This halcyon video is absolutely priceless to see! I grew up in Wrightwood/Ashburn (St. Thomas More Parish) in the 70s/80s, and it's safe to say I frequented (or driven through) most of these locations as a young lad. Ford City, Oak Lawn, Beverly, Evergreen Park........heck, all of 95th St west of I-94, been there + done that! I even remember the Coral Movie Theatre on 95th St (right across from Cupid's Candies near Cicero Ave)....used to be a haven for Disney animated classics in the day (it eventually became a TCBY Treats by the late 80s)! Thank you very much for your preservation efforts!
Love it! I lived in Hickory Hills from 1965 to 1975 and I see a lot of familiar places. I never thought I'd ever see any vestige of the Cupid Candies that was once in the Hill Creek Shopping Center in Hickory Hills but, if you look closely, it's there in the video. Now I know for sure exactly where it was once located. Thank you so much for posting this!
Love how everyday mundane scenes are precious years down the road. Everything changes and cool to have documentation. Save at Venture, YEAH save with style!!
Lived in Oak lawn most of my life remember every single one of those places. I worked at the Community Discount at 95th and Ridgeland in the late 1960s. Went to OLCHS and ST> GERALDS also. Was working when the tornado hit in 1967 and when they started building the mall in 1980 and leveled the corner it did a more complete job than the tornado ever could. Thanks for the memories and do you remember The big top and Dots spot ? best hot dogs and hamburgers anyware and pizza pete.......
I grew up in the 70's in Rogers Park. I love how everything back then was a 'center'. You had the activity center, the family center, the auto center, the value center, the refreshment center, the beauty center, the amusement center...lol. I also remember shopping at Kohl's, and it was just a grocery store.
I worked auto shop at Homewood Venture but filled in for vacationing mechanics at 95th ,made more in commission in a week than a month in Homewood. Wondered how many kids in school pictures I met at Sauk Area Career Center, street racing, parties?
I grew up in the 60s in Garfield Ridge a few blocks from Midway. Went to grade school at Our Lady of the Snows 48th and Leamington. Ford City and Scottsdale were GO TO places for my family up until we moved in the 70s . Pretty sure my late Mom bought every piece of furniture at the Goldblatt's Home store place on Cicero. Wow, I can even remember the Korvettes. :) Sadly, when I went to a funeral back in 2011 for the last family member it had all changed. And NOT for the better. Oh Well. TY for a wonderful vid and a great trip down memory lane. 😊❤👍
we moved to oak lawn in 79, i was 10, so this is a perfect time capsule for me. never thought i'd get to see jupiter and the original lineup of stores at green oak again (and the sign!).... sob. used to hang out at/in(!) that tank. and yeah, probably my dad driving to work, lol
Great stuff, thanks for posting this. I lived across Cicero Ave from Sportmart. You can see Dino's Standard station in the clip just before they cut away, we were just a few houses down the street from Dino. Very cool stuff, thanks again.
What was that Venture store at 10:00? I remember seeing that outside so many times as a kid, it stood out and imprinted my brain but don’t remember what kind of store it was. And was it in the same strip mall as Kmart on 95th n Pulaski? I loved that Chuck e Cheese’s as a kid at that strip mall. I really really really wish they took a walk inside the Evergreen Plaza, that would have been amazing to see it in its heyday
So cool seeing 111th in Mt.Greenwood there by E92 T45 A17 and Chicago hardware. And I remember them signs at Evergreen Plaza well. Lot of great memories and places in this one... I remember Ventures at 95th and Pulaski, but we usually went to the one in Ford City.
My Grandparents used to babysit me from time to time and we would walk to the Jewel, Evergreen Plaza and for a real treat go to the White Castle when they were actually 5 cents. I was 5-6 at the time. Good times.
The "southland" is more commonly used for the south/southwest suburbs of the city. See a bit of the southwest side of the city, such as Marquette Park, Ford City, Scottsdale, Bogan High - and what may be the intersection of 63rd & Kedzie?
We moved from Oak Lawn in the Summer of 1968. My Dads office was destroyed in the Tornado. His office was located close to the High School that was destroyed
I loved Woolsworth because as a kid I could go in for curly fries and pop a balloon for a freebie and spend my allowance on a flocked spaniel dog bank to keep the rest of my coins in
@@FuzzyMemoriesTV I'm Sorry. I guess I was in a bad mood that day. I recall watching these awesome videos but not writing the snarky comment. My apologies.

Johns Garage had a great burger. The 1st place I ever saw with nostalgia mounted on it's walls. A beer and a burger at Johns Garage was the best.👍😎🇺🇸
I used to work at that venture store. Located at 95th and pulaski.
Me too! About 1987
I furnished almost my entire first apartment from Venture.
My mom would shop there (with my sister & me) every August for our Back-To-School supplies.....such nostalgia!

Cool!!!
Just curious if anyone knows what part of the 70’s this was. I am thinking late 70’s judging by the cars.
The title says 1978/1979 so this would be late 70s.
Looks to be period correct, I saw a 1978 Cutlass Supreme.
whos the kid on the bike?
Pee-Wee Herman.
Where was Hill Creek? Hickory Hills?
Yeah, S/E corner of 95th and 88th. It's still called Hill Creek.
Yes, currently houses Fairplay in the place of Dominiks, a prosthetic doctor, a few restaurants, and a Dollar Tree that is about to open.
Has this been 40 yrs?? I was at Ft.Carson Co. at this time but grew up in Lockport,Ill used to compete in sports against Stagg
Was at Carson same time
Grew up in Lockport also when the population was under 2,000

The video is old enough, they didn't need to add the film dust effects.
No effects were added
