It's 5 years later, did the tree thrive after the filling of mole holes? I noticed you were filling with compost. My understanding is compost should always go on top of soil. Please show an update of what the tree is doing now. I was sort of curious as well if it did get much bigger, the tree trunk must be super close to the AC by now. Thanks for sharing.

The only way for me to get rid of underground critters was a couple of 15 minute emergency road flares. Smoke went through the tunnels and we haven't seen anymore destruction.

one blogger dug up his tree and put a inclosed cage around the bottom of tree that goes under the ground and replanted with the cage or wiring. love the video, garden is so beautiful. i had a pinkerton/zutano, and a fuente alvacado trees. the sun just damage them so badly, where the stems became dark. i have found that they must have shade, the younger they are. veggies, are the same. i have bought sugar baby water melons, cucumbers, spagetty squash, the sun burt me til gone. i have decided on a green house are something totally shaded. thank you charles. much love and god,s peace be with you.

      Hello Rafiqa11,
ALWAYS great to hear from you! :-)
I have a friends garden I will be preparing a tour to share with all of you in September, where nearly every tree is planted in cages to protect from the uncontrollable number of ground rodents on his property.... however, he has one of the nicest fruit forests I have ever seen... So well organized and a Moracan theme too! With regards to your avocados, if you spray the young stem and leaves with IV Organics 3-in-1 Plant Guard as a foliar spray, you can help keep your young avocados cooler in those full sun areas they will come to appreciate once you get them through the 2-3rd summer.... and their canopy is large enough to shade the lower tree trunk and branches. Keep me posted on your growing successes!!! Much love and God's peace be with you as well! Charles :-)

i wanted to save it for bigger trees that i need to cool their trunks. i am just so disappointed in the alvacados, i must have alvacados, i would love to grow watermelons, cantelope, ,honeydew melons, cucumbers, spagetti squash. but my solution is a greenhouse. the sun just burns them up. i have taken dirt back to lowes/homedepot, with refund for 4 or 3 for $12.00 veggie pkg. so disappointed.
i look forward to your next video, i just love them, they are so informative. thank you charles

I have found the hard way that Avocados don't like to have their roots growing in compost.
They only like leaves (or chips) decaying on top of the soil.
I would fill in any holes with dirt, and then put any compost on top.

The Diggers 15 gallon Root Guard is constructed so that it does not girdle the tree roots. It disintegrates after a few years so it gives the tree a chance to get well established and less susceptable to rodent damage.

You have a root eating grub in the ground - grubs like Avocado's . The fat white big kind. I feed those to my chickens. You have to dig them out - not too easy to do but you have to get those buggers out. They don't like horse manure water that I use for fertilizer, so I have very few grubs but I had a suddenly dying Avocado also and I used horse manure water to revive it.
And Avacado's love water - water often. It is a fast growing tree and needs extra water and nutrients.
Every time I'm told to be sparing on the watering, I lose the tree. AS long as you have good drainage, water a lot ! And yes in winter too !

      Hello Cynthia and CSAcitizen Feather,
A banana plant should go from flower to ripe fruit within 3-4 months during the warm growing season; however, if your banana plant blooms later, as my ice cream banana did in September, you may end up waiting though winter to enjoy "vine ripe" bananas; what ended up taking 9 months! Wood chips against your tree isn’t harmful. Watch Paul Gautsche L2survive. In nature nobody moves the chips away from trees. I’ve put 4” next to my fruit trees and it helps retain moisture thereby reducing watering. Thanks again for another great video.

hi charles...i had to ask for a exchange for my nam doc mai mango tree. i kept it in the shade, feed/watered it. then notice the leaves started looking dry, and falling, so i decided to repot it. noticed that the roots were dark brown, and stringy looking. i thing the roots had dyed when i recieved it. but yet the leafs looked nice and green. i know there are folliage strays that can keep the tree looking healthy, but i just wish the nurseries would focus on the root system which is even more important. it really saddens me when i have to send a tree back. especially when i really want the fruits from the tree. anyway, i,ve decided to check the root system when i first receive mailed plants. to save on giving them nutrience that are wasted on a dead root system.

