Lisa, I am a true beginning quilter/sewer and I happened upon your channel. I have binge watched your tutorials; they are awesome! I will find you on face book and share what I am currently working on. Thank you for the glue tip; so much easier! I’m glad you found the courage to go live, you truly are an inspiration - 😊
jill thomas. So nice to hear from you Jill!! Yes, join me on Facebook as I would love to see what you are working on :) I'm working on my nerves with going "live" hahaha......we all have areas in which we can grow hahaha.....I get so tongue tied lol
YAY!!! I just finished the top of my quilt, with your help! I am making my grand daughter a graduation gift of soccer memorabilia... all the teams she's been on, the tournaments she's been to... saved all her T-shirts, sweatshirts and jerseys... I had NO clue how I was going to do this... I can't tell you how delighted I was to learn your tips of gluing and ironing the seams going different directions! You made a difficult task very easy... I appreciate you!
When you touched down the quilt block #2 before glueing that edge, it looked like you were putting the wrong side up. Then you pull it towards you and literally take full control of that big block and place wrong sides together. Then you picked up the other edge, and lay it right sides together at the seam, and it touches down on your glue.....Im telling you... it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The control of blocks that big is very precarious, at best. THEN you continue glueing and laying the whole row down in about 15 inches of space and walk the whole row over to the machine. I was so excited. My sewing room isnt vast and this space saver technique is absolutely wonderful. Explaining that each row only has three seams sounds so do-able. It helped also that you choose not to keep talking while the machine is sewing, which, to me, is very stressful. Very easy to follow your teaching and tricks. I am a new subscriber, but I printed a pattern of yours back several years ago of a great IPad, phone stand. When I recognized your name on the pattern after watching this video, it all came back to me. Oh yeah, this is the lady I really liked way back when I was looking for help as a beginner tryIng to do my first attempts at sewing in years. Have a great day. Thank you so much.
I just bought a new sewing machine with intentions of making a t shirt quilt out of my dads shirts. He's not with us anymore and I thought this would be a good way to preserve his fave t's instead of letting them go to waste . This video was extremely informative and helpful in what to expect and how to get started . Love it !! I'll be referring back to it , I'm sure .
Bonnie Cuthbertson I am so glad that it was helpful. Your quilt with all of those memories will be worth every bit of effort and more!! If you ever have questions I'm just a click away :)

That you, thank you. Thank you. My son wanted a t shirt quilt but the price to have someone do it was too expensive, so for a winter project I decided to make one for him. By following your directions, you've made it so easy.
I’ve just found you here on RUclips, and I love watching your videos. We lost our 24 year old son in a rta 3 years ago and for now I cannot contemplate cutting up his t shirts. But maybe in the future. You’re so lovely to listen to...
I am really learning lots of things about making a t-shirt quilt from your videos. Thank you. If not for your videos, I would have cut my squares before putting my stabilizer on them if not for you, and also I found from your video so far how to make my corners fit together using the pressing method of locking them together. I love your videos. I love your methods and I sorry you cold doing this video because of the noise your heater makes. LOL
Great tutorial(s) and great teacher; I have made t-shirt quilts in the past and one thing I found is that when you cut the blocks you need to be aware of seam allowance. An example is your "basket case" block (a large logo) where the lettering on top and bottom gets in the seam allowance. I find I may have to make choices and sacrifice one area to preserve another (i.e. more room at top of basket case to preserve the name and sacrifice whatever the bottom line is).
also I just found you , so glad I did.... You are as calming as Jenny Doen to watch..Hope you have patience to get more subscribers, And you are a great teacher
You’re wonderful! Thanks so much for your awesome videos! Would love to see you finish a quilt with binding and backing tips and tricks! And would love to see your free motion quilting techniques.
Hi Christine! Thank you so much :) If you check out my channel, I have a few videos on binding and a few videos showing my quilting, they might be fun to watch :)
Lisa, your videos are awesome. I love your teaching method. I’m eager to make a top now using this glue stick method. My question is what should we know if we want to frame the blocks with another color. Li’e window framing. Thank you so much for all your work to make this simple and easy. I would like to learn how to sash between blocks.
