    Great video, Mike! Appreciate the insightfulness!

    Hi Mike, Izotope neutron has the same unmask module as Aurora so you can use any reverbs with that to get the same effect as Aurora! Jus Sayin 😅

      but then how about Aurora's resonance suppression - does this also get covered by Neutron?

    The benefit of the plug in is speed. In the real world, especially in the industry this saves a ton of time. To get this same impact you have to open and dial in more than one plug in and Soothe in particular is CPU hungry. I normally would have to side chain to get this AND it’s adapting based on analysis of the incoming signal. This is definitely my new favorite reverb.

    When I start diggin in Aurora my firs thought was why not to take great reverb like Fab R2 or Exponential R4 and use Soothe2 or Fab EQ (dynamic as supressor....and voila, you had the same idea and record and answer that you get far better quality, because reverb is way better that this one and as you said - we have waaaay better control over frequency in that reverb.
    Subscription was added, first time on your channel. Thank you.

    Great video! I think the biggest benefit of Aurora is to implement a kind of new idea (new for me, at least) in a streamlined workflow. The reverb algorithms are good and the controls provided are enough for many applications. I’m sure we will see a similar approach in other reverbs from now on.
    And in case you need a more refined approach, you just showed the way to do it. Cheers!

    What would be cool is if this was an updated R4.

    That's a nice-sounding drum! I wish I had that kind of sound in a drum plugin😘

    I placed Wavesfactory Equalizer before the reverb. Only cutting not boosting. Getting good results that way. No sidechain needed. And that plugin has zero latency and doesn't take up much cpu. Izotope products and also Soothe have so much latency.

    can you do plasma by izotope. sound a good saturation plugin!!!

    It's just Neutron's Unmask built-in simple reverb. So you can use Neutron's Unmask after any reverb you want and have that feature. Unmask is working differently than normal side-chain dynamic eq or compressor because it detects what is clashing and working only when the cut is needed instead of applying the cuts constantly even when the instruments are not clashing in that range at the moment. So it's a bit more intelligent in that way. Doesn't mean it always sound better than traditional techniques to clean up the reverb but it's cool

    I’m more interested in iZotope’s Plasma. We have enough Reverbs, even their own Neoverb.

    It's not really resonance suppression more unmasking but it did make me think, so I did a very similar experiment with TrackSpacer on a couple of reverbs which I hadn't tried before and it really made the mix way clearer but kept the sense of space. So thanks izotope, great idea but I won't be buying it.
    However, it's cheaper than any unmasking plugin I know of (the new Waves Curve thing is cheaper but I haven't tried it yet) and from what you've showed us works really well, so if you don't have TrackSpacer or Soothe and/or a high end reverb then I think it could be a great addition. For reference, if you have any izotope plugins at all it's currently 39USD. Seventh Heaven Pro and Soothe would cost a little bit more.

      "Unmasking" is resonance suppression typically applied in reference to other sources. Maybe it's all just semantics.

      @danjohnsonstudio 2 месяца назад

      @@mixingwithmike Agree that unmasking can be sometimes be side-chained resonance suppression but not always. TrackSpacer doesn't work like that, it doesn't identify and remove resonance like Soothe, it's a kind of dynamic match eq with 32 nodes. Isn't simply eqing out competing bands or using match eq in Q3 and inverting the gains 'unmasking'? Sorry for the pedantry, my Mum was an English teacher!
      One final thought on Aurora. As a big fan of the Exponential reverbs, I wish kit like this was around 25 years ago when I was starting out, even if I don't need it now.

    I learned a new trick from you today, so that was great! I never thought of processing pre or post reverb. I tend to stay away from anything like that except to dial down the problematic speech and honk resonances. I have Soothe, and I also have Gulfoss Master, so I need to do some more experimentation with those and my gazillion reverb plugins. Or I'll just use Aurora to be quick! lol Thanks for the tip!

    Actually, I was surprised that you chose this one as the plugin of the week until you smashed it with Soothe 😅guess we’re on the same page now🤘🏻

    • @mixingwithmike
      @mixingwithmike  2 месяца назад +2

      The only reason I chose it was because of the resonance suppression. That's the only thing unique about it.
      My next thought was, I can do this better...

    • @RockinwithAviii
      @RockinwithAviii 2 месяца назад

      @@mixingwithmike Exactly, that's right, I was wondering how much CPU consumption difference was there in these 2 methods. I can guess that Aurora could be much more efficient in that case

      Thanks! Picked this up a couple of days ago. Haven’t had a ton of time to spend, will do that over the weekend. Really like the way it sounds so far. For $42 you can’t lose.
