  • Honestly, probably the most enjoyable brass instrument I've ever played; it's just SO FUN to play! Not a cornet, not a flugel, not even your traditional trumpet, it should be grouped under 'Super Enjoyable'. I failed to mention and show, but there is a traditional tuning slide at the end of the leadpipe, just as with most trumpets. The whole tuning slide on the bell is a fantastic extra. Some other great vids on Puje's:

Thank you. :) Money... The use of a mixer is a phenomenal help. It's also much funner to practice with headphones on and a bit of reverb. It seems easier to play without forcing sound. All in all, the uprgrade has been a huge benefit. If I only had this setup for my first 175 videos... :) Thanks for commenting!

Your comments, as well as playing, are a huge plus, Jon. I should have asked permission. :) I find the internet to be such a great place to share info. Regarding my vid, I lessened the mids and highs, put too much low into the sound and can hardly tell a difference on the horns. What a shame. I'm hoping to get a mic soon, then I'll probably unlist this and do over.

@@JonathanMilam1 Permission not needed. All things good when sharing fun trumpet stuff! As far as good sound quality on trumpet videos, that is hard to get for brass. I'm still trying to figure it out plus the editing. I have 2 mics, the Cascade Fat Head, its a ribbon mic, and a Shure 98 h/c which is a clip on. It would be nice to have a setup like Trent where he has the talking and the playing mic where he goes back and forth. BTW, I think people, like myself, enjoy your commentary as much as your playing of your various horns..your service to the trumpet community is greatly appreciated!

Great review Jonathan. Glad the horn made it safely down to Charleston from the white North. You certainly do seem to blend well with that horn. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Heather; thank you. :) This trumpet is fun!!! :) And not just a fun toy, I think it's a very well made horn. Kind of you to comment.

Not sure what you are referring to with price. I don’t know what Jonathan paid, but the new price on the American Belle version 1 was $1595.

Jonathan is a Puje longer than a cornet ?

    • @frederickwoods5943

My 2015 PUJE` Classic fits into a cornet case perfectly; shepherd's crook and all. Just one problem, the case won't close fully with the Puje inside due to the angle of the bell (not parallel with the leadpipe, a characteristic of the horn). Look at Jonathan's horn when facing the camera. Love my PUJE though!!

    • @JonathanMilam1
      @JonathanMilam1  2 года назад +1

Good point, Frederick; they are wide. And cock-eyed. :) Mine came in a ProTec cornet case; perfect length. I suspect they're very close to the length of a Shepherds Crook cornet; shockingly short. And with my big bell, even though somewhat heavy with big top and bottom caps, the weight is all in close. Incredibly easy to hold and play. Chris, I put a vid out Aug 29, The Trumpet Family, and have the Puje right under and Olds Super. It looks like the Puje is a bit shorter. I can check length and report back to you in just a bit. :)

You sound really good on the Puje. Seems to fit you well, Jonathan. Intervals and your focused sound seems to pop out of that Puje with little effort.

I like them all but lean towards the flugelhorn sound ( although not that specific FHL horn )I can buy a Pugy today for 2250.00 but not sure it’s that much better sounding that the FLH ….how much difference is there between the Dillion flugelhorn, and the Yamaha flugelhorn specific to performance ?I owned that Yamaha flugelhorn you’re playing but did not enjoy playing it. It was brand new from a dealer. I never bonded with it and sold it soon after my purchase …the best flugelhorn I ever owned was a Carol brass and even to this today I regret selling. So my three options are the Dillion FH for 500.00, the PUJE for 2250.00 or a Carol brass new flugelhorn standard for $1600.00…of course money is important but it’s not the major consideration. ( we play mostly Jazz standards I am not sure how the PUJE fits into that focus)…my main is AX is a Carol Brass 5000 Trumpet I am just looking for a second horn i can feature.
Thx you’re without question the best brass RUclips station on the net.

You're too kind - do go on. :) Just a little humor. :) If you get a Dillon Flugel as good as mine, it's just a steal. It's as good a flugel as I've had, I think, and I've had about 10. I think Dillon's has a great return option too, that's a good thing to remember. I really like the Puje, it's tone can be a bit like a flugel but it doesn't have the spread - because the bell isn't that large. I think Brent has had trouble getting a bell as big as mine since Kanstul closed; my Puje bell is almost 5.5". Such a great horn... Oh, I've got a friend in Canada that may sell a Zeus flugel with a copper bell; it would be less than a Carol. Zig made them for the Zeus guy. And I always buy used; I'm allergic to new prices.

    • @JonathanMilam1

Probably close to $100 American. A bit high above the norm, but the last trumpet I sent to Californial cost me over $60, so not too bad.

Yes, indeed! Just call me Mr. Moneybags. :) Really, I was very lucky, I have a great trumpet-friend in Canada that wanted a horn I had, and was interested in another horn we'd both been looking at. We wound up trading; she got two very nice Silver-plated Bb horns, and I got the Puje and a lesser known Bb trumpet, too. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a Puje. It's a magnificent horn; such fun to play. :)

Hmmm, as far as I know I am the only custom horn maker in the US to offer something under $2000. As I mentioned above, the new price on this horn, which was built in 2017 was $1595. I am releasing The PUJÉ V4 this year with custom HG valves and a Kanstul bell for $1750. Very similar to the AB except it uses my #3 bell.

I wasn’t meaning it wasn’t worth that price. My comment was meaning for a retired senior on a fixed income that was high for me. However, if uncle Biden sees fit to send me extra money soon I might just send it straight to you so I can get one.
