I went to this school back when it was cochrane middle school. Best school ever. So many memories. I loved it at cochrane. I graduated in June of 2000.
This video made me tear up a little bit. All students deserve a quality education that meets their needs!! Your students are lucky to have such great leaders and teachers. Congratulations on your success!!
Awesome!! As a highly visual and auditory learner myself, and a candidate (as of this post) looking to become Certified as a ELA teacher, this was a GREAT resource to use for engaging students in under-performing classrooms/campuses. Why? It showed me how to actually get students involved in a student. It provided a step-by-step breakdown, albeit in a quick-edited fashion, of how to take students along the path of a lesson, from essential question & objective to hook to activities to help them learn the material in the time allotted for a class period. Great stuff, really.
I am impressed! I love the non-negotiables. I am also encouraged that our school system can do the same. What a Model! all of your teachers can teach us. Have other principals and educators visit your school.
Wow..what an effective PD for teachers. I wonder if a teacher there needs to teach multiple grade levels like what I experience in my school.

Wow! I must congratulate Shana and the team for sharing thier strategy to improve student's attainments and more importantly, the professional development and the non negotiables key elements. I am really passionate in sharing more ideas.
Wow! I wish my high school was like this! I graduated, but didn't do well. I did a lot better in college because they provided more support with learning
I’ve got this in my recommended
And for some reason I’m not complaining…
Accidentally hit the dislike button wanting to see why anyone would dislike this. I thought the ideas and practices in this video were excellent!
My school is kinda old fashioned and me and my friends are gonna have a meeting with them to change the system Pray that it goes well
Nice
how did you guys handle students not doing homework?
Jennifer, this video is from 2011 so we're no longer in touch with the school, but you can find some of their resources here: www.edutopia.org/stw-school-turnaround-resources-downloads. The page includes a couple of presentations on setting expectations.
Edutopia the resource link you provided was extremely helpful. Thank you.