I’m going through your series and thank you for all your effort in sharing your skills! I have been saving tshirts for a few years now and probably have more than I need for one quilt. I want to keep them throw size because of the weight when laundering. Have you ever had the fusible backing separate from the block after use and laundering? For the person who had issues after washing a quilt and others who have large or heavy quilts: Tips on cleaning quilts (I have been doing this for years) my machine is old fashioned agitator style with manual features so I put the quilt in the machine, fill and add Orvus while filling. I will let it agitate on gentle just enough to distribute the weight, mix the soap and water and see if I need to add more water. Then I push Stop and let it soak. After soaking for whatever time it needs, I start it up and let it agitate a minute or so then turn the dial to spin only and let it drain out and spin. To rinse, I refill it with water and no soap and repeat...soak, spin, no agitation cycle. My machine has an extended spin cycle so I use that. If your machine doesn’t, just reset to spin a second time. This is basically using your washer manually as if it were a big soaking tub with a spin cycle. I don’t know if HE washers have cycles that can be interrupted and advanced. I have only used standard center agitator machines. (But I am keeping an eye out for a ringer washer!) Thanks again!
Great information about washing quilts! Thank you for sharing! I've not had any issues with my interfacing separating from the back side of the t-shirt after my quilt is all quilted and finished. Maybe because I do an all over, edge to edge quilting like a meandering. I'd be interested to know if this is an issue that many quilters who have made t-shirt quilts have to deal with.
Wow, interesting the use of glue to seams. I bet that helps it from slipping and bunching up when you see. I haven't made a tshirt quilt yet but I am going to do that soon as graduation gift for my grandson. I am watching all kinds of you tube videos to learn the best way to do this. Thank you
Wow great video, I am so glad I found your channel a day ago, I wish I had found you sooner. I will be doing some binge watching of your videos. Thank you for sharing
Hey Denise, I'm so glad you've come across these videos and that they are helpful for you! If you ever have any questions along the way I'd love to try and help :)
Hi Lisa. Been following your videos and love them! Can't believer that your Singer Patchwork is able to sew through so many layers without a walking foot! I'm looking for a quilting/sewing machine and now this might be on my list.
Love your tutorials. I am sill at the stage to cut our the squares. Waiting to get the big ruler for making the blocks. Haven't used my machine in 48 yrs. so have to learn how to put the thread on the bobbin and thread the machine. Don't laugh. I will pursauvire. Making this for my college grandson. If it really gets done and looks good, I will have 5 more to make!
that's what happens once you make the first one.......the demand for more seems to take over hahahaa. The bigger square ruler really helps. I think it's WONDERFUL after being away from your machine for so long that you are bringing it back out! That makes me SO HAPPY :)
I wish I could take credit for thinking of using the glue......who ever did is BRILLIANT! It is a huge game changer in the quilting process in so many ways :)
I just found your you tube page last night and was watching the t shirt series and just noticed your Hokie Quilt on the wall. I'm a VT Hokie alumnae too- I love that quilt. The quilt in the background of the thumbnail caught my eye.
You could certainly press the seams open if you like. I like to glue baste, which makes opening the seams more timely and difficult, so I press to the side
I believe that you mentioned in one of these videos which batting you like to use for your T-shirt quilts. I can’t seem to find that information. Would you please refresh my memory? Thank you so much and your tutorials are great!
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Great! That’s what I use, too. You must be sitting right near your computer, just like me! Nothing else to do today but watch movies so and play on the computer. It is cold and snowy up here in Northern Michigan and we cannot wait for spring. Thanks again.
Oh my what an eye opener on using glue for prepping seams for sewing! You’ve inspired me to get started making a t-shirt quilt. Thanks for all your informative tutorials. JAWinAZ
Lisa, once it is all together, which way should the horizontal seams go on each row before you place the backing on. Should they go up to the left ha d or down to the right ? Veronica
Jadira R I will be using the same type/brand thread as I pieced my top together to quilt my quilt, just a different color. There are TONS of different threads you could quilt with, just stay away from one's that say hand quilting as they are very thick.
