They are now starting to actually do limb transplants they have done hands in the past but there is a runner that was approached not long ago for being the first leg transplant recipient.
Mark is one remarkable human being and his wife is an angel. I can't even imagine the horror of it all and he was afraid of offending somebody? What a beautiful man.

What a great operation. Instead of having your body weight on a stump, that biology never meant to bear weight. By retaining the foot, which was meant to bear weight, must save the patient a lot of pain in the long run.

Have to say that, as a student of medical history, Mark’s situation reminds me of the good work done by sculptor Anna Coleman Ladd during WW I. She made beautiful, lifelike masks for soldiers who suffered facial wounds. There is an actual film on RUclips of her at work with the soldiers and her talented staff.

I knew a young girl who had the same surgery a the first boy. She was doing gymnastics when her shin bone snapped. She had her foot rotated and reattached. When her hair grew back and she had healed, you could not tell by looking at her in action that there was anything different about her. She is my hero. That surgery freaks me out. I dislocated my ankle last year (2 broken bones) requiring a few surgeries and many plates, pins, screws and staples. The pain was unreal, and the downtime was annoying and frustrating. What a baby I am compared to these people who suffered serious situations. Man !! Almost every one of these stories hit a familiar note with me ! My aunt had dwarfism and was a little under 4 ft tall. She was the kindest, funniest, most upbeat person I have ever known. She had the same issue, with her arms and legs not growing but her trunk and head being "normal". That young man is such a trooper !!
Patrick was so awesome in this documentary and this is awesome amazing pioneering surgery to use the foot this way, what an outstanding idea. Kudos to the surgical team and his great parents.

All of you inspire me, I have a rare disease that puts me in excruciating pain 24/7 through a nerve that goes across my lower back and up inside of me, making it hard to sit or stand more than 15-20 min. Only one place in Canada recognized and studied it now is closed. The few in Canada that have it, have no help as presently no research being done.There are days I want to give up, but I see those like yourselves that have gone through worse and it gives me the courage to go on, I respect and look up to you all. Incredible stories, I was almost sweating just thinking of the pain that youngman had to go through, 24/7 for 4 yrs and the therapy and having to go to school is almost unimaginable! What a hero!! And the little baby just broke my heart but I'm really happy they all made a remarkable recovery.