    • @IVOrganic
      @IVOrganic  6 лет назад +2

      Good evening Rafiqa11,
Great point, to check the roots and inspect the health of your plant prior to planting or repotting. By the time the plant made it to your local nursery, they have been handled by many people, in and out of trucks, stressful handling and mismanagement. Some potted ficus trees respond by dropping some / or all of its leaves by simply moving the plant from one part of the home to another... the slight change in light and temperature is a stress. All plants respond to "stress" differently. These stresses include pruning, fertilizing, watering patterns, light, etc, etc.... The goal with every planting is to learn and improve and get better with each successive planting season. Thank you for sharing your story! Charles :-)

My grapefruit tree was so healthy and beautiful and green and then when we moved it from one house to another it started to go down hill. First starting with losing it's green leaves (the leaves never yellowed) then it started dying from the ends of the branches down. I tried pruning the dead branches off, I tried watering it more frequently, I fertilized it.... But last time I watered, it got mold all across the top of the soil! I scooped it off and didn't see it again until today when the soil was dry and I went to water it again and I can see the fuzzy white stuff coming back! It's losing more and more leaves and I don't know what to do! It looks so awful now! I planted this tree as a seed probably... six or seven years ago? and it's now probably about four feet tall. I hate to see it looking like this! It's still in a pot indoors and I see no signs of bugs or anything... I know this video is two years old but... Can anybody help me??

However long ago this video was posted is beside the point, but I the avocado king am now seeing it. The avocado tree is way to close to the A/C unit and it will give off more heat than needed. The wall reflects the suns rays which are super bright, makes the area super hot, reflects onto the plants nearby and emits heat at night. I grow them in pots and in the ground ( in a shady area they will grow like gangBusters) . S Also the sunflower is drinking the water the tree should be drinking. Other than that your garden looks great. Keep up the great work.

Hi Charles, I have a question regarding my fig trees.
I have transplanted 3 gig trees 1.5 yo to a new location. Watered them thoroughly but two out of three start dropping leafs and other leafs are yellowing.
I hope I didn’t kill these trees.. any advice to save them?
Could it be from overwatering, I have also added fish fertilizer
    Thanks

      D. O. I noticed on fig trees that when they are transplanted as “an adult tree” from the ground, they gradually die even if you took a great care of it. But if you transplant a fig tree of any size that was in a before in pot, will not die.
      Why they are dropping leafs?
      Posible answers:
*Transplanted as “Adult tree” they usually die...
*It may be normal if you transplanted a fig tree a little before or on fall season.
*The best time to transplant a tree is in the evening or after 6pm.
*Too much water causing rotten roots ...
*You didn’t prune most of the leaves that helps the tree to soon recovery.
*The places may have to much shade or to much sun than the place it was before ...
*Or the fig tree just didn’t like the place where you put it. (Believe me, the nature have feelings and trees are part of the nature)
*You didn’t talk to the tree about the moving ... I’m not crazy, but you should ask for permission telling the tree that you are planning to move it to a better place. (Native Americans used to do it when they took something from Nature)
-This information is from my personal experience, I hope that something works for you. Please forgive my bad spelling since I’m a English Lerner.

Peppermint will repell them but don't plant it because it is very intrusive. Put a nice size pot of peppermint in the area, plus being potted you can move it around to repell. I also have a pot of it in my house to get rid of spiders and one on my porch along with a huge pot of citronella which repels mosquitoes. Hope this helps.

I know what my problem is. I have burrowing insects that are taking out trees every year. I did once inject malathion into the root/trunk but that was YEARS ago before I realized exactly how toxic that stuff is. I am wondering, what can I use as an injection that isn't poisonous to us, or the pollinators that come in the Spring but will either kill or ward off those grubs that get into the root system and under the bark?

I planted a red bud tree a year ago in the fall (I’m in zone 4-5). The trunk shot up 15’ and it grew giant leaves. I cut the 15’ shoot back to the size of the rest of the tree. It then shot up many suckers from the base. I left these alone. This spring it appeared dead but I’ve not touched it. Now I’ve got maybe 8 new suckers. I’d like to save this tree and I like the idea of several trunks. Should I remove the dead trunks? Should I remove some of the suckers (so I don’t have that many trunks)? HELP!

