@TheSushiraw D-30KU (Soloviev's engines) engines are mounted on IL-62M or on IL-62MK but NK-8 (Kuznetsov's engines) were mounted on first generation of IL-62. The IL-62M on video has D-30KU engines not NK-8.

The Il-62 made a huge impact on air travel in Eastern Europe and Asia, but as with almost every other russian plane, the media presents it as some kind of killing-machine that is only held together by tape. It DID have some huge design flaws, but so did the first few series of the 737, yet I never heard the media make horror stories out of them. What is even more unfair is that both the Il-86 and Il-96 got the same bad reputation, despite being some of the safest airliners ever built. There are rumors that Ilyushin is working on a twin-engine version of the Il-96.I REALLY hope they succeed. Boeing and Airbus could use some competition on the wide-body market.
Competition for IL? Haha, you should be a comedian. Nobody buys Russian made planes except for third world country airlines and some second world country airlines. A new IL will not take away from Boeing and Airbus' production and sales of aircraft.

+OD786 Dro Load of shit. Irish CityJet ordered 15 Sukhoi Superjet 100s and Greenland Express has 5 on order. There's gonna be more to come, also things are gonna change a lot after Irkut MC-21 gets launched officially. Russian aircraft industry is getting back on it's feet, the West tried to smother it for 25 years and they failed badly.

I remember when I was a little boy I saw Gorbachev take off in one of these after a summit in the USA. I thought it was a beautiful aircraft and it reminded me of the MD-88 I flew on the previous summer.

Great video! Took a flight on an IL62 from Montreal to Moscow shortly before the end of the Soviet Union. On all of the flights I have taken on Russian planes the landings were smooth as glass... hardly knew when we actually touched the ground.

My favourite airliner from soviet era. A very nice design, specially the tail and the twin engines, but so noisy (quite as much as Concorde...)! I think they are now forbidden in UE sky, and surely in USA too, but this one had a good reason for LAX landing. Superb quality of the footage.

In the 90's I used to take this wonderful machine from Tashkent to New Delhi under Uzbekistan Airlines colors 🇺🇿. I still have really good memories of this superb aircaft 👍👌🤩!!

I've had a chance to fly on Il-62 few times long time ago. Sound of its low bypass engines is unmistakeable. I love that sound. Less than 300 were built. Only very few still remain in service.
I was lucky to have ridden a Soviet-era Aeroflot IL-62 from Heathrow to Moscow via Leningrad - 1985, if I remember correctly.
Absolutely beautiful aircraft and amazing engine sound. Aircraft nowadays have gone the way of cars - safer and quieter, but with none of the raw thrills. I can listen to the IL-62's engines all day.

Не один раз пришлось стоять "на связи", выпуская Ил - 62М. Подтверждать выпуск закрылков, перекладку стабилизатора, докладывать о положении колёс хвостовой опоры. Как же давно это было! А этот красавец - Лайнер продолжает летать! Чистого неба тебе - Ил !

Amazing footage, a rare chance to look at it up close. Some airlines however had very traumatic experiencies with IL 62s, like polish LOT in the 80's.
Yeah like LOT 5055 (May 1987) when after takeoff on a WAW-JFK flight an engine exploded and destroyed another one, then destroyed flight controls. The crew very almost made it back to Warsaw but the aircraft crashed into forest 40 seconds from the runway (183k). RIP :-(
Liam Blackman That's right, and like LOT 007 as well (March 1980), same type of aircraft, crashed near Okecie airport arriving from JFK, due to mechanical failure, as the crew aborted a landing and attemped to go-around. All 77 passengers and 10 crew were killed.

Stunning design. I’ve been lucky enough to fly on two IL-62Ms: Aeroflot (CCCP-86535) and Malev (HA-LIA). I wish they still made aircraft like them. All pretty much soulless nowadays. Great video by the way. 😎👍🏻

Excellent video, especially liked the tracking shot. You have unique access to get some amazing up close footage. Really enjoyed the sound too. I was lucky enough to see some of these for the first time this year and it was a real treat. Very nice too see, moreover hear, something different and something rare in western skies. This aircraft has never been in Aeroflot, it is one of the last manufactured in 1996, and it went directly to Ministry of Emergency Situations, where it's been ever since.
I would love to have my own IL-62.
A stealth plane this aircraft was not!!! You could hear it coming from miles away! But, what an amazing sound - a four-engined symphony!!!
I used to live directly under the flight path of these aircraft on final approach. Not even the Concord was as loud!

Wow! There was a chance we would have had these in Finland too in the bilateral trade we did with the former Soviet Union. However our civil pilots had an aversion to Russian planes and they had a word to say whenever new planes for Finnair were ordered. Probably there were other factors as well, such as the need of maintenance, fuel economy, and rapidly aging design. Anyways, a gorgeous machine!

Yo siempre he dicho que los Ilyushin son unos señores aviones de largo alcance. Y a menos que me equivoque, Cubana todavía tiene uno o dos de ellos. Y la gran ventaja de no tener motores en las alas, lo hace más rápido y más dinámico. Es uno de los mejores aviones que han inventado los rusos.

Flew Gatwick to Costanza (Romania) in 1974 on one of these operated by Tarom - delayed 1 hour for technical checks so a bit scared. Flight was fine.
