Hindsight is 20/20. Buddy had no clue the value was going to go down especially because pawn stores are notorious for low balling you then when the authenticator comes in the item is usually worth more.

One PEZ felon I know of is serving life sentence, his 1st victim was killed by getting a PEZ shoved down the piehole, his 2nd victim was repeatedly bonked in the head with a PEZ dispenser, his 3rd victim got whacked over the head with a PEZ dispenser and it broke into pieces, then sliced him up with the broken dispenser that became very sharp (akin to a smashed glass bottle).

Years ago I had some old copies of Dickens books and swore I hit a gold mine but what happened when I brought it to an expert was shock when I found out they were inexpensive copies that families bought in years passed to make your home look cultured. Basically the collection of Dickens books may have a had a sentimental value as my grandmother who passed on had owned them but financially they were worth little. Unlike the knuckleheads in the Pawn Stars clip here I thanked the expert I took the books to near my hometown and left.

With collecting old things, it's always "buyer beware". You need to see authentic items to see how they look, feel, the style, details, etc. And even then, that might not be enough to tell the real thing from a reproduction.

It’s funny that everybody here in the comment section is suddenly an expert on everything that’s brought into the store. “The store is lowballing them!” Geez, you guys sound like the customers who don’t believe what the actual expert says the thing is worth.
ANYONE who goes to a pawn shop expecting to get anywhere near auction/retail value is just deluded. If you have something THAT valuable, get it appraised (you can get that for free BTW), and go to an AUCTION HOUSE and set a reserve value.
Ain't frickin' rocket science.
OBTW, for anyone not living in LV, where this is pretty much common-knowledge: a lot of those are set-ups for the show. A friend of mine was down there and was approached about selling some item...
NOT QUITE! Depending upon the item and more importantly the CREDENTIALS of the appraiser, those evaluations and COA's can often cost several hundred dollars. Sometimes you win, sometimes not but that's the risk of high-end collecting!
