A useful take on 2 Thessalonians 2, if one is able to sift out Rev. Piper's mannerisms and opinions and stay on track with respect to his exegesis of the text.
Paul was not meant to blame others because of leaving employment, but he was meant to tell them that having had a right to get some from his services, he had chosen not to because he wanted to make his mission blameless.

You Christian leaders are not in agreement with the Kingdom of God. Under the Law of Christ, the tithes from the people and profits that you made from selling His words are not for your personal use and to lift yourselves above everyone. They are supposed to go to the poor and needy and the treasury of the House of God. Do you know when the people disagree with their Creator will be delivered to destruction and Hell?

The House of God is Mount Zion, the Heavenly Jerusalem. What is Mount Zion? It is the city of the great King and the Kingdom of God. It is a holy place where the children of God can learn holy life. Above all, it is a holy mountain where the Lord Jesus will reign on His people for an everlasting time.
Isaiah 24:23
Then the moon will be disgraced and the sun ashamed; For the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem and before His elders, gloriously.
Hebrews 12:22
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels.
Mount Zion was once a part of the country Israel. After the Jews rejected Lord Jesus as their Messiah, Mount Zion was taken from them and gave it to nation that will give the fruits to it.
Matthew 21
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.
Lord Jesus sent me His angel to guide His people where Mount Zion will be. It is in the far east Asia, Negros Island, Philippines. The Lord Jesus gave signs and wonders about this place. He formed this island as the shape of a man’s foot, because it is the place of His feet where He will stand at His coming.
Isaiah 60:13
The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the cypress, the pine, and the box tree together, to beautify the place of My sanctuary; And I will make the place of My feet glorious.
Matthew 24:27
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
At this moment, Mount Zion is desolate and only foxes live in it. The Lord Jesus wants this holy mountain rebuild with a temple in it. So that He can come and fulfill His promises to His people which is eternal life without death, peace and prosperity for eternity time.

If you Christian leaders want to make it to the Kingdom of God, you need to give up all that money to the poor and needy and for the rebuilding of the city of Mount Zion, so that the Lord Jesus will forgive you for your great transgressions towards His Law and for taking the money from His treasury.

Lovers of unrighteousness... Can anyone say watching TV? The major part of TV and movies is portrayals of unrighteousness and "Christians" who would never commit adultery, or murder someone, of have sex with the same sex, or sex out of wedlock, or greed, or lies, etc take pleasure in actors portraying these types of unrighteous acts.