Lisa, where is video 4? I have finished putting it all together . I now need instructions on how much backing to buy and instructions on sewing it to the quilt. Thank you so much for your instructions, I can’t wait to show you my finished product. Veronica ( Charlottesville, Va.)
Hi Veronica, here is a playlist to a ton of t-shirt quilt videos...you'll find video # 4 and 5 in this playlist ruclips.net/video/djEXpcd66gE/видео.html
Do you ever add sashing between the blocks? I need to make my quilt a bit bigger and thought that adding sashing might be a good way to do it. Would you still glue baste? Any tips would be most appreciated. Thank you for your videos, they are fantastic!
Yes, I add sashing often, it definitely adds size to your quilt and it finishes very pretty! Gives the quilt a whole new look :) I still glue baste, it helps a LOT
Absolutely love watching your videos, thank you so much for sharing your process of making a quilt. I'v never made one before but would love to give it a try sometime. Hope this doesn't sound like a silly question but at the beginning when all your pieces are on the wall , how are they attached and what it on the wall to make that possible? Thanks again, looking forward to your next video 😀
+Lynne S. Not a such thing as silly questions :) we made a design wall with insulation board from Lowe's, and I covered it with quilt batting. The stabilizer and weight of the t-shirt doesn't allow the block to stick up there on it's own, so I just use pins to hold them up there. Works great!!
Thank you so much for replying, thats a great idea, I love how you can see how the quilt will look. I wouldn't have a table big enough table to lay it out so might have to find a suitable wall :) thank you :)
Love your videos!! Very simple and clear.I am going to make a tee shirt quilt. Did you use the apparel interfacing in the video. If so do you use before you cut or after? Might of missed it. Thanks for your videos.
Hi Emily :) I did, I used the Pellon P44F interfacing after I cut apart the shirts and before cutting my blocks. This is video #3...if you go back and see video 1 and 2.....if I remember right lol......I think I show that part :) Have fun making your quilt!
Thanks for watching Marie! The chair was a yard sale find and actually bit the dust about a week ago :( it lowered all the way to the ground and wouldn't raise back up. Time for a new one! It was a good find, lasted 3 years........not sure if the name of it
Great tutorial as always. Would you believe I’m still sick. Thought I just had the flu, but ended up in the ER. Went to my doctor and he sent me straight to the hospital. Next up is to see a neurologist. I have an infection somewhere that they cannot find. I will definitely be late to the T-shirt quilt fun, but I will still do it when I feel better.
Wacky Jacky ohhhhh seriously????!!!! Wow Jacky, I'm so sorry that you've been sick this long :(. You just focus on getting well, these videos will always be here. It sounds like you have a good plan for finding the issue, I'm glad ♡
Lisa Capen Quilts unfortunately I’m used to be sick. I have Chronic Lyme Disease that I’ve been dealing with for almost two years now so I keep telling myself this is just a setback. Thanks for the well wishes, I know they will work I’m just hoping sometime soon lol
Wacky Jacky my Mom-in-law has Lymes......and I'll be praying for this SETBACK to go quickly away...yes, SETBACK is a good word I believe, you got this!! ♡♡
Lisa Capen Quilts I’m sorry that your mother in law has to deal with the evil body invaders too. They are smart little boogers and hard to treat. It took me about a year to find a doctor that knew how to find it and treat it. Here in the Midwest ( St. Louis area) doctors do not think it’s prevalent and so they are just uneducated. I drive 3hrs away to see my Lyme doctor. I’m very interested in hearing what your mom in laws treatment plan is. If it’s anything like mine the protocols change quite frequently. If she is interested in sharing any info with me she can email me at wackyjacky1276@hotmail.com
I got some interfacing glue that transferred from my ironing board cover to one of my t-shirts. It's a small spot. Will that come out in the wash, or should I do something else to clean it?
