The Song of Hammerdeep
The world was made with mighty hands,
A blessing rests upon our lands,
The home we have wrought, a sacred keep,
The glorious halls of Hammerdeep
The craftsman shapes eternal art,
The world seeks out the merchant’s cart,
At banquet hall where blood is strong.
The Dwarven mines ring out in song,
Where jewels drive the dark away,
And night becomes as bright as day,
A honest end from an honest start,
For wealth is found inside the heart.
Where truth is crowned as king of all,
and guile is a bitter gall,
here sweat must flow before the ale,
And apron donned before the mail.
But when a Dwarf is sent to war,
He pines for home, his heart is sore,
Though never was such bravery,
Nor strength of hand or weaponry,
A Dwarven fire is raging heat,
His foe is fallen at his feet,
with painful cries, the spirit stalls
Of evil, when the hammer falls.
The world bemoans the lifeless hands,
The Dwarves who died to keep their lands,
The valiant souls of Hammerdeep

I sing this, Song of Durin, Misty Mountains, and King Beneath The Mountain to my 10 month old son every night before bed and have for the past 6 months. He already has a better beard than me.

I've been listening to this song every day in the hopes of mine becoming majestic.
To those who have listened carefully, 'Hammerdeep' ties into the previous original song, 'Dragonshore' where there was a line 'Come ye dwarves of hammerdeep'. Aside from that, it has a distinctly Tolkienish verse and a sorrowful, resonant timbre, as Tolkien had written in the Ainulindalë of the Silmarillion that the world was formed by a 'song of sorrow from which its beauty chiefly came'.
As a conclusion, these people have managed to subcreate from Tolkien's work using only song, and craft a full world around it. In Tolkienverse, that would mean they are Ainur, aka Gods.
"It also ties into "When the Hammer Falls." I honestly think it is all the same dwarfhold.

It also ties to the first original song When the Hammer Falls. Notice the lyrics "Of evil, when the hammer falls." I love it when artists mention their past songs its cool.
Yes, I noticed 'Of evil, when the Hammer falls'. I simply don't like overly wordy comments. I'd say something about which of the seven tribes of Dwarves these could be (Longbeards, Broadbeams, Firebeards, Ironfists, Stonefoots, Blacklocks and Stiffbeards) if it wasn't clear they were of an original subcreation (as there is no dragon-infested island in Arda; they live in the Withered Heath).
The power to Create comes from Imagination. Imagination is also the source that Viking Berserkers drew their strength from.

In the deep they worked with hammer and chisel, making things glorious to see for anyone lucky enough to come to their ancient halls.
They dug ever deeper down within the earth and some called them greedy and single-minded, but in battle none was a more trustworthy brother in arms to have at your side,
As one elf learned in days long since past.
I can think of more than one elf... Legolas, Drizzt Do'Urden... at least these two named dwarves amongst their brothers

One of the reasons this is such a good song is because of the way the themes of the song and in the general Hammerdeep world are reflected in the way the vary song is composed. There are about four or five places were the song appears to be ended, but every time(other than the last time) the song keeps going. This mirrors the way the dwarves, despite dragons burning their land or orcs attack or they have to cross a sea, that keep going. They never give up, they fight to the last. Even when all hope seems to be lost and the song seems to be over, the dwarves and the song will continue and be victorious. It is not clear whether or not this was intentional, but this was extremely well done.
They are as enduring as the mountains.

the dwarves in my fantasy world drove the dragons from the furnaces of the world (where the first of the dwarves got their magical forging prowess and most of the mythic materials that are coveted in the world) and so the dragons took to the skies and the seas thereafter. sound cool?

You guys just ABSOLUTELY NAILED that transition between "The home we've wrought, a sacred keep" and "The glorious halls of Hammerdeep!"
This sounds like the setting-establishing opening number to a musical about a young hot-headed dwarf who comes from a family of proud dwarven smiths. They're teaching him the trade, but he's bored of making jewelry and flatware: he wants to learn how to craft swords and axes and chainmail. He's heard the tales of his ancestors who fought dragons and orcs, and longs to see battle himself one day, resenting the fact that he was born during a time of great peace.
The story would be about him maturing and learning that war isn't glorious at all. That his ancestors fought not for the thrill of battle or to gain fame and riches, but to ensure the peaceful existence that their land and people are enjoying right now, and they suffered great losses along the way. And he would learn the strength of character and good qualities that his family have been trying to teach him-- discipline, honesty, camaraderie, the appreciation of simple beauty-- so that if/when the time does come for him to fight, he'll be doing it for the right reasons.

@@Acq275 nah, the dragons striked because they were wealthy and great.. I think Dragonhore should be the finale, where the purge the world of seven deadly evils.
Based on the end of this song, I'd say it comes before "Dragonshore". "When the Hammer Falls" is about the creation of Hammerdeep, "Song of Hammerdeep" is about that civilization at its height, and then its sudden fall when the Dragons attacked, and then "Dragonshore" is about the survivors banding together to take their vengeance on the Dragons. At least, that's how I interpret it.
I love how you guys are building such wicked Dwarf lore for your legend through these songs. This was a great addition and I cannot wait to see what mythic Dwarven awesomeness we get from you next!

I am pretty sure that the dwarfs that home was destroyed were calling to the dwarves of hammerdeep for help because the line is "come ye dwarves of hammerdeep our home was burned by dragon fire".

I think it is mentionned that they rebuilt it afterward.
As best I can tell it wasn't destroyed, but it was attacked and possibly sacked. The lyrics suggest that the dwarves drove the dragons off before the keep was destroyed and subsequently hunted the dragons involved down.