The problem with the lost is that they have no emotional response to the gospel or the Bible? This is interesting but is it true? An emotional response is necessary for truth to be truth? Almost every time the gospel was ever presented to me a disclaimer was given for the necessity of acquiring some emotional response to the Bible or the gospel message presented by the pastor or the tract. On the contrary fact faith and feeling were often presented as a train and feeling was presented as the optional caboose not the driver of the train. If no one ever had a single feeling about Jesus Christ or the gospel or the Bible believing the fact of the gospel was sufficient for eternal salvation at the very point of faith at which point imputed eternal righteousness would take over regardless of ones passion for truth or ones trends toward error. As far as that gospel train was presented the faith only had to drive you to the fact and then the free gift was secured. Salvation was never presented as a lifetime achievement award nor was it to be denied the fact that God was true to impute eternal life to any one who believed that message without either revoking it due to later error or annulling it due to lack of evidence of salvation. The gospel was presented as the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT OF ONLY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. It was to be received in its entirety upon believing it without any mention that one had to keep on believing it or keep it in some relatively pure form. As far as delusion is concerned I am no stranger to delusion having spent time in mental wards because of that very problem. What makes one deluded person a prisoner of a mental ward and another a prominent or famous person? Wealth & power & the influence of secret societies I suppose. I am prone to delusion, however, not as much as anyone who believes that 9-11-2001 was what the news media told you it was or the assassination of JFK was the work of one lone gunman with a weapon that could not hit a moving target & fire three shots in 5 seconds any more tossing inert minerals in a pool of water with an atmosphere of methane can produce a living organism with lightning and volcanic vents. Any one who would say that the attack on the USS liberty was a simple mistake or that the Oklahoma bombing was the work of a couple disgruntled militia or that their nitrate bomb was the only explosive that did the damage to the federal building.. That concrete and steel buildings turn to dust and fall straight down when hit with an airplane or that a burning diesel fuel brings down a building into its own footprint is beyond the common sense that any lumberjack. I mean if a lumberjack cut into a tree and it disintegrated from top to bottom that would seem a bit strange even if it was cut partway through and a fire was set on the cut. The power of the news media to deceive people is increasing from moment to moment. Indeed legislation has been passed to allow the news media to create an event as one might create a piece of fiction and present it to the public as fact to influence public opinion on political issues. Some mass shootings & bombings are suspect of being sold to the public as crisis actors on a stage who have stared in many crisis events as real news events and in fact elements of the events are often real & even deadly while the whole event was staged. If a pastor/teacher will not tell you the straight talk about temporal truths why listen to them about eternal truths? NO If someone loves truth they will love truth on every level not just the theological level alone. If there is a wolf out there they should cry wolf and if there is a pack of them they should tell us of the danger & even name names like a good watchman. If they see something that does not add up by the media they should be suspect and warn their followers that something is not right. However what if some miracles are real? Jesus never said that the performing of miracles in His name was salvific did He? However the reception of the benefits of a miracle if it is indeed a miracle is not saving or damning is it? Who even said that every one who received the benefits of miracles wrought by the hand of Jesus was saved? Luke 17:12-19 The unregenerate miracle worker may falsely believe (be deluded into thinking) s/he is earning the salvation while the receiver of the miracle may believe it is from the hand of the One Who earned it for them. Matt 7:21-23 What makes a lying wonder a lie or a true wonder a true sign? is someone going to receive something FROM GOD that is going to bless them in the short run yet damn them in the long run? Matt 7:7-11 It also appears a bit strange that when my pastor explained doctrine to me he claimed that the early church was an immature church and that we today have the complete canon of scripture therefore had no advantage over the early church yet here apparently some revelation was given the Thessalonians that was canonical yet not in our knowledge base? It is all left to conjecture & interpretation. This is super strange. I can perhaps see John an apostle given some revelation about the 7 thunders that none of us have but THE WHOLE EARLY CHURCH without any record? I thought they wanted to write down every relevant word they knew for the sake of future generations not just some. I was also told that the gift of tongues interpretation prophesy ONLY revealed PARTS of the whole canon we now possess in its completeness. That some generation had a piece of information we now lack today for our own salvation is CRIMINAL. It is being thoughtless of future generations. That they were not careful to preserve every relevant word in hideous. The assertion that the early church circulated some kind of mystery we lack is akin to conspiratorial & it becomes somehow suspicious.

In some translations it is “rebellion” and it means literally a falling away, abandonment (of the faith). Strong’s G0646.
That is what the tribulation will do-cause people to fall away, the lukewarm, the false professors, the liars and cowards who claim His name but are far from them in their hearts.

Mat_24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat_26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

These next verses are concerning the second coming, the rapture is not the second coming as Jesus does not set foot on the Earth at the rapture.
Zac 14:1-9 (6-8) Jude 1:14-15 Rev 19:11-21 in Zac verses 6-8 are a description of what can be seen, and no mention of clouds.
The rapture and the second coming can be differentiated by one thing clouds, in the rapture many verses speak of Jesus coming in the clouds in the second coming there is no mention of clouds even though Zac gives some detail on that day.
This just goes to show how denominational indoctrination changes what God's Word plainly says into what man says that God's Word says.
My denomination where I assemble myself together, is pre-trib and they have a rude awakening coming,
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Ti 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
2Ti 2:17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
2Ti 2:18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
False doctrine overthrows faith, many pre-tribbers are gonna be blindsided by being in the tribulation when their denomination swore up and down they would not be here for any of that, and the worst part is that they claim its a secret rapture, how many pre-tribbers are gonna be lead by satan and his imps to believe they missed the secret rapture and have no hope and will take the mark trusting their second false doctrine of osas will allow them to take the mark and still not lose their salvation.