You need to stop feeding it early spring. Feed it after you've started picking fruit. If you've given the soil enough food prior to flowering, all this tree needs is water and the food the mulch provides. If you keep feeding it, it will keep growing, not reproducing.
Avocados need heaps of mulch and water. We have the same issues here in Western Australia, dry as a bone and hot as balls for 4 months. 40 degrees plus, for days on end. This is a rainforest tree, not a costal desert one. They need 2-3 times as much water as bananas do, but less food.
I would imagine that plenty of mulch and lots of deep watering would also make the area within the drip zone inhospitable to those rodents. You're not going to hang around if you're getting flooded out everyday.

Hello Charles I live in Illinois and I watch most of your videos and don't think you have one on termites, I have a purple leaf sand cherry that I noticed it was oozing zap and future inspection I realized the tree had a couple of tunnel like going vertically close to soil level and saw a larvae white color. I had try to get rid of them with natural products like aloe vera and salt, it seems that might have killed them or just went deep on my tree ? . The question is obviously since is almost winter lost all its leaves, if by spring time still have termites or I don't know what other pest looks like a termite? will be still what should I do, and if the tree can come back from an infestation or will I have to destroy it, and if survive would and when can apply the 3 and 1 organic system and if I buy it how long can storage once is been diluted. Thanks in advance Charles and also for all the Wonderful information you provide. Huge fun of yours

From what I have read it has Black Stem.
I have sprayed it with a water/ hydrogen peroxide solution and put it in the roots in the same solution as it had no feeder roots, which after 7 days have started to produce a lot of feeder roots.
Clearly there is still life in it, and would rather save it than just grow another one.

I finally got a Moringa tree to grow and do well and then Hurricane Irma hit and killed it. Will it come back ?
I'm finding Moringa trees to be the hardest of all trees to grow. I've tried 5 times now. This one was the only one to grow for me and then that darn hurricane came ! And they are so expensive to buy.
My Fig trees made it through good.
But my poor Moringa just could not take the wind. I had it braced well. IT did not break, it just withered in hours and lost all it's tiny branches. It's just a bare 5 foot stalk now..
    Will it come back ?

      Hello CSAcitizen Feather,
So sorry that the Irma impacted your home! I hope you and your family & friends are all well! I lived about 8 years in Boynton Beach, then Boca Raton. Such an awesome growing climate... but always a risk with those hurricanes! My friend in the Hollywood Hills purchased a few moninga trees from the nursery and has dozens of trees that he started from seed earlier this year that are growing very well, and very fast! I am optimistic that if the morninga was doing well before, that the energy stored in the roots will push a new flush of growth in the upcoming 2-4 weeks. Please keep me posted. Charles :-)

Can i use IV Organics on ornamental Banana plants? I installed 3 that are around 5 feet tall. I think they were overwatered (i live in SOCAL also) the trunks turned a yellowish color. I have decreased the water, and I THINK that they are turning slowly back to green. But, I planted these in a very sunny area, and I was wondering if I could use this product safely on the stems/leaves? Thanks! Great videos btw!

Hi Charles, I recently moved to the Rancho Cucamonga area. I have a two lemons, 1 lime and 1 orange tree I purchased from Costco. The fruits are also dropping and the lime tree has lost all of its leaves. Not sure what I am doing wrong but on another note; I recently purchased an avocado tree from another big box store and was in the process of planting it. I walked over to get the water hose and the winds came through and blew it over. Then entire top main branch of the tree broke off. The top main branch had at least 6-8 branches growing off of it. What would you recommend as far as trying to save or rehabilitate it and should I try replanting the top branch??? Please help asap!

