  • I'm interested in finding out about how animals raise their young. I've been focusing on baby barn owls. Watch the video to see what I've learned and how I use this information to inform my paintings. It follows a pair from the moment the male searches for a nest site, to the day the owlets are ready to fledge. You can follow the story of these barn owl babies on my blog here: www.robertefuller.com/diary/b...

I am a British wildlife artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire, UK. I build ideal habitats to encourage wildlife into my garden and use nest cams to study their behaviour. These studies inform my paintings. I share the best of my video research on this channel for free. If you would like to support my work please consider a small donation here: www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s...
Or of course you may like to purchase my artwork which you will find on my website: www.robertefuller.com. Many of the paintings are portraits of the creatures you watch here!

Yes, I do. Because even with this nightmare of a virus going around killing people, life still goes on. Just had a baby owlet hatch out in my incubator yesterday, and need to find all the information I can about owls. I've raised many day old sparrows into adults, (lots of work, must keep warm and feed 36 times a day the first week), but never a bird of prey. Got the eggs from an abandon nesting area. The owl mother hadn't been seen for a couple of days after her nesting area was accidentally disturbed on top of a hay pile. The eggs were like ice. Took the cold eggs home and put them into my incubator thinking they must be all dead, but amazingly, one hatched out yesterday. Life, goes on.

We had a family of barn owls in the old barn on the property, this past summer. My friend had made a nesting box. Unfortunately for us, it was too high to see into, I'm sure the owls were glad for it. There were three babies and they would peek out the hole. So cute. When they were big enough, they would come out and sit in the rafters. Sad to see them go though. Maybe the pair will use the box again. Would be neat if we could set it up with a camera!

TheLitest Kit2 You’ve tried but it didn’t work, it’s not really anyone or anything’s fault. It’s just how animals are made, they always want the strong ones to live on and pass their genes but they tend to look over the weaker ones because they have a smaller chance of surviving out in the wild so their parents wouldn’t want to waste food on them. But sometimes the weaker ones do get fed depending how much energy they have
