soundcloud.com/alleycatstreet/acs2014-01-23d2t03midnightgetaway I haven't seen anyone else cover this song ever, and Jerry never played it. Is this version from my band the only live version ever? :)
Love that crackle of a well worn, hence, clearly loved album! Man, do I miss my albums. Not one to ever even consider getting rid of my treasures. But, when family member was dying, 9 years ago now (YIkes) and having zero intention of living permanently on the East Coast, I left em w a friend in CA. They seemed safest there- at least a third of my cassettes landed here broken via media mail, and my records were too sacred and too heavy. BAD MOVE. Friend pulled a Casey Jones, ended up in jail, lost his apt and all my records were tossed. I don't think that kick to gut feeling will ever completely leave, (I actually know it won't) but, it's lessening in intensity w time. Really pleased you uploaded yours w the sound though. Feels like being at home again w who really can be considered some of my best friends, since I'd had most of them for nearly 30 yrs. Thanks man. ......Should stop there, but I just have to tell somebody out in the ethers who might even remember something similar, yet I know most wont care. Listening to this brought it back to life. I had a sicker in the back of my vw that said 'All Good Things In All Good Time.' Somehow it spelled that facing everyone outside/ behind the bus, but it was also written clear and in correct direction in my rearview mirror for me. hahaha I'm sure it's not rocket science, but I still haven't that one out. Miss peoples handmade stickers from the lot too. So blessed to have such beautiful memories cuzza this guy, and obviously the rest of the band and our great big travelling circus. Wish I could still make a heart sign on my computer. There should be a heart at the end of this! and a winkey face. lol
I remember watching Jerry and John Khan come out on stage after Blues Traveler just Rock the House Of The Warfield I was a little concerned because they both looked very very loaded but the show was epic neither of them were wearing shoes just that socks and I don't think Connie opened his eyes once but they burnt the house down that's for sure
I once saw JGB at the Keystone Palo Alto, saw Garcia hold a barre A chord for 15 straight minutes, which was bizarre, stoned or not...at intermission in the parking lot I ran into Sleazy Richard, an old college acquaintance and he said that he had given Garcia a fistful of mushrooms...it was strange because it was odd for a guy like Garcia to accept unknown drugs from unknown people......but yeah, lots of smack as well
Found this album, because the girl on the cover, Amy, lives here in Louisville and dated Garcia. She takes art classes from my wife and she recently lost her current husband. This is a pretty obscure album, I grew up in the 70's and listened to a lot of dead and I don't recall it.
and it's not that obscure. I really can't imagine anyone who "listened to a lot of dead" not knowing about this Jerry solo album, but ok. Bertha is about as deep as this guy got lol.

You mean you grew up in the generation that has such technology you have windows into any generation within the past century? That you even have a longing for this stuff shows how clear those windows are. If you were born in 1955, you think you'd know about Garcia pre1986?
Great point, but, I'd like to experience those decades first hand instead of through mediums like videos/photos (which I am still grateful for). My dad was born in '54 and he knew about Jerry pre1986 so.. maybe?! Cheers.
Blase, it was a pretty good time, generally speaking. But, as stated in my predecessor's comment, there was Vietnam. Pop culture was pretty awesome. Much of the best music and film work was being, or had been, done. As far as technology, the internet and communications technology, well, that's all great; there are benefits, but all that isn't as great as some portray it compared to before. There is both benefit and detriment. More people have more convenient access to what required more work and more social exposure previously. But, instead of that access being tempered with an education characterized by depth and wisdom, it's often part of a personal bundle more essentially informed by pop culture and simplistic reaction. Other than that broadened access, as well as the simplified and expedient communications, there's not much more in the way of information for the common man (person). Its just more convenient for everyone to access it from their bedroom. We had television, schools, newspapers, magazines, and telephones. T'was not the dark ages. With respect to the current era, our advances are for the most part overrated and over-promoted. For me, being a teen in the mid seventies was pretty great, and in the late 60s was when I really began exploring and collecting great music, album rock, and seeing some great films. By the seventies, more music, and concerts; and, great bands like the Dead, Garcia, and most everybody, were still around. It was a privelege to be a young person in the US then.

Once had a friend named San Fernando Valerie, miss her.
Midnight Getaway is a masterpiece
I have a vinyl of this somewhere =] Very 70's vibe/feel to this album, but the album artwork is among the best. Timeless classic.
What a masterpiece.
Midnight Getaway. Holy moly. Heavy. The cats that were sleeping under the stars.
Happy birthday Jerry !

Without Love I have Nothing! at all.
Jerry had more talent in his missing finger than most have in ten.
underrated comment!!!
He even auctioned it off with Al Franken once ^8-)
