Thanks for the video. I just wanted to add that SLI support in Watch Dogs 2 is very far from perfect. GPUs usage with SLi enabled is disproportional (much more than 1/2 of the single card usage), the game is a little bit choppy and sometimes also even laggy. I play on dual RTX 2080 Ti, PCI-e 16x+16x (Cascade Lake-X platform)
Nice watercooled setup. The GPU temps are spot on. 40c under load. I am trying to decide if picking up a second 2080ti for some sli would be worth it just for the fun of doing it. This video is helpful - thanks. What it says is, I need a 4k monitor or forget it.
weird I sold my 2nd 2080TI because in fallen order it was supposed to support it but it didnt give me a single fps gain. ended up being more time spent on trying to get it to work then enjoying games

What you should be taking from this, for those looking for it, is that if you're only running 1080p monitors, you only need 1 card but if you go 1440p or higher, having 2 or even 3 graphic cards will keep your frames respectably higher and keeps them there because as soon as something intensive pops up, a single card will dip for that moment but those are usually he best moments so you want those to look the best.
Nice video, how was this tested in games that are not compatible with SLI, did you change something in the configs or didnt you change anything at all.
It's always more stable, and far less buggy to have one powerful GPU, rather than 2. This has been a hard rule in gaming ever since sli and crossfire were conceived. And pulling an extra 277 watts through your psu for a few frames just isn't worth the heat or the expense when every game shown here was more than playable, even gorgeous, with one gpu.
I am dissapointed with Nvidia and Intel, or perhaps game developers. OR WHY NOT ALL OF THEM? Now days you pay 2k$ in graphic cards (3.500$ PC) and 70$ in a game and still you only get 90 fps 8:35 WTF? And wtfk RDR2? Seriously 70 fps with 2 SLI 2080Ti? You are unoptimizing the game on purpose....
Because game engines and graphics are pushing modern cards (most expensive cards to the max. You're viewing this as a negative thing because you aren't seeing the long term bigger picture. Yeah it sucks that you struggle to get 90 fps, but it means that cards and games will continue to progress rapidly. The only person you can truly blame somewhat is game developers not making sure their games are fully optimized. You also have to remember that many games are console ports to PC. Hope you enjoyed my novel.
@@mercanyinriechert6732 yeah 4k @ 70 FPS in RDR2 is great in comparison to 40-60 FPS on 1440p with a GTX 1080 Ti @ 2.000 MHz and i9 9900 KS @ 5.3 GHz.......

Thanks for this video... I planned SLI in order to nail max fps, but now it seems that SLI doesn't pump so much fps as someone could think, gain is 35-45% more, not worthy IMHO
The sli most of the time of what i saw tries to give stable fps rather than giving a boost like 100 to 300fps and also depends on your monitors refresh rate. You cant expect 300fps on a 144hz monitor lol
SLi ain't worth it now It was good before for older games, you can't enjoy Red Dead redemption 2 60fps+ unless the game running 150fps at 4k max settings because a lot of fps drops in first mission Snow area with heavy storm and fog
What? I thought 2 of these would give insane results, like 4k at 144fps, but NOPE. Guess you will need 2 (maybe 3) RTX 3080Ti to get CONSTANT 144fps at 4k. Bruh.
Keep in mind he's using every bell and whistle in the graphics settings, most of which are wildly impractical and noone ever uses them. (16x MSAA for example) Normally you would easily hit 144fps with two of these, hell you can usually get 120+ with a single 2080ti at more practical settings. This was simply done to show how much more power you get with 2 SLI'd. However SLI is completely impractical for games and a waste of money since 70-80% of all PC games don't support it at all, just buy the single best GPU.
Sorry everyone my mother language is not English and I for sure used the joke badly, I would appreciate an example of a correct use of the joke in this particular topic?

I mean this shows that if I buy, lets say a 300 dollar card, get more money later, and drop another 300 dollar card in, I could at least see my frames go up as long as I dont chose the high settings to hard. Though I was able to run tomb raider and the bench mark said I got highs as high a 80 with my radeon 5600, and that was maxed settings, so umm I could only imagine what two of them could do. I mean at this point your sorta flexing, and what is a better flex? Also the extra frames are nice, especially at the settings he is burning through.
Even a single RTX2080Ti you need 4k res to see it's true potential. Even 1440p you will see cpu bottleneck with RTX2080Ti. And that already paired with top of the line CPU with overclocks to boot.
@Hλwk block I kinda wish I would've gone with 16gb of ram instead and put the money toward a 5700 instead honestly but I'm super happy with it for the moment :)
watch the frametimes... stable 100 fps is much more enjoyable than average 130 with frametimes up to 30 ms and lows of 40 fps instead of 60 with single card. This is barely the same experience i had with my SLI setup, luckily i got already rid of this multi GPU bullsh*t, a strong single card will always win against slower cards in SLI, and the frametimes even show that a single GPU can also be better than a SLI config of the same GPU. every multi-GPU solution was pretty "useless" for gamers since ever, except the time as PC games demanded way more graphics power as PCs delivered, around 2004-2007. Now there are strong enough single GPUs aviable, at least its ok in my opinion, but i hope for a huge jump with next gen and HDMI 2.1 Graphics Cards
Kokainarienv0gel wait what, are we even watching the same video? I didn’t see a single time where a single card had better frame times in these benchmarks......

