As a beekeeper I have to say this is probobably one of the most well informed videos about why bees are dying. I just want to add that if you really want to help your local bee population, plant some pollinator friendly fowers. If you look up what kind of species you have in your area you can even specialize what flowers you plant, as some species of solitary bees only fly to a few kinds of flowers. I litteraly found your channel today and its amazing keep up the good work!!!

Ehhhhh no, the math was done but it wasn't done properly. The reason bees fly, or many insects, is they get lift on both the up and down stroke. They thought the wings couldn't change angles, that's what the fixed wing was about. However the wings rotate and go up and down, somewhat. It's easier to see in slow-motion and point it out.

Great video! As a heads up for anyone else who wants to do this, you do have to do a little bit of maintenance each season:
-when the temperature is below 60 degrees F consistently, the bees will go dormant. You’ll have to take the tubes out and place them in a shed or garage to protect them from parasites. You can use a rubber band to hold them together and a mesh/caps if you’re worried about early risers. If bees in your garage makes you nervous, you can instead support bachelor bees by planting native flowers (and it’ll be just as pretty!)
-In the spring, place the tubes back and allow all the baby bees to fly off. After giving yourself a pat on the back, clean the tubes out or replace them. Bamboo will usually last you 2 years.
It also helps to check every now and then for mold or predatory birds!

Just a heads up, but the solitary "bee" right around 4mins in is 100% not a bee, but a fly from the family Syrphidae. This is kind of OK, since syrphid flies can be important pollinators, especially early in the season before bees really get going and in more extreme environments (e.g., alpine areas).

I was just about to comment that honeybees are invasive/domesticated and not endangered, and then I saw that you were targeting the native, wild bees. So many people have the wrong idea when it comes to declining bee populations.
This is why you’re the best creator on this platform

We have a little bee hotel in our garden too. It's pretty neat watching the little guys funnel into the holes and block themselves in for a while like they're closing doors behind them.
