You're not far off though, the whole thing is very rich. The orixas can be represented in many different ways, many are represented as 'saints', originally as a way for the african slaves to 'sneakily' worship them while acting as if they're converted to catholicism in order to please their masters/not be punished for their faith.

While I do think it’d be interesting for them to have the lore of each new god, I’m not entirely sure how they’d enhance the spotlights. I personally only watch these things to get an idea of their abilities and gameplay styles. It’s cool to learn about their history and lore sure, but from a gameplay perspective it’s really easy to ignore/forget about.
I hope more yoruban deities will come to Smite, like Shango (thunder and lightning deity), Aganju (fire deity), Ayao (air deity), or even Osoosi (forest and hunting deity).

The whole game was better when it first came out. I don't miss it a bit. I even spent hundreds of dollars on it. Made my non gamer friends laugh and talk about how dumb I was. Good times.

Her third ability is so awesome!!! A really interesting design with a kind of new mechanic to the game (minus things like jing wei’s 1) I think that’s one of my favourite abilities in the whole game. They've been doing it with every new god that comes out. Persephone is definitely more unique. Hi Rez thinks that giving every new god every kind of cc available is cool. Her basic attacks heal..they gave her 2 1's. A stun..a leap..but also works on allies that also gives them buffs and slows enemies. Like. Wtf. I don't care if they recycle abilities. Or rework them. But why can't a dash just be a regular dash? Now every god is capable of doing everything. While other gods like Zeus have nothing but slows. Sorry for the rant but hi rez is doing a TERRIBLE JOB. Actually, no, this is based on the Yoruba African mythology, not South America, there are differences between the 2. They spoke about that in the patch notes.
In West Africa, Yemoja is worshipped as a high-ranking river deity, but in Brazil and Cuba she is worshipped mainly as a sea/ocean goddess. River deities in Yorubaland include Yemo̩ja, Ọ̀ṣun (Oshun), Erinlè̩, Ọbà, Yewa, etc. It is Olókun that fills the role of sea deity in Yorubaland, while Yemoja is a leader of the other river deities.

In terms of her kit Yemoja is probably the most unique god in the game.

-Ability to move allies front and back
-More dmg on shields
-Unique mana system with no cooldowns
-And an ult that is double wall

@@goutsou2 there are tons of gods that have abilities with no cooldowns and cost no Mana. Cu culain (however you spell it) doesn't use Mana. She just has both like i said. No Mana, no cooldowns. Her 3 is just a deployable sobek grab that also works on allies. And gives them speed..and gives them protections. All they did was mash a bunch of effects onto her abilities. They've been doing it with every new god that comes out. Persephone is definitely more unique. Hi Rez thinks that giving every new god every kind of cc available is cool. Her basic attacks heal..they gave her 2 1's. A stun..a leap..but also works on allies that also gives them buffs and slows enemies. Like. Wtf. I don't care if they recycle abilities. Or rework them. But why can't a dash just be a regular dash? Now every god is capable of doing everything. While other gods like Zeus have nothing but slows. Sorry for the rant but hi rez is doing a TERRIBLE JOB. I've put thousands of hours into this game, and they keep releasing new pantheon's and stacked gods instead of building on what they have.

Remember when god reveals had actually real combat scenarious from PTS with players and not this stupid bot plays? Also they used to teach what abilities to max out and what items to build.. Now we get 4 min videos of ability showcase..
Too be fair, I think abilities maxing and item wise, players should figure out themselves.

PTS have almost no players actually, new Gods aren't adequate to new players and the olders can pretty sure figure how to use it alone. And by the way, their vision of how to build the character usually was wrong or so cliche that anyone could see it.

Her scaling for damage is awful when mixed with those base numbers.

Mami wata, Kalunga,Yemaya, yemonja, there are many names, but there is one OCEAN 🌊 the rivers used to belong to yemaya but she gave them to Oshun, you can’t believe in one diety and not the others. At the very least respect the culture and religion if you’re going to exploit it for money 💰 in a video game 🎮
