    Happy Birthday to the Pink Ninja! And Lars, you did not get 2 lemons - I had the same jacket and it fell apart in under 1 year from normal use. Now, my normal may not be normal for everyone as I'm out in the forest every day, but I certainly would not recommend this jacket either sadly.

    Happy birthday Pink Ninja from Fred in Canada. Pockets are good and useful, I like pockets as well but they are only good if we close them up so as not too loose anything from them. Velcro, buttons , zippers, I guess is next question as to what is best, I find velcro gets dirty and threads will break away. Yes I like good jackets as well and have paid some good money for much of the CDN Military stuff. It is important for it to take a beating. Thanks for the video Lars.....weekend almost is here......Cheers Fred

    I don't think you are being unfair at all. I've got a couple of non branded cheap domestic jackets that were not advertised in any way or form to be "survival" or "military use" and despite using them in harsh-ish conditions (cold and on the floor while working on stuff) stuffed to the brim with tools, niknaks etc have faired much better than what you have shown. Okay mine have failed in places but not in the important areas, and the zips toggles and buttons are all firmly affixed. I would summarise this vid by saying they are not value for money and the "spec" is just a ploy.
    Those who disagree probably haven't properly used the jackets you showed, just worn them in cold weather while going shopping or something.
    Thanks for the vids and the frequency Lars, much appreciated. Also Happy Birthday to the Pink Ninja!

    I've a Tacgear vest in tropatarn, it seams well made, but I haven't used it enough to say it's bad or good,I've been wanting this smock, but I will swerve it now as unless I find a good used one,,,, I modified most of my smocks to suit my needs by adding extra pockets off old smocks and dummy loops,, you should get a needle and thread and make repairs to your smocks as the features look good and useful on them, just a bit of bad seaming in the factory, for the price of them they should be perfect quality,, all the best for Christmas and the new year

    Tacgear is an airsoft brand i think :D if you want a real military smock you could get a Leo Köhler KSK smock wich is kinda simular to the Tacgear smock (not in quality :P) They deliver them to German special forces so they are the real deal. I have one in Flecktarn, very happy with it. The fabric changes slightly depending on wich camo you choose becaus they use the official licensed camos. It is avilible in Flecktarn, Flecktarn tropic, Multicam, multicam tropic, Atacs FG, Pencott Greenzone, Pencott badlands,black, olive and maybe even more i can't think of.

      Roope.T. Yes, the british ones are really good. I have two of these and can highly recommend it. And they are cheaper than Leo Köhler ( I like LK too) . I ve paid aprox 40 Euro for the DPM and aprox 50 Euro for the MTP. A good adress is www.asmc.de

    • @finest9176
      @finest9176 6 лет назад

      The British smocks are nice but not really comparable to LK smocks. The Brit smock is more like a parka-jacket then a smock in my opinion, the LK smock has a lot more pockets and they are bigger too. Im not saying the british smock is bad or inferior tho.

    100€? You got them cheap, that's for sure. They go for 199€ nowadays. I own a Smock from Leo Köhler, it's a bit cheaper, even in A-Tacs or Multicam pattern, but it's manufactured to the standards of the German Army. And I guess it has reason Köhler is still a official supplier of the Army for some decades now ;) And of course Happy Birthday to the Pink Ninja!
    Edit: Just saw someone else already brought up the Köhler smocks :D

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 лет назад +2

      I paid more than 100 EUR for it. I said 100 or 200 EUR because ASMC have two models of this jacket. A "Para" model for 99 EUR and the "Commando 2" for 199 EUR. Köhler makes good quality items for sure.

    Ive always assumed , and its also my experience that commercially produced stuff would be superior to army stuff. i used to feel sorry for soldiers having to put up with some of the rubbish they were issued with. I do have some army surplus but are quite picky about what I buy . Army surplus is cheap and thats why i usually buy it. Army surplus Items that i rate Are the LK35 swedish army pack, the russian veshmeshok pack, the german army heavy rubberised poncho and the swedish army wool Jerseys.
    I also had a german army day pack for years that was virtually bullet proof.

    Happy Birthday Pink Ninja Troll!!! Maybe I missed it, how old is she now? Growing fast! So is that puppy!
    It sure seems like things today have lost their quality over all. Why is it Army surplus from just about any country in the world, made 1944 or so, is better than anything you can buy brand new today? What happened? Lack of pride in a good product, or do they want it to wear out so you have to buy another one? I dunno.......

    What you have is one of the problems that occurs with non-milspec gear (including most civilian stuff), it's made to a price point most likely decided by marketing wonks. To stay within the price point especially if the gear is being made up by a contractor, there will be corners cut.
    Not enough hem on seams, not back stitching enough at the end of a run etc. In theory if you buy anything that has recognised Quality Assurance this kind of thing should not happen, though sometimes it does, milspec is still governed by a price point but usually it is based on a higher standard as I am sure you know.

    Great review!
    Never owned a smock or pants from tac gear as far as i remember but they tend to have a pretty bad reputation in terms of quality, pricing and color printing(,,flecktarn“ print) atleast here in germany. Many years ago when tac gear was a pretty new brand they cost around 100€ for the multi pocket smock version and were back then as far as i remember not produced in china or india. Köhler or Scharrer are great brands for smocks or more correctly Einsatzkampfjacken and clothes in general. Have you tried out a windproof british or nz dpm smock, Lars?
    Oh, and happy birthday to the pink ninja of course :)
