  • Hi Friends!
No buy year trend, is it worth it? Should you do it? I've been doing it for 6 months now and I wanted to update you guys on how the journey has been so far and what I've learned - it's definitely been rewarding so far to buy less and spend less money, however it does come with some challenges and unexpected lessons... hopefully I will offer some insight into whether or not you would want to do it!

Hey Mollie, this is my first no buy year as I'm working my way out of student debt. I keep getting surprised by all the things i already have. It feels so cool to be able to provide for myself. When I have a want/need, I first pause and think about what i already have. I actually go through my stuff. It's a more systematic approach. I love it and I never want to go back. It also helps me to keep my home organized. Lovely to see so many videos from like minded people. I wish you the best of luck for the upcoming months! Greetings, Paula

I think a no-buy year is great when you already have everything you need. We were very poor for years, and now that money is better we have a lot to catch up on, trying to replace worn clothes, shoes, and all manner of things, not to mention saving up to buy a second reliable car (no public transportation here, so cars are a must). Plus, those years we were poor were basically no-buy years, so I figure I'm all caught up on no-buying for the time being.

I'm sort of in the same boat. My BF and I just recently moved in together and I'm feeling a little bad about all the things i *want* for our new space. We spent six months without a couch because I kept putting off buying one. We have a great outdoor space and I'd love to get a grill and some outdoor seating but still haven't done it. I grew up in the necessary no buy years and am still learning how to allow myself these purchases without the guilt. over consumption is a serious problem and I'll always try to buy used when I can. But sometimes these trends feel a little alienating. I think Mollie did a good job of describing how to make it work on an individual level.

Yes no buy is a kind of detox that you need when you are overwhelmed…that is not the case for you so it’s totally fine❤️❤️

I think we are extremist .. either crazy shopping or no shopping at all..
    & Both are bad ..
Just buy enough & replace what you can't wear or use anymore..
The goal is not deprivation or embarrassment.. you are not doing any favor to yourself this way .
Just take care of yourself buy essential things keep the balance..
Ask your self if I don't buy this what are the consequences..
If the consequences are not that big don't buy ..
But if you are sacrificing your basic needs this is just an other form of harm ...

The first thing I’m going to do is to check what I have in my wardrobe. That’s really what I need for the beginning.
    Thanks 🙌🏼

I hadn't heard of the no buy year before you talked about it but it seems like such a great journey to be on! I was just wondering, do you allow yourself treats that are non material, like food or going to the cinema?

      @WildMollie  Месяц назад

Thank you for sharing! I do have treats like coffee and movies with friends, I rarely go in access with that so I didn’t make a strict rule about it. However everyone’s need with this challenge are different ☺️

Hello! Are you half Russian? I like the idea of no spend year, but sometimes we spend money only on grocery shopping and nessecary toiletries so it automatically we can call "no spend year".also I've decluttered almost all my clothes so now I need to buy it especially with 4 seasons weather

I grew up in the 80s, probably the first generation of massive consumption of cheap, foreign made goods. It’s really sad to see how much worse it’s gotten. The crap never breaks down. It will exist for thousands of years! We’re already running out of places to bury all this junk.
