The movies are fun but you lose so much of the story when you lose access to the characters' thoughts. TBOSAS works because Collins does a phenomenal job putting you into the mind of someone who is pathologically narcissistic and probably a neurological psychopath, then letting you experience the dissonance between Snow's reasoning for doing things and what the other characters think is his reason. The earliest example of this is why he actually goes to meet the tributes on the platform, why Lucy Grey thinks he's there, and the way he eventually spins it when things go off-plan. Hell even his opening obsession about his shirt makes you feel uncomfortable in its dissonance.

exactly my thoughts. it didn't live up to my expectations AT ALL as well as the standards of the original movies, i found it to be incredibly underwhelming with non-compelling characters and an weird-ass off pacing. also I just expected it would take me back a bit to 2012/2015 and give me that feeling back that the original movies had, and it didn't do that at all so maybe I might be a bit biased. but. overall it was just a mediocre movie for me where the only thing that stood out to me was maybe the acting and that let me down and disappointed me in so many ways (I didn't even read the book this time, but I agree that YES, it was INDEED a lot of peoples opinion and I can't blame them).
That's okay. I'll agree to disagree though. I thought the film was a fantastic character study into how someone can become a dictator. They did a phenomenal job with it. It was like a Shakespearean tragedy.
