Not necessarily folklore, she's still a religious figure. Basically, in Brazil there are two religions with african origins, the first is Candomblé brought by the african slaves, basically their original religion, and the second, newer one is Umbanda, which is what happened through religious syncretism between Candomblé, catholicism and the religions of our natives.
You're not far off though, the whole thing is very rich. The orixas can be represented in many different ways, many are represented as 'saints', originally as a way for the african slaves to 'sneakily' worship them while acting as if they're converted to catholicism in order to please their masters/not be punished for their faith.

Yemoja is "the metaphysical mother of ALL Orishas", one of her many titles. She is Oshun's & Olokun's mother, not their daughter or sister. In traditional Yoruba-land she is the leader of the river Orishas. In Latin-American religious traditions, she is the leader of river Orishas AND also the co-ruler of the seas/oceans with her "son" Olokun.

Terrible misconception there my friend, Olokun is not gender fluid, he’s a male deity People tend to mistake him as being gender fluid because he is sometimes called Aje-Olokun, but among we the knowledgeable Yorubas, we know Aje is different from Olokun. While I do think it’d be interesting for them to have the lore of each new god, I’m not entirely sure how they’d enhance the spotlights. I personally only watch these things to get an idea of their abilities and gameplay styles. It’s cool to learn about their history and lore sure, but from a gameplay perspective it’s really easy to ignore/forget about.

I hope more yoruban deities will come to Smite, like Shango (thunder and lightning deity), Aganju (fire deity), Ayao (air deity), or even Osoosi (forest and hunting deity).

She looks amazing but the effort put into these god reveals is just almost none like hirez made better god reveals when the game came out than these newer ones
The whole game was better when it first came out. I don't miss it a bit. I even spent hundreds of dollars on it. Made my non gamer friends laugh and talk about how dumb I was. Good times.
I really want more gods with that unique mana. If you ever do Huītzilōpōchtli a mana system were each kill he gets him mana would fit so well with the Aztecs sacrifice to him to keep him alive

Her third ability is so awesome!!! A really interesting design with a kind of new mechanic to the game (minus things like jing wei’s 1) I think that’s one of my favourite abilities in the whole game. She may actually have the most interesting and well designed kit in the game so far! You did brilliant on this I’m impressed 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

No one else has:
-Stun on towers
-Healing on basic attacks
-Ability to move allies front and back
-More dmg on shields
-Unique mana system with no cooldowns
-And an ult that is double wall
@@goutsou2 not all on one god. The only unique thing she has are BA heals and tower stuns. The rest of her abilities are just stronger versions of other gods abilities

@@goutsou2 there are tons of gods that have abilities with no cooldowns and cost no Mana. Cu culain (however you spell it) doesn't use Mana. She just has both like i said. No Mana, no cooldowns. Her 3 is just a deployable sobek grab that also works on allies. And gives them speed..and gives them protections. All they did was mash a bunch of effects onto her abilities. They've been doing it with every new god that comes out. Persephone is definitely more unique. Hi Rez thinks that giving every new god every kind of cc available is cool. Her basic attacks heal..they gave her 2 1's. A stun..a leap..but also works on allies that also gives them buffs and slows enemies. Like. Wtf. I don't care if they recycle abilities. Or rework them. But why can't a dash just be a regular dash? Now every god is capable of doing everything. While other gods like Zeus have nothing but slows. Sorry for the rant but hi rez is doing a TERRIBLE JOB. I've put thousands of hours into this game, and they keep releasing new pantheon's and stacked gods instead of building on what they have.

I recently became gaurdian with Kehpri and Artio actually. Only because i was working on leveling everyone and didnt understand Gaurdians just yet.

Rey Saint and I take it that you are fairly new?? I only assume so because you said you never understood guardians but I can reassure you that they are the foundation of the team, they serve as shields and aid the team with aura effects and protection etc

Yemoja is 1) “the metaphysical mother of all Orishas”, 2) she is the leader of river Orishas thus she is the Orisha the Ogun river - the largest river of Yoruba Land, 3) she is “the mother of humankind” as in one of the traditional Yoruba creation stories Yemoja using her waters-gave Obatala water (interpreted by some as thus [creating the clay], as clay/mud without water isn’t clay/mud but lowly dirt) 4) she is the paramount Orisha of motherhood: the fetus (the developing baby or babies in the mother’s womb, amniotic fluid, & 5) she is the “counterpart” of Olokun. It seems that she is also sometimes referred to as the “mother of life”, in Yoruba land. Her name roughly translates in Yoruba to English as being “Mother whose children are the fish”. Protector of the mothers & their unborn. The first person anybody knows, even before their father, is their mother.

Ultimate legend this is why it’s important to get things right. Oshun is the yoruban river godess, not yemaya... Yemoja, or Yemaya is the ocean diety.
Dami i respect your interest in the subject matter, however, This is not up for discussion. Mami wata, Kalunga,Yemaya, yemonja, there are many names, but there is one OCEAN 🌊 the rivers used to belong to yemaya but she gave them to Oshun, you can’t believe in one diety and not the others. At the very least respect the culture and religion if you’re going to exploit it for money 💰 in a video game 🎮
Mind you orishas have a large and widespread worship, while greek pantheon serve to make preteen books, and no, shes not associated only with rivers.

Outside of conquest I'm sure, but in conquest if they go damage then they will be playing her really poorly.
Her scaling for damage is awful when mixed with those base numbers.

Actually, no, this is based on the Yoruba African mythology, not South America, there are differences between the 2. They spoke about that in the patch notes.

In West Africa, Yemoja is worshipped as a high-ranking river deity, but in Brazil and Cuba she is worshipped mainly as a sea/ocean goddess. River deities in Yorubaland include Yemo̩ja, Ọ̀ṣun (Oshun), Erinlè̩, Ọbà, Yewa, etc. It is Olókun that fills the role of sea deity in Yorubaland, while Yemoja is a leader of the other river deities.

Remember when god reveals had actually real combat scenarious from PTS with players and not this stupid bot plays? Also they used to teach what abilities to max out and what items to build.. Now we get 4 min videos of ability showcase..
Too be fair, I think abilities maxing and item wise, players should figure out themselves.

PTS have almost no players actually, new Gods aren't adequate to new players and the olders can pretty sure figure how to use it alone. And by the way, their vision of how to build the character usually was wrong or so cliche that anyone could see it.