Great video, I am confused in #3 how you collect your rows. I get row one the arrow going righted you glue on the right edge. But on row two the arrow goes left, do you glue on the left edge.
Hi Linda :) The rows are all sewn together by joining the blocks on the right side of each block. The arrows I use to remind myself which way to press the seams of each row so that they nest together when joining the rows together :)
What is the benefit of doing your seams the way you do alternating the way the seams go .does it matter if you sew the rows with the seams open is it not just as good
Hi Lisa, when you glue instead of pinning do you forego pressing the seam open since the seam is now glued together? Or do you now press the whole seam to one side or another?
Hi Lisa, I just found your videos and am happy as heck I did because my daughter sent me all her t-shirts, sweatshirts and cheer uniforms to make her a quilt. I do have one question: what do you use for the backing? Do you use the backs of all the shirts, muslin, cotton? Do you also use batting with a T-shirt quilt? Thanks
Yolanda jo you are JUST IN TIME!! today I am editing a video and I go over all of the backing options!! Check in tomorrow, I did not cover using t-shirts as an option however you could certainly do that! Thanks for joint in ♡
Lisa Capen Quilts oh ok thank you. I will be looking for your next video!!! I'm looking for the video if the memory quilt that you did with the cheer uniform. I need to see how you did the shirt and skirt. Can you tell me which video that one was so I can see how you did the cheer shirt and skirt?
Yolanda jo to see the shirt demo of that quilt look in my videos for elmers glue and t-shirt quilts. Unfortunately I ran out of time to show the skirt being done before the quilt was due.
Test out your walking foot using some scrap t-shirt material and see if it helps so your pieces together. I personally do not like the walking foot that came with my machine and so I never use it, however many people find them very useful so give it a test and see how it works for you :)
Hi Sandra :) there isn't any paper backing on most interfacing used for t-shirt quilts. I'm wondering what exactly you are using ?? Let me know and I'll try to help
Hi Lisa, I just finished my 1st quilt and after washing it a few of my seams came out. :-( Do you think my thread wasn't strong enough? I used a Polyester Thread. I'm not sure of the weight but the spool end has 250 m on it.
this could happen for a couple of reasons. First, what measurement seam allowance did you do? If it was a good 1/4" then we can probably rule that out. If it was less then that, it could be the problem. Second, a cheaper thread does sometimes break, especially under the weight of the quilt and in washing a drying. I use poly thread as well and most of the time no issues. The darker thread I've noticed is more prone to issues. Sometimes the issue could be the fabric used to make up the quilt top. Certain thinner fabrics I've seen do this. Also, how was the quilt quilted. If there was minimal quilting, then the weight of the quilt when it was wet could have pulled at your seams. If washing the quilt in a machine, I'd prefer that it doesn't have the center agitator, that helps. If your machine does, then it may be best to wash this quilt in the tub by hand in the future. These are just some of the things I've noticed as I've made quilts. I'm hoping maybe some others will chime in as well with their experiences. Sorry this happened to you, I know that can be very disheartening after all of your hard work! Time to break out some needle and thread, you can certainly fix it and make it blend in I would think :)
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Since it was my 1st quilt I do remember a few seam allowances may have been less due to my strips not being straight (that was one of the major things I learned in this practice quilt). I tied the quilt so I bet the weight of the quilt aided in this. Also, I don't have the center agitator but my washer gets a little crazy and it did get off balance during the wash so that probably didn't help. I will work on fixing it with a ladder stitch, is that what you recommend? Thank you so much for your help, I honestly couldn't have finished this project without your videos! :-)
thank you so much Melissa :) I'm so horrible at hand sewing but yes, I'd do the ladder stitch to close up any gaps in the seams on the front......although my ladder stitch doesn't much look like a ladder stitch hahaa...I need to practice! Because you tied the quilt...I'd go in and tie it a bunch more, it'll help a lot. It's your first quilt, don't be hard on yourself :) One day you'll look back and see how much you've learned!
