- I had the unique opportunity to check out all the upcoming Matchbox 2025 models that the MBX Team was previewing at the Gathering - sight unseen.
So you get my real time reactions to these models, and of course, some nice clear close-ups. This is Part 1 of 3. Enjoy!
8:00 The Prius is a Cupra Tavascan! It is an Spanish car but is indeed electric.

No, It's a Cupra, clearly visible on the front with the two materials and the logo on the back. It was missing in the slides they were showing
Cupra, it is a performance division of the Seat, a Spanish car brand also

8:35 That Masserati MC12 is freaking awesome! That in the classic white-blue and headlight/backlight prints will be one of my favourite castings EVER.
I have the HW version (carded) in a box filed away with all my HW Ferraris (carded). I’m definitely going to look for the MBX MC-12! Great model!
Yeah, hope to see more Maserati in both Matchbox and Hot Wheels, they need to return tbh, and maybe Ferrari if Ferrari willing for them to do castings on their castings tbh

As a BMW fanatic, I’m happy to see some good BMW representation (the 318ti being my favorite)
The Package Is Such A BIG Upgrade To The Old Weird All Orange Packaging. That Packaging Was So Boring And Making Me Not Want to Buy Models. I Will But So Many New Ones Because Of The Package Update , Cause it gives such a good vibe and mood 😇

Great lineup for 2025! Still searching for many of the 2024 releases, including mainlines, moving parts, and premiums.
I only bother with mainlines, everything else is virtually unobtainable here in the UK. I still haven't seen anything here newer than 2024 mix 3!

Yup that blue Chevy is a 58 Impala, the first year of Impala, it has 6 taillights instead of 4 and the chrome piece above the rear window
Matchbox castings are looking good now and the packaging looks a lot better now, hope to see whats coming in 2025 from both Matchbox and Hot Wheels tbh
2025 is already promising. I’ll be scooping up a few of the integras and bmws

21:56 '58 Chevy, Biscayne, Impala or Delray, - Rear panel 3 lamps each side was the Impala, 2 lamps/ side were the others.
If any chrome is added, then it's no longer a Biscayne.

Majorette already has these and it will be hard to beat it. Majorette has opening hood and great details. I expect Matchbox to be more simple.
The car that you were looking at was an Alfa Romeo convertible for 1967.
Matchbox should come out with a Toyota minivan and an 80’s ford crown Vic wagon or a Chrysler New York for next year

Is it a coincidence that multiple companies releasing MC12 at around the same time. BBR just released a beautiful 1/64 MC12 and now Matchbox.

Awesome castings
The light blue prototype car with brown cladding is the Cupra Tavascán, an electric coupe SUV.
Cupra is a Spanish car brand owned by Volkswagen Group. Cupra is not yet available in the United States, but will be coming to the states before 2030.
These models are so cool. I can't wait to find these 👏😆. Matchbox is making some awesome casting 😉👍
7:26 That one that you called a Prius isn't a Prius, that's a CUPRA Tavascan. Based on the Volkwagen iD.4, Spanish-designed, Chinese-built. Probably one of the sharpest looking EVs out there...sadly not sold in the US...yet. There's plans to sell CUPRAs in the US, but there's no set year, just by the end of the decade.
I'd be willing to bet this is another way that the CUPRA brand is trying to get it's brand out to North America and other markets they're not sold in yet, similar to when they put some CUPRAs in Forza Horizon 5.
Heck...I don't even think that one was even in the presentation, IIRC.
9:00 The last Maserati that Mattel actually did was the Maserati Ghibli, in their 'larger than 1:64, but smaller than 1:43' Fast And Furious line that was very short lived.
10:35 Interesting thing about that RAV4, they listed it as a RAV4 GR, which the only one that lines up with that is the Euro-spec GR Sport trim level. Pretty neat to see Matchbox catering a Japanese brand vehicle to the European market for once. Can't wait to see the finished product.
13:20 It'll be pretty interesting if they manage to get the Explorer, Tavascan, and a new color iD.4 in the same case assortment, since they're all directly related to each other. Even if it's not this year, maybe next year.
More catering to the European market, which I think is great for a brand of European origin. The first Ford to use VW's MEB (Modularer E-Antriebs Baukasten, or in English, Modular Electric-drive Toolkit) platform, along with the recently unveiled Capri EV.
15:22 It's true, a lot of those silhouettes start to look alike, but I've gotta give Cadillac some serious credit for trying to be different with their EVs, the back end with the wraparound lights is quite unique, really looking forward to seeing that one on the pegs.
15:50 That's the Ariya that a husband-and-wife exploration team took, specifically modified, from the North Pole to the South Pole (over 17,000 miles), and were successful.
Cool the morgan I like. They need to bring back some proper wire wheels like the old lesney cars had. The elite bugatti needed them too. Also im really surprised they dont already have a 58 impala casting but I guess not.

