I have a different perspective. Going grey is THAT deep for me. Im turning 39 in January. I rejoice every grey hair. I wear them as a badge of honour. I was expected to die at birth but when I lived, I was only expected to live until I was 18. As a cystic fibrosis patient and a double lung transplant recipient, I feel honoured and privileged to be getting grey hairs. All my CF friends I have grown up with are dead. Everytime I think maybe I should hide the greys I think hold up, you’re alive and lucky. I’ll wear them proudly and honour the ones I’ve lost along the way

My mom made me very paranoid that my grays would be "ugly" because she always said how ugly her grandma's gray hair was and she made a lot of passive-aggressive comments when I decided to grow out my gray. Luckily, mine is bright and shiny, but it took me a while to realize that the reason my great-grandma's hair looked so dull and yellow was because she smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day in a house whose windows never got opened and only washed her hair when she went to get her hair done once a week. Letting people form their own opinions and respecting their choice should be the norm, unfortunately it tends to be the exception. I love that you do what makes you happy ❤

Thank you so much! At 62, I'm probably older than a lot of your viewers. I know SOOOO many women my age who started covering their grays when they were in their 40s. A number of them started growing it out during lock-down and have not gone back to coloring their hair because they like it. I have a friend who went gray very young and never dyed it. Her hair was the most beautiful silver when I met her. It's time for society to leave women alone about the color of their hair whatever they choose--pink, green, or gray!

I have had gray hair since I was 7 years old and I am 45 now. Yes I do color my hair but there there have been many periods of my life when I have not colored my hair however I love changing my hair and having different colors and styles. I believe it’s personal preference and I really dislike that we live in a society that people feel so comfortable to put one another down instead of lifting one another up. We really need to come together to support and celebrate each other’s differences. A rule of thumb that I always tell my children is if it doesn’t hurt you or someone else than it’s most likely ok!

I'm 48, have been covering grays since I was 22, and finally started growing out my gray a little while before covid hit. There were 2 main reasons - mostly because I was just tired of dealing with the inconvenience and money outlay, but also because I have curly hair and I felt like the color was doing damage to my already fragile hair. Plus, covering gray to a medium/dark, cool-toned brown without it pulling red after a week or two is rough. Now, I love my fully white/silver/gray curls, get a ton of positive comments, and my hair is the healthiest it's ever been.

People who try to put their own crap onto others are rude and hurtful, and need to look inward to understand why it makes them feel better to belittle people. I’m so glad you gave a voice to this issue. I’ll be 64 next week and have been bleaching my hair blonde since I was 18. EVEN at my age gray is frowned upon. I follow several IG accounts of women choosing to embrace their gray hair and they have had SO many negative comments. And imo these woman look stunning with the gray when you compare their befores. Coloring your hair or going gray should be and IS a personal choice. Getting judged and shade for choosing gray is so crazy to me. Women have been being told how to look for centuries. We’ve come so far and to have a WOMAN call out another woman on her appearance is a betrayal. Plain and simple. We’re supposed to lift each other up not tear each other apart. I’ve stayed blonde from peer pressure. And I’m sick and tired of it. Going gray we regretfully expect negative comments from men which we shouldn’t but to get them from other women is absolutely insane to me.
I would never disrespect another woman who feels beautiful with her appearance choices. I applaud her! Yay for her for having good self esteem!! And 9 times out of ten I see beauty and if I don’t I keep it to myself. I would never tear down another woman because she didn’t choose my choice. It’s egomaniacal and an utter lack of manners to do so.
So thank you for highlighting (no pun intended) this controversial issue!! 👏🏻🙌😘

Not gonna lie, it was shocking to see what my natural hair looks like now once it really started to grow out. It's mostly white and silver with some odd shade of brown underneath. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I don't feel like myself and think that it does make me look older than my years. In general I look younger than my actual age. I’m totally buzzing to start getting greys and wrinkles, I never thought I would live long enough to get “old” and every sign/reminder I have that I’m getting older is such a treat. I really love what you’ve said about how ageing is a privilege and the way society treats getting older especially for women is simply ridiculous. The idea that our natural bodies are inherently unkempt is just absurd.

Fab video Angie! This is the first time I’ve seen anyone discussing this on their channel. Like you say it’s personal choice. I hate seeing my greys but I really don’t mind my wrinkles too much whereas others would have Botox or surgery to fix them. Why is any of this an issue? Beauty comes from confidence & personality, not from superficial looks. We all need to support other women to be pro-ageing not anti-ageing. Xx

This is a hilarious subject for me. . . I NEVER colored my hair until I hit 70. For some reason my grays started concentrating on both sides of my forehead and I felt like I resembled a vampire! 😅😅 So I box dyed it. . . 😮big mistake! I then asked my salon to give me some lowlights to take away the one dimensional color (which was very dark!). The result was BLOND highlights! 😳 Moral of the story-I should have left my hair alone! So when it finally grows out, I will once again LOVE my grays. . . I didn’t have that many to start with. 😆😆❤ Thanks for sounding off about this!

I only have like 2 inches left of my color. It is in such great shape now. It's healthy, bouncy, it's just awesome! I may do something one day, but I was just over the coloring. Once again thank you for your honesty and sharing how people react. It’s so true how society makes women feel lazy or ugly and unkept for going gray . I seen it for years being a hairstylist. I would just always recommend ways to make the process easier by blending in as it grew out just to help with adjusting tones with the skin . Grays also make the hair more unruly as it is more course . We women need to be kind to each other.

I have dark brown hair and started getting grays in my 20s, and actually thought they were cool. But I succumbed to peer pressure. In my 40s and dyed my hair for the next 15 years. I just couldn’t chase that skunk line every couple of weeks anymore…but it was HARD to get through the transition. Finally cutting the last of the dye off was such an amazing feeling of freedom. I LOVE my silky, unique salt and pepper silver sparkles. My 37 year old daughter loves my hair so much she has decided to not start coloring. Yes, I too get Amazingly nasty comments…luckily they don’t bother me. I do believe that as more women embrace their silver it will be less associated with the elderly. Having said that I support anyone who colors their hair…I do my 77 year old Aunts roots for her every month. Live and let live ❤

Thanks for addressing this, Angie. How people want to handle going grey is a personal decision and others should respect that. If you don't want to color your greys, that's your perogative, but in no way does that make someone lazy or unkempt! Like you, I have been dealing with greys since a young age - 18! - and it's just genetic. I have chosen to color mine all these millions of years, but that's just me. If you don't want to color your greys, that's ok, just as it is for someone who wants to color theirs. Love you, Angie!

I've been coloring my hair copper (some type of natural-ish ginger hair) because I'm extremely pale and wanted to add a little life to my coloring. As I was aging (I'm now 30), I got scared that I would miss my first white hair. It felt like a milestone. But I managed to see them peak in between coloring and I was happy to be able to notice them. I keep coloring my hair for the same reason I use to, because I like myself as a ginger, but I expect one day to go back to my light brown hair and let it all be natural. I think it's great we can just all choose to do what we want, it's so important to have control over our own bodies. Having a choice is so crucial. Also, please, people stop pushing your insecurities and beliefs in other people's throat. Do what you believe is good for you, let other people choose for themselves.

I was so excited, and decided to stop covering my gray. My only wish is that 1. i could make more of my hairs gray, and 2. my non-gray hair was more black instead of brown.