I can't tell from the video if you are using steam or no steam when you're ironing. Does it matter which? Both at this point and after you've washed it, before giving it to someone..
Hi Jennifer :) I use steam when pressing the interfacing to the backside of the shirts, if using my iron. It really helps it to bond to the shirt. When pressing my seams, I do use a bit of steam...however....alot of quilters do not like putting water in their iron hahaha. I do :) After the quilt is finished and washed, there's really no reason to press it at that point.
That’s good to know! Have had pneumonia so going slow on my T-shirt quilt, but they are all cut out! Yeah! I feel I personally know you, you have been such a big help to me. Thank you so much for your responses!
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead thank you for your speedy reply. I have never made a quilt but a co worker of my daughters husband passed and we made them memory pillows and now they want lap quilts for their children. So going to be learning as I go here, but you are full of great tips.
Do you glue baste on every single quilt? I learned to glue baste when I first started quilting and stopped due to it being time consuming. However, I want to challenge myself to make a contest quality quilt. I think glue basting will help with keeping points and such accurate. Thus, producing a better quilt top. I'm rambling to say, I'm asking because I'm hoping you'll say no. LOL! But I think you'll say yes--and I've just answered my own question. LOL! :)
Hahahaaa you make me smile! And 95% of my quilts I glue baste hahaaa. It does add some time initially while glueing, but when sewing I breeze right through, and yep it all stays accurate! ♡♡♡
Jadira R without being right there, it's hard saying. What I would do first is take a measure tape/ruler, and measure distance of needle and the edge of your presser foot. That would be the first culprit that I think when troubleshooting seam allowance. You may need to move your needle over...try and let me know
Jadira R ohhhb hahahaa gotcha ya! The cool part about the elmers is you could take the blocks apart if you made a mistake, and then re-glue. Maybe a tip on your bottle might help, they have special tips you can get to dispense small amounts of glue
Here is the playlist for this t-shirt quilt series, make sure to watch video #4 and #5 and I think that will help answer your questions :) ruclips.net/p/PLbK4Frmd7S5d45Hs94CYJB5650GWPjWt5
I've heard people say they put together their t-shirt quilts using a serger. I've never seen it done, but they say they have great results. I don't have one or I'd give it a try hahahaa
Dolores Bryant hello :) well, I was a restoration artist in Williamsburg VA for 16 years, and dabble in a LOT of other arts, master of NONE hahahaaa. I like to make faux stained glass, art quilts, crochet, journals, I do portraits in charcoal, I've airbrushed motorcycles, and oil painting landscapes :)
I always hesitate giving pricing help, as it varies from person to person, region to region, and skill level to skill level. So many factors to consider when pricing, most importantly: time and cost of materials. You stated you were thinking of starting a business? Then you'll also have to consider those costs as well :) For some, it may be easier to determine a set hourly wage you'd like to make and keep track of your time while making the quilt. I don't think most people realize the cost involved in making a quilt, and how fast the materials add up. So a lot of times I quote prices and don't hear back from many.

that's what happens once you make the first one.......the demand for more seems to take over hahahaa. The bigger square ruler really helps. I think it's WONDERFUL after being away from your machine for so long that you are bringing it back out! That makes me SO HAPPY :)
Love it. So good to know about using the glue. Great idea.
Glad I could share the tips, thanks for watching!
great video! thanks for learning me to use glu while quilting! works soo good!
I'm glad that the glue is helping....I absolutely love using it myself :)
Using Elmer's glue instead of pinning is genius!
I wish I could take credit for thinking of using the glue......who ever did is BRILLIANT! It is a huge game changer in the quilting process in so many ways :)
Love the idea of the glue instead of pinning. Does it work if you have backed the T-shirt with interface? My glue isn’t drying. Thank you!!
I just found your you tube page last night and was watching the t shirt series and just noticed your Hokie Quilt on the wall. I'm a VT Hokie alumnae too- I love that quilt. The quilt in the background of the thumbnail caught my eye.