That Un Biblical and Un Scriptural Pre Tribulation Coming of Christ Fable is a Deep Concern and is tickling many ears BUT it is NOT what Jesus Taught and it is Certainly NOT what Paul taught!
There is NOT ONE VERSE and NOT ONE Person in Scripture that ever Taught or Ever Declared a Pre Tribulation Coming of Jesus except for the False Prophets Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24!
It matters 100% what we believe about the Second Coming when the Harpazo takes place!
Here are some reasons!
1/ We are supposed to use Scripture for Correct Doctrine so what we believe about the Harpazo MUST be what the Word of God says about the Harpazo and NOTHING else!
2/ Because we are to have Doctrine based on Scripture we MUST NOT base that Doctrine on anything else, the Harpazo MUST be based on Scripture!
3/ The True Doctrine of the Harpazo must NEVER be based on words of men or on books of men or on spirits of men, it must be based on Scripture!
4/ Because we are commanded to walk in TRUTH we must also TALK TRUTH and therefore our Doctrines that we TEACH must be TRUTH and must be based on Scripture!
5/ There can ONLY be ONE CORRECT Doctrine that is Truth regarding the Harpazo and that Doctrine is ONLY that which is TAUGHT by man in Scripture!
6/ We are responsible for those around us by what we Teach and how they maybe deceived by what we say!
With all of the Above in Mind let me say the Following that is WRITTEN in Scripture!
The TRUTH!
In 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 Paul clearly DECLARES and CLARIFIES a Clear Sequence and Distinction of Events including the Harpazo!
1/ The Parousia/COMING of Jesus
2/ The Shout of Jesus
3/ The Trumpet of God
4/ The RESURRECTION
5/ THEN the Harpazo
This MUST be the Sequence and the Distinction and Clarification we MUST TEACH!
It is TRUE, the COMING/Parousia of Jesus and the RESURRECTION must take place BEFORE we will be Harpazo!
No mention of the Tribulation!
Just the COMING/Parousia of Jesus and then the RESURRECTION and then the Harpazo!
Paul then speaks MORE TRUTH in 2 Thessalonians 2!
Paul again gives a Clear Sequence and Distinction and Clarification of Events.
1/ The Apostasy
2/ The Revealing of the Son of Perdition
3/ The COMING /PAROUSIA of Jesus
4/ Jesus GATHERS us all together to Himself
5/ Jesus destroys that Son of Perdition!
That is what we are to TEACH and DECLARE and BELIEVE!
When you PLACE all of these TRUTHS TOGETHER you see this CLEAR SEQUENCE!

That is when the Resurrection and Harpazo takes place on that Day when Satan is Bound and the Beast is destroyed! Blessed and Holy we will all be when we Partake in the First Resurrection at Christs COMING when Satan is Bound!

The apostacy or falling away....is departing from the true faith. Which we can see has ramped up recently...

Once we believe the gospel apart from works we are given eternal life. Romans 4:5-8. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. The GIFT of God is eternal life. Not a reward for good behavior.

First Corinthians 15:51-53 First Thessalonians 4:13-18. Notice. Jesus does not come back to the earth for the rapture of the church. We go to meet Him in the clouds. He comes back to the earth at the end of the 7 year tribulation, and we come with Him. We are saved by grace apart from works for the free gift of eternal life. Ephesians 2:8-9. We will not go through the time of Jacobs trouble. That is when the 144,000 Jews will be saved. Revelation 7. And so great a number of gentiles that no man can number.
But they will have to keep from taking the mark of the beast to be saved. Revelation 14:9-12.

He did not stand with an unrepentant sinner. I agree 100 percent. But of course I felt that way before John Piper said it. I wouldn't worry that it swayed too many Trump supporters, nor should the Pastor be criticized for expressing an opinion and personal choice that do not run afoul of the Gospel. It's up to the listener whether they decide that they agree or not. You seem very angry. God and good Gospel teaching are far more important than the things of this world, including politics.
