They took Aang from day of the black sun and slapped him in season 1. He's so damn serious and task focused. and questions everything he does in monologue.
The intro was the best part for me - especially when you already know the characters and world. Actually seeing the air benders beeing brutally wiped out was probably one of the strongest emotional parts of the whole series. The rest though…
I don't understand why they wouldn't have this segment a little later. Maybe while Aang flips through Zuko's notebook after he escapes his cell. (That stupid notebook... lol) He sees "Sozin's comet" written in it, and it flashes back while he reads about it. He remembers it comes every 100 years and that kicks off them trying to find out when it'll happen again. Giving him the time crunch of the original series. Zuko walks in, cutting it off before the part where they raid. Aang loses the notbook. They fight like they do in the cartoon and damage the ship. Leading to Zhao's suspicions and that whole sub plot. Aang and gang head to the Southern Air Temple as he's reminded of his people and see the aftermath as the do. There's a way to implement it, but throwing it right out at the beginning for cheap "Oh no, not the children" tears makes it fall flat. Let the viewer learn about it with the characters. Maybe we see the slaughter as Iroh sees the page and tells the story around a fire with the crew in port while the ship gets fixed. Reigniting Zuko's fire and impatience to find the Avatar. I don't know. I'm no author. Lol
Thank you for pointing out the actual issues, I swear if I hear one more person say we are just comparing it to the cartoon. ITS THE WRITING AND THAT AWFUL DIALOGUE
I noticed a lot of things different from the original and that they rushed it, but overall I was very satisfied, even more so given how awful it could be with all the woke nonsense and the history of live actions failing. The visual effects of the battles were insane good and seeing it made my eyes watery. I just hope they don't cancel it like the cancel part 2 of the movie. These f'ers just can't follow through. Thank god I bought the original on bluray. At least that is guaranteed for life.
I think it's going to get a season 2. And for me I noticed a lot of changes as well BUT it actually didn't bother me. In fact the whole time I was blurting out those things in excitement because it was part of the Avatar mythos, especially episode 4. The show to me is a beat by beat and when they are off beat they play a different but familiar beat.
even just 10 hours to match the cartoons runtime would probably be a big help. The promise of live action is usually do flesh out characters and beats more but so far feels like the show is just scrambling and rushing to hit every plot point as fast as possible
Yo great commentary definitely do more for the whole series if you can, we're going to need folks to commiserate with... Just watched the first ep and I felt it deep in the cringe when CG Aang is talked down from avatar state by Gyatso promising to always be his friend omg
Just watched ep 01 for this, and I can see so many things done better than the... movie attempt. I know about the cartoon, but I've dreaded sitting down and seeing it (even if I "know" it's good). So I'm coming in fresh! But I'm an overall enjoyed of things. I cannot not see how many scenes abruptly start and end in a way that feels forced and rushed, and it's jarring. The pacing is horrid in most parts, while few feel really good (there's almost no in-between).. and I am sure the rest of the season is going to be like this. So, I'm thinking of finally watching the original instead.
I was actually so interested to see how this show would translate for people that hadn't seen the cartoon at all so it's crazy to see that the pacing was still whacky. I think I'm going to make my wife watch it since she's never Avatar's to see what she thinks
@@burgunbeerd I am another person that came in as a non cartoon watcher...and while the live action isn't great it is still pretty enjoyable and fixed a few things that kept me away from the cartoon.
So negative. Can we not just enjoy the show for what it is? I think this show is fucken amazing so far and I have zero complaints. Characters were casted correctly, the actors do a great job channeling each character's personalities from the original, and the story is running along smoothly. Is it a bit faster? Yes, but nothing wrong with that. We live in a time where abridged versions of things are better than the extended long versions anyways.
Everything was so rushed! The fire benders are so over-powered. The firelord only need to touch someone to kill them. (Minor spoiler: later it’s shown that Ozai can just set someone on fire by just glaring even without the comet. WTF?) They made Oma and Shu lesbians. Bruh… Yes.Please breakdown the whole series.
Does it need to exist? Technically no, nothing needs to exist. But is there a place for this, yes...for people like me that were on the older side when the cartoon came out and couldnt make it past episode 4 because it was too much Teen Titans Go! and not enough Teen Titans.
I was 16 when it came out and felt the same way until I saw the winter solstice episodes, and then I was hooked. The original is an incredible show, with amazing characters and development (especially Zuko) and a lot of mature themes for a kids' show. Almost 20 years after its release, it remains one of my favorite series ever. This remake, unfortunately, doesn't really capture the spirit of the original. Not to mention pretty much everything about it is terrible especially abysmal acting. I would tell anyone my age who's never seen the original to skip the remake and watch that instead because they'll be pleasantly surprised by how good it really is.
@@TheBlueSpirit22 Yeah, but you are mostly judging the live action by what it's not...not really for what it is. And you said so yourself, you have to sift through some BS to get hooked to begin with. May as well just watch the live action which starts out stronger than the cartoon and gets better with each episode as the actors grow into their roles.
@richardclark1127 I never said I had to sift through BS, I said it took a few episodes before I was really hooked. I've rewatched it several times since, and I realized how good those first episodes are and how well they establish all the characters and the world it's set in. Just because the remake starts out with a lot of action does not make it a stronger introduction and showing how the fire nation took out the air nomads takes away from Aang's character development and from the emotion of the scene where he discovers what happened to them. As a viewer, you don't get to experience that important plot point and go through Aang's pain with him because you already know what happened. Also, I've judged this show for what it is and is not. It is a cheap, vapid remake of a much better show that only exists because the entertainment industry has run out ideas and/or no longer want to take risks on new ideas. It is a poorly written/edited/acted series. It's not even close to the original, nor will it ever because they fumbled the entire first season, and it will not retain the same rewatch value as the original. It's just simply NOT good.
@@TheBlueSpirit22 It takes nothing away from Aang's character development at all. Aang is still hit with the same survivor's guilt regardless. Does it take away from the engagement of the person watching the show? That's a fair argument...but a minor one. As for what I would tell an adult to watch, it would depend. If they can get past the tonal dissonance that is the goofy ass humor on the backdrop of mass genocide and a 100 year war...then watch the cartoon. You can, good on you. To me it is extremely off putting.