What you all think about this idea ?
The last generation I did SLI on was the 980TIx2. I found out that GOOD SLI scaling is game dependent. WatchDogs in this very video shows barely an increase. While SLI will net you better performance At higher resolutions it really isn’t worth it for price to performance. However if you have the money to spare by all means.
3:35 omg this is stressful. those dual or 2 GPU on the right makes a lag right there. how is this possible when things doesn't go the way as we expected?
late to game but thanks for video. NVlink long ago said its for higher resolutions and the gains aren't good cost vs performance but its not 0. If not going pro, don't spend so much just to play at 1080p
Fragmentation is still an issue in PC gaming and not enough is being done to solve this. Could you imagine the true gains you would get for such extreme high end PC hardware specs (and money) if a process and agreement was made for a minimum set standard of tier levels for PC gaming on the development and software support end to really eliminate the drawbacks of fragmentation in PC gaming? Instead of game developers having to use up so much time and resources targeting the lowest common denominator (which is not necessarily always mid range PCs), there was an industry standard development tool or "mode" that allowed you to design a game for a set standard of low, mid and high end with which the game will perform at a guaranteed minimum of 60FPS first and graphical details second which just simply "cuts back" graphics and what is left the PC gamer end user can choose. Intel, AMD, Nvidia, OEMs etc... would also have to agree to the three levels of minimum standards by providing development software for their hardware. The consumer will be better informed that their PC will perform at this minimum set 60fps standard, if they are made aware that this is the hardware range you will need to get.

So is SLI fixed and a good move finally? Or does micro stuttering and all the other issues from 4 years ago still exist? Cuz id really like to finally go SLI but all the issues put me off.
There are two major factors to consider. First one is strictly hardware: building SLI on HEDT with x16/x16 config and using second GPU for actually graphics and high res - good, using second card to whack the framerate on mainstream platform/low res - disaster. And the second one is that you really need to have at least a rough idea of what games you are going to play, because just getting a second card and hoping for the best is probably not going to work. There are a lot of games with good SLI support, both new and older, but you just have to have at least some kind of a plan.
Those issues still exist. The problem came with the tech itself so there is no way to completely eliminate them. They try to minimize them with hardware frame pacing but even when they work micro stutters still happening in some games. The golden age of multigpu have long gone.
@@arenzricodexd4409 Modern GPUs hide latency by having deep pipelines, so things like synchronisation with a CPU or another card is expensive. Another issue is balancing, it's possible to split a game frame in half and give each half to both GPUs, but what happens if one of the halves contains most of the hard-to-draw geometry ? The faster card has to wait for the slower card to finish before completing the frame so there are bottlenecks(stutters) added through that which wouldn't exist on a single card.

What it says is, I need a 4k monitor or forget it.
as you can see, the Frostbite engine has a fps cap of 200. that's interesting.
weird I sold my 2nd 2080TI because in fallen order it was supposed to support it but it didnt give me a single fps gain. ended up being more time spent on trying to get it to work then enjoying games
Possible cpu bottleneck? Then again if you could afford 2x 2080tis you probably already had a decent cpu lol
@@RoliPoliOli00 nah, had a 9980xe for the Xtra pci lanes so there was no micro studders the 9900k micro studdered like crazy since it was only getting 8 lanes per card. But there was only a few games where it worked properly...but when it did it gave double the GPS and was truly awesome...with nvlink sli should come back but it probably wont

The sli most of the time of what i saw tries to give stable fps rather than giving a boost like 100 to 300fps and also depends on your monitors refresh rate. You cant expect 300fps on a 144hz monitor lol

3 way SLI usually gives worse fps than 2 way. Also in most modern titles sli refuses to work at all. The ones in the video are some of the exceptions.
i just realized SLI scales great when you compare gpus in sli vs similar cuda core and vram specs and not against the card you are pairing together

How do you get so low GPU temps? My 2080 super is burning after a few minutes.

@@krzych3114 cool thanks. I'll remain single card for now
Those issues still exist.
