting four adult mounting bikes (and I'm only carrying three). Thus I went looking online and have now come across your video which describes the issue exactly as I see it. In conclusion I suppose this is my rant but I'm not a ding dong and this just seems really weak for an expensive high quality product. And I'm shocked when I google this that I don't instantly come across some info from Kuat that tells us how to resolve the issue. And one more thing, we obviously should be able to drive down dirt roads without having problems where a disclaimer applies. C'mon Kuat! Thanks again Dustin.
Checked it out after your comment. It might be a winner. The ISI carrier also looks really nice. However, they are not currently shipping to North America.
@@spiffpilot2589 I expected the loctite guy would have been here sooner. Hey loctite, I would like to introduce you to nyloc! As stated in the video, the tire trays were re- positioned several ways with undesirable results. The rack is unsuitable for off road conditions, and has fitment interference with similar sized bikes. Yes, those are issues.

Almost bought this rack last week, but after seeing you're size medium bike hanging off the back,; glad I got the Thule, no issues.

@@jamesbowie1820 Yeah it is kinda annoying. My rack is holding up so far, but it does make me want to get something else.

Dya think it could be different to other bikes? My polygon t8 sits better than your ebike. Rear tire doesnt hang like that