Michelle Brown thanks for joint along ♡ the VT was a custom quilt I made on commission and it was so much fun I made more lol.
I’m watching all your videos to try to gather the courage to try one myself! Could all the seams be pressed open or would that create other issues?
You could certainly press the seams open if you like. I like to glue baste, which makes opening the seams more timely and difficult, so I press to the side
I've made it to this step!!! Thanks for the guidance.
You got this!
As always, great information. Thank you.
+Claire Pereira. Thanks Claire ♡
I believe that you mentioned in one of these videos which batting you like to use for your T-shirt quilts. I can’t seem to find that information. Would you please refresh my memory? Thank you so much and your tutorials are great!
In rhe last several months I've switched to Warm and Natural batting and I love it :)
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Great! That’s what I use, too. You must be sitting right near your computer, just like me! Nothing else to do today but watch movies so and play on the computer. It is cold and snowy up here in Northern Michigan and we cannot wait for spring. Thanks again.
@@lucilleyurgelaitis2424 hahaha, yep I was right here so it was good timing :)
Oh my what an eye opener on using glue for prepping seams for sewing! You’ve inspired me to get started making a t-shirt quilt. Thanks for all your informative tutorials. JAWinAZ
You are so welcome, I'm glad you found these videos helpful!
Lisa, once it is all together, which way should the horizontal seams go on each row before you place the backing on. Should they go up to the left ha d or down to the right ? Veronica
Yay!! I’m excited 😊
+Jadira R Jadira, I think the glue basting would definitely help with the shirts you showed me! Give it a try :)
Lisa Capen Quilts I will! Will I be seaming with the same thread as the one I will be quilting with. You mentioned we could use a universal thread.
Video series so helpful. Thanks. Noisy machine! 🤐
Thank you so much for teaching me!! I was wondering if I could use your glue method to glue the top to a fleece blanket?
Yes you can!
Thanks Lisa for your great tips. The glue is a tip I will be using. Do you wash the quilt before giving it to your client since you used the glue?
Hi Brenda :) Yes, I like to wash the quilts before they get them
Absolutely love watching your videos, thank you so much for sharing your process of making a quilt.
Is 100% all purpose cotton thread appropriate for this project? Or would your recommend another type of thread?
Glue basting is the best!
What was the place you got your chair and the name of it.? I love your videos. Everything is so clear and love the shortcuts. Marie
If she is interested in sharing any info with me she can email me at wackyjacky1276@hotmail.com
thank you for sharing you are awesome
I got some interfacing glue that transferred from my ironing board cover to one of my t-shirts. It's a small spot. Will that come out in the wash, or should I do something else to clean it?
hmmmm........I'm thinking you'll want to get that off before you wash :)
What is the benefit of doing your seams the way you do alternating the way the seams go .does it matter if you sew the rows with the seams open is it not just as good
I will certainly try the glue method.
Awesome, in my opinion it was a game changer for me :)
Hi Lisa, when you glue instead of pinning do you forego pressing the seam open since the seam is now glued together? Or do you now press the whole seam to one side or another?
Hi Joan, when I glue baste my seams I press them to one side and not open :)
Should I use my walking foot when sewing together?
Test out your walking foot using some scrap t-shirt material and see if it helps so your pieces together. I personally do not like the walking foot that came with my machine and so I never use it, however many people find them very useful so give it a test and see how it works for you :)
The paper backing on the interfacing. when do you take it off?
Hi Sandra :) there isn't any paper backing on most interfacing used for t-shirt quilts. I'm wondering what exactly you are using ?? Let me know and I'll try to help
Do you like the Singer Patchwork?
I really do! I'm a little disappointed that the throat space is on the smaller side....but that aside, I love this machine!
Have you tried the clear Elmer’s school glue? Almost bought it but didn’t.
