- The origins of the parish of il-Gudja date back to 1436 when bishop Senatore de Mello declared Bir Miftuħ a parish church. The chapel of Bir Miftuħ (literally translated would eman an open well), on the outskirts of il-Gudja, still bears witness to the birth of this beautiful southern village in Malta. Down the ages, at least seven other villages grew out of il-Gudja earning the village the Latin title of ‘Pluribus Parens’ meaning mother of many Children.

The Gudja parish church is the only church in Malta with three bell towers and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The oldest procession statue in Malta can be found in this church.
Interesting info thank you

Another great video Steve, we have stayed at a house in that village opposite the park,it was fantastic, its really quiet and a step back in time sort of place ,we saw the festa there and it was magnificent, well worth a look❤
Sounds great! I wonder why more tourists don't look for a village break I bet its a great experience
Hi Steve, great video, really enjoyed you meeting the locals. I was one of the 10 pound immigrants to Australia 😁😁👍👍and from memory if you didn't stay for 10 years you had to pay the whole cost of the passage back which was hundreds of pounds. Also that Liqueur ( tal Bajtra) has been around from the times of the knights and is really nice ( well it was really nice when i had it ) nice walk Steve in a charming village. cheers 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much, I have planned more villages to come !

Yes Għaxaq on my list !!
A WALK THROUGH HISTORY, QUAINT AND MODERN ⚔ ⛪ 🏢.
Gudja as I remembered it, nothing much has changed apart from some new buildings and a bypass. Those street decorations must have been from "Our Lady of Rosary" feast on 1/10/23.. Steve, the answer to your question @ 8:31 = part of what used to be an arch 🤔.
Hello John, you'll live to 💯 with that delicious olive oil 😋.
(Shocked 👀at seeing 12:07&18:29😲🙏. No further comments).
THANKS STEVE 🚶 🎥 👏.
Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™
Thanks John I loved it there beautiful little village
Lovely to see the old Malta that I remember buildings are beautiful 😊
I totally agree!
Hello again Steve...' Jum il-Helsien' translates to ' Freedom Day, 31st March 1979. It's when the British Military Bases in Malta ceased to exist.
Thanks for the info my friend
Hi Steve, My Grandma was from Gudia but I never been must visit next time I’m there. Thank you so much for the video. Steve SQAQ 6 means Alley way 6😄
Yes I know But I was joking cuz I never say it right ...lol 😂 take care
I love your lost ins, nearly as much as the world famous road runners 🏃♂️ 😊
Shame the roadrunner does not get many views, what you think about the camera inside the car ? And can you remind me that northern English dish made with dried peas, cuz i got a packet in the cupboard and I know we talked about it ! Whats it called? Forget what to do with it !
@@EnglishmaninMalta Pease pudding. The camera inside the car made it feel like a passenger experience, if you know what I mean.
@@Stebs_Paintings oh thank you, one draw back its not so sharp with the screen in front

Really enjoyed it !!
Steve...hi....I think you went to Gudja just after August the 15th....Santa Marija which is celebrated at the given date in 7 different villages in Malta and Gozo.
No it was last week i an finding out it was a small festa not the main one
Good morning Steve, we have plans for a week in Malta over Christmas, I'm watching your Chanel for research 😊🎄 Il Gudja looks ideal as we avoid concrete jungles 😊 My concern is there are places to eat on Christmas day?
We are hiring a car so this could be a day trip if you recommend somewhere more suitable for Christmas?
My back objects to steps and hills, any help will be most appreciated 🤗🏴🤞
Yes loads of places to eat christmas day ! not to sure in the small villages Gudja band club might do something ? but hotels are nice on christmas day, like hilton/Excelsior / Seabank / depending on your budget, other then that sliema/St julians/bugibba loads of restaurants doing christmas day lunch, Remember to try and book, hope you enjoy
@@EnglishmaninMalta many, many thanks replying Steve 👌😁 decided we are hiring a car and do day trips/tours around the island (getting lost playlist 🤣) 🚗
so now we need to decide where to base ourselves 🤣 we prefer self catering for more choice, street food lunch (your playlist again 🤣) and eating out each evening 🍽️
My shortlist is...
Valletta 🤣 but which area? Around the royal theatre/republic street seems flatish?
Or
Three cities?
I'm going round in circles 🤣 I'm so pleased to have found your channel 🤗👌
@@gardenaddict sounds awesome !! Keep in mind my mate over at Ta Marija Restaurant in Mosta, they put on a great christmas menu, you will love the atmosphere there mixture of Maltese and English food with entertainment..a must book as soon as you can !!
@@EnglishmaninMalta thanks Steve will book straight after flights etc...
👌 looking forward to your upcoming vlogs 👌 thanks again for your help 🤗