I hope they do the “Prangler” test car Chrysler built to test the Prowler back in the 90s. It was half Wrangler and half Prowler...but cool as heck!!!
Interesting fact is the charger pursuit casting is the same as the hellcat. You can tell by the hood vents, the widebody and the little spoiler in the back. Difference is the hood is shut unlike the moving parts casting and it does have a pushbar and lightbar on the top.
Will have to snap up the '15 Mercedes E-Class Wagon, that's the next car I'm looking at getting IRL. Always love having a scale model of my real car, currently had to settle for a Majorette version of my '08 BMW E61.
Another note about Morgan. At the time they released Polaris slingshot casting this vehicle came to mind. The wheels of the time did not match the time frame of the vehicle. This new wheel will allow older cars to be done properly now.
Very nice 2025 models. Definitely looking forward to the Prius and the Chevy Chevelle wagon.
Of course Mattel would release a MC12 after I bought the first edition Hot Wheels one for stupid money.. :P Here's some advice for new collectors: Just wait!
Yeah, but sometimes waiting is not worth it because you never know what happens tomorrow and good to grab your favourite model and be happy with it.
You are right about the crow vic wagon
The proportions on the Integra aren't great, disappointing for Matchbox. The wheels are way too big and the exhaust is shown incorrectly as well, it's modeled similarly to a 2nd gen Integra or 4th gen Civic.
Land Cruiser 78, Maserati MC12, 2023 BMW M2, 1970 Citroen 2CV are the models i want the most. Lots of EV vehicles as expected. Thanks for the Sneak Peek.

I love the 2CV, it's really exciting and well overdue. I'll definitely buy one if I possibly can but it is spoilt by the empty front windows. the only way to get empty frames like that on a 2CV is to use a hammer, they should have just glazed them in

I hope Matchbox will release more classic Fiats, Alfas and Citroens in future. Only they and Majorette can bring these to us. I know, Welly and Norev exist but they much less accessible. I hope to see Citroen BX, CX, SM, Visa; Fiat Uno, Punto, Tipo, Multipla, Ritmo, Marea Weekend; new version of Alfa SZ and other classic Alfas. And much more! Maybe even Renault Avantime?

Finaly an integra with the right proportions, unlike the premium HW one that looks like an accord with the flat front.
The Integra type R has the 98-01 front end and not 97. Hopefully they change it for the final product.
Can't believe I didn't pick up on that. They could easily just call it a 98, but I wish they'd take the time to get those details right.
I can't wait for the Mercedes model to come out on matchbox I like them loads.
They need to fix that front fender on the integra. Would been perfect to have the headlights part of winshield.

3:08 The Mercedes CLA Wagon is already released in the 2024 Basic Range as #99 out of 100. On the New Card Art, it's #4 out of 125. Same exact color, same rims. Would this change, or this is a prototype?

Those unlicensed cars do look like realistic cars. I don’t always notice if they are unlicensed or not. If it was back in 2014 that was a different story. I did notice those cars in 2014 looking like terrible unlicensed cars.
Themes are totally unnecessary, and the new artwork looks great. With themes, it often felt like the artwork was an attempt to JAM the car into the particular scene of the theme, no matter how unlikely or contorted the result looked.

Matchbox is overtaking HW in the past couple years. Unfortunately matchbox aren’t stocked or restocked as much as HW. Still have a long list of castings I want from them.