I have tried it, it didn't hold worth a hoot for me so saving my big bottle for other things lol
That’s good to know! Have had pneumonia so going slow on my T-shirt quilt, but they are all cut out! Yeah! I feel I personally know you, you have been such a big help to me. Thank you so much for your responses!
long distance friends, I love that!!
Lisa Capen Quilts I’m from Belvidere, IL. Nice to have a long distance friend!
Barbara Corry thanks for info was just about ready to use the clear glue
what about scrapbooking glue guns, could you use that in place of the glue?
I think I'd stay away from those types of glue which may be harder on your sewing machines and needles :)
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead thank you for your speedy reply. I have never made a quilt but a co worker of my daughters husband passed and we made them memory pillows and now they want lap quilts for their children. So going to be learning as I go here, but you are full of great tips.
What if your tshirt blocks are not all the same size?
Lisa Capen Quilts I knew it. 🤦🏾♀️ I’m going to think positive thoughts and look forward to my perfect points. 😁
I glued my first row and I measured my glued seam before I see it and it’s more than 1/4 inch. I guess i might of use a bit more glue?
Jadira R without being right there, it's hard saying. What I would do first is take a measure tape/ruler, and measure distance of needle and the edge of your presser foot. That would be the first culprit that I think when troubleshooting seam allowance. You may need to move your needle over...try and let me know
Lisa Capen Quilts I’m sort there’s a “type o” in my message. I have not sewed the seam yet. I measured the glued seam.
Jadira R ohhhb hahahaa gotcha ya! The cool part about the elmers is you could take the blocks apart if you made a mistake, and then re-glue. Maybe a tip on your bottle might help, they have special tips you can get to dispense small amounts of glue
Lisa Capen Quilts darn autocorrect! Lol
Oh, ok I’ll pull it apart and re-glue.
Thank you
Do you put the lining next to the batting ? What do you do to connect the quilt to the back?
Here is the playlist for this t-shirt quilt series, make sure to watch video #4 and #5 and I think that will help answer your questions :) ruclips.net/p/PLbK4Frmd7S5d45Hs94CYJB5650GWPjWt5
What size seam allowance do you use a quarter or half inch?
I use a quarter inch seam allowance :)
What kind of batting do you use in a T-Shirt quilt?
My favorite batting is an 80/20, but I have used all kinds :)
If you are doing the twin size approximately how many T-shirt do you need.
depends on how big you cut your shirts.....maybe 30?
Can a serger be used for this portion? Or is it not recommended?
I've heard people say they put together their t-shirt quilts using a serger. I've never seen it done, but they say they have great results. I don't have one or I'd give it a try hahahaa
can you use sweatshirts and teeshirts together in a quilt?
Hi Darlene, yes you can use both t-shirts and sweatshirts in the same quilt....I do it all the time :)
Great tutorial
Thank you!
I m having trouble downloading your free pattern what I'm I doing wrong.
send me an email at lisacapenquilts@gmail.com and I'll email it to you :)
What is the finished size of this quilt?
Do you make things other than quilts?
Dolores Bryant hello :) well, I was a restoration artist in Williamsburg VA for 16 years, and dabble in a LOT of other arts, master of NONE hahahaaa. I like to make faux stained glass, art quilts, crochet, journals, I do portraits in charcoal, I've airbrushed motorcycles, and oil painting landscapes :)
I like making small quilts and mug rugs, memory pillows
Do you have different size grids for different size quilts
Cathy I do Cathy :) in my Etsy shop, each size grid set comes with a crib size, throw, twin, full and queen size grids :)
Can you give me an idea how much to charge ?
I always hesitate giving pricing help, as it varies from person to person, region to region, and skill level to skill level. So many factors to consider when pricing, most importantly: time and cost of materials. You stated you were thinking of starting a business? Then you'll also have to consider those costs as well :) For some, it may be easier to determine a set hourly wage you'd like to make and keep track of your time while making the quilt. I don't think most people realize the cost involved in making a quilt, and how fast the materials add up. So a lot of times I quote prices and don't hear back from many.
THIS IS SUCH A TRUE STATEMENT!!!