I love watching your videos. I ordered my first fruit trees this past week. I ordered a dwarf lemon and lime and two apple trees. I have spent all my free time educating myself on fruit trees. I would like to learn how to graft an apple tree. My son grew a beautiful apple tree from seed but want to graft it so I or we can get the type of apple tree I love. I also can not decide what size pot to put my trees in when they arrive. I watched another video from a gentleman who plants two or more fruit trees in the same container. ? What are your thoughts on that? Thank you for any advice plus I do want to order your iv organic products.

did i hear you say, no watering during winter?...ureka moment! i would water my plants, twice per week, and maybe more, if the top soil looked dry. you said, watering twice per month, spring time. i was still watering as i just stated. and you mentioned during the hot 90decree weather, you would water twice per week.
i have now realized that i have been over watering my plants, which is why some would get a dart leaf color at tips, and roots would get tinner(dye) from fungus. wow. since i,ve now water less, even my quava plants, which i just could not understand, that people say quava,s are easy to grow, but not for me. one blogger said quava, s need daily watering.
since i have been not watering for over a week, my plants look better. i will spray foliage stray once per week. on the quava, avocados. oh, i just can,t believe my previous watering mistakes. thank you so much charles . i have now got a better understanding of i was going wrong. killing with water. much love and god,s peace be with you

Hi Charles! I have a two year old tree as well but it's nowhere near as big as your tree. It's only about three feet tall if that. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but we do have heavy clay soil, could that be preventing its growth?

    • @IVOrganic
      @IVOrganic  7 лет назад +3

      Hello Yaz Q,
First, you need to consider the variety you planted? Dwarfs are far more slow growing than the standard varieties. Do you know what variety avocado you planted? Second, clay soil is not a bad thing! In Florida (where I spend nearly 8 years living & gardening), growers purchase clay to amend their sandy soils to improve the ability of the soil to absorb moisture and retain nutrients. Clay soil is improved best by adding a 2-4 inch layer of compost and mulch! By offering organic materials to the earth worms, nematodes, bacteria, and fungi that naturally exist in your soil, you can improve several feet deep of you soil as the living things in your soil consume and tunnel their way through the ground creating waste that enriches the soil and benefits the trees. I will be talking about the value of mulching in the upcoming week or two to transform the worst soils into the best!!! I hope this helps you get a bigger avocado tree sooner!!! Charles :-)

When heat is that high, plan on frequent watering before heat starts. Also if you can shade your tree that will help as well. I know this answer is coming way late but in case you still might read answer.

Hello Charles, I have now seen several of your videos and appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Thank you.
I have a Meyer lemon planted over a year ago which was very damage by a 12 hour freeze here in Florida this past winter. I am in zone 8b and 9a, literally the zones run and join through my lot. My soil is sandy, although I did add compost at the time of planting and have fertilized with a 4-6-8 Citrus fertilizer every 6 weeks to 2 months except in winter. The leaves have almost all dropped. Do you have any idea if my tree can be saved? I am thinking of moving it to a location closer to my house where I can watch it more closely, new fertilizer and more diligent watering. I have also ordered the IV Organic 3-in-1 Plant Guard and will use it on a new tree if this one cannot be saved. Any advice? At this point I think I have nothing to lose.

    • @IVOrganic
      @IVOrganic  7 лет назад +1

      Good morning Rosa,
I would start off by soaking the root zone with a lot of water and collapsing any possible tunnels with your hands (not feet) that may have been caused by underground tunneling rodents. Secondly, add a 2-4 inch layer of mulch (non-colored wood chips) around the root zone keeping a several inch space away from the trunk of the tree to prevent the risk of stem rot. Lastly, feed the tree with a balanced organic fertilizer. Feed the tree lightly as we are nearing the end of the growing season (fall) and to ensure that tree responds with more greening and/ or new growth. If nothing happens, I would still continue with the feeding into spring and summer (not winter) and see how it responds in the first half of next year. Lastly, you can do some light pruning (on growth less than 1-2 years old, to make a smaller plant that should further stimulate growth-- but be careful of sunburn by allowing too much light into the lower branches and trunk (unless protected with IV Organic product). Another preferred time for pruning would be late winter, between the time of the last chance of frost & new spring budding. Please keep me posted on your locust tree growing successes! Charles :-)
