Hello mate, I did watch that vid before buying the reel but didn’t take notice of that bit! I will try and take the line off, that plastic off and respool it!
Russell mentioned If you look at the bare spool every 1/4 there are two indentations and on the inside of the reducers there are two “nipples” in each half . Take one half and attach on spool so it clicks into indentations (slide around till you hear/feel click) then the second half will auto fit perfectly. NO mistake from Penn, except on poor or lack of instructions. Your reel is good to go and I am loving mine
Hello Martin mate, Thanks for the explanation! I did have a look at the instructions but not a deep look so maybe it does say in there but wasn’t obvious? I will take another look when I respool the reel 👊
@@FishingwithMattUK just had another look at manual, they don’t even mention them let alone tell you what to do with them!! I had experience from owning a couple of shimano reels and this reel is a very good copy..maybe better?
@martinpaul6146 hahah! Very moronic - I will be sure to make a follow up video if I can get my head around it! I’ve heard they’re possibly better than the shimanos but I have no experience of them! 😎
@@FishingwithMattUK A very good review of a reel that is getting some good press. Another review here with comparisons to the Shimano: ruclips.net/video/rywo90Oyz1I/видео.html There was a bit of confusion on a number of sites as to whether the XT comes with a spare spool. Folk were mixing up the new Tidal with the Tidal XT. The Tidal does not come with a spare spool, but the XT does. 👍👍
No problem! Thanks for the comment! I can comfortably say you will enjoy using these reels! They are extremely light weight & the line lay is amazing. I really enjoy using them & will hopefully have a follow up video out soon!
Im using the first penn affinity. Good reel to but heavie. Did good last 12year. I go find a tidal xt now :). 😊if ever in the netherlands let me know. Boat trip zander included. Do you fish in south uk? Cuz the stone beaches.
@Tunity-u5l i’ve found all my penn gear to be reliable! I will definitely give you a shout if I come to the Netherlands 😎 I do fish the south coast. The beaches round here vary from stone to mud to sand etc.
Hello mate. I did a video unboxing the surf cast 14ft rod. I have that and the smallest spin rod. Overall they offer great value for money. The new surf rod is more stiff than the old ones so it casts like a beast! A very nice rod if you ask me. I haven’t found any cons yet
Hello mate! Yes I did! It turns out theres a plastic wrapping on the pre-installed spool that needs removing. You then have to click the line spacer into holes on the reel to make it fit
@@FishingwithMattUK perfect, and how have you found the reel , do you think it’s really improve your casting distance ? Really interested to know how you got on , as I’m looking at a few reels myself like the ultegra XR and the Pen affinity 3
@TheGun311 hello mate! So I have found a few things for sure but haven’t tested cast distance compared to other reels but its on my list of videos to do. One thing I really like is the weight of the reel - its practically a feather. Another is the line lay on it is 2nd to none. It lays the line perfectly which helps with cast distance.
Hello mate, I have never used the shimano but have heard they are amazing reels but obviously more expensive. In my opinion you cant go wrong with the Penn Tidal - Its a beautiful feeling reel, casts lovely, retrieves amazingly and feels amazing too. Hope that helps but i’m sure there are reviews on that reel out there
I assume you’ve had a bad experience then? I’ve gone from wraths to the tidals and the tidals are absolutely amazing reels. I have so much Penn gear and I can’t fault any of it.
its a grey membrain that is put round the spool. Matt. i watched a utube video teacle tackle unboxing a tidal xt 8000 i have one .

Looks amazing bit of kit
Thanks James! Im really happy to have it
Could you please provide information on the country of manufacture?
Hello mate, I’m unsure but there is probably some information on the Penn website
You have to take the plastic off the reel spool first
Someone else said that as well but I couldn’t see a plastic bit to take off
hi mate did you end up fixing the black spool problem you had?
Hello mate! Yes I did! It turns out theres a plastic wrapping on the pre-installed spool that needs removing. You then have to click the line spacer into holes on the reel to make it fit

@TankerShell all good mate 😎 can defo recommend the penn reel - i’m not sponsored by penn or anything either!
Matt it may be for the other spool
I tried them on the other spool and it was the same story 🤷♂️🤦
It's a guy who used to work for shimano and moved to penn who designed the reel.
Fair enough mate! Heard alot of people say they are very similiar
Have to take the plastic bit off the spool
Hello russell mate, I’ve just had a look at the spare spool & theres no plastic to take off?
Love penns never use any other make. Penn 850 i got must be 20 years old two of them
Hopefully penn see this video and send you free bees
@hatchie61fish-on29 haha I highly doubt it mate. Wont be anywhere near their radar
@FishingwithMattUK not on the spare there isn't but the one that come with it has
Penn are shit the okuma 8k surf will piss all over them for half the price wouldn't touch my blasters after the okuma
