Thanks River, just what I needed. I dont want to buy a super sized piece of shite which is usually what they try to sell you at the local homeware stores. Thanks River. 😁🤘
We completely agree. Building yourself can be a bit more expensive, but Allison uses it every single day for the last two years and not one piece has broken or failed. That also included a more across the country. Good luck and let us know if you have any question!
Wow you would not believe how hard it is to get plumbing parts. Must be great in some ways to be able to get most things easily because you have a BIG population.
I like those big casters. Great choice! Safer, more doable. You also show how to make a furniture flatbed this way! I need one for my bookshelving in my small apartment. I use them as a portable wall. Dual purpose.
I love your diy clothing rack, it looks much more expensive than it was and even more well made than ones for sale! Thanks for this video, it is very informative and detailed! I'm going to try to make one myself 😊
thank you for making this video. my wall shelving collapsed just days ago so this is just amazing. Getting all my supplies tomorrow and going to make myself a garment rack :)
This is great! Is it possible to make the bottom shelf narrower due to space constraints? If so, what would be the recommended downsize? Can I use electrical conduit since that is what is available to me. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you for this video. Very clear and simple. I need to make this for my sewing room. The one I bought from WM was flimsy, and after hanging a few items, it collapsed. I've viewed other videos, but they were rather lengthy and the work was labor intensive... but this one, I can do without calling my local fix it man. Again, thanks!
My pleasure! =) Sorry to hear your other rack didn't work out. The stand in the video is the stand that my wife uses every day and loves it. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help!
This is so awesome! Are you able to share the "exact" dimensions of your piece of wood board, please? Money is tight so I'd like to cut it accurately on the first go around :) Thanks and keep up the helpful videos!
THANK U SOOOOSO MUCH I've bought in the past 3 racks that's just broke because they were not steel enough.. I couldn't think of how to make one my own that would last forever.. thank u very much..
Thes instructions for a DIY Clothing Rack are the easiest to follow. My questions are: Does the attachment such as crossbar to elbows have to be screwed to the tightest point? The elbows don't point in the same direction at their tightest. Is it ok to leave one side not as tight as the other? Also, the flanges when screwed at the tightest leave the verticles uneven in length. What can I do about this?
This may be a random question, but how do you handle ventilation in your apartment when doing something like this? I always thought I had to stain outside.
I really like the finished product! If i could give a small suggestion, a quick sanding around the edges will really give you a huge jump in the finished look and make it easier to handle as well as prevent it from snagging anything in the future or giving you splinters if you run into it or bush against it. Great job!
Thank you! And great suggestion. Also, great observation. We live near a highway so I would normally have the door open or staining outside, but the didn't have the room for the camera shoot outside on our porch :) So I kept going in and out and opening all the windows with fans. ha The things you do for RUclips. LOL. Thanks for the support!
Hi! How can I do this with plastic PVC pipes?? Please help. Will appreciate it a lot. I am building it for my daughter and she's an infant and will like to grab things when she grow older and I dont want a hard steel pipe hittinh her head when she grab her clothes..
Great idea! You could use the same size plastic PVC pipes you could get at a hardware store. Totally understand why you don't want the steel pipes. You might also consider replacing the wood board with something plastic. OR you could continue the pipe at the bottom like this one here: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/31/40/e1/3140e175b2dedf9d3266ab31a7f476b7.jpg
+Maica De Guzman thank you! Glad to have you. Plastic pvc will not have flanges, but you could use the style in the link in my previous comment where it just uses elbows 😊
This looks way sturdier than even the ones for sale for double are. I am just wondering how much weight this thing could hold. Given it's all steel. I have a LOT of cloths so that's something I would need to take into consideration. Also would it be possible to have two cross bars? Adding another one maybe lower down?
Allison put all heavy canvas and sweaters/coats on it and we have never had an issue. Nearly loading it to the limit. The key is the wide-base. When there are not a ton of things on the rack, you might think it's a little too wide, but the width is key to not making it shifty with the weight. The length (your cross-bar idea) is a great one, if you were using for shorter garments. I know that the jackets, long cardigans, dresses, etc. use all the space with room to not be draped on the shoes below. Check out Allison's channel for for views of it here: ruclips.net/user/thethoughtfulcloset
@@RivAndAl I tried going to the link for the plywood and it seems to be broken. It says the item isnt available anymore. Just wondering about the size is all.
Riv and Al That's good to know because I'm half way through building my own clothing rack. The pipe work is done; I just need the pine or marine ply base and coaster wheels. 😀👍 I made mine wider 50' which should be enough for 40+ shirts and other stuff. Thanks again. 😊👍
Hi Chandi, My apologies. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The link has been replaced with the proper. I sincerely apologies for your trouble, but appreciate the views and building the clothing rack with my specs.
Version 2.0 add a second offset row on the same size board. Double up on the hanging space without occupying more living space. Otherwise, good shit though
Next time! =] It was pretty easy to make and Allison still uses it every single day. Are there any other pieces like this you would like to see us build? happy to figure it out for you and make a How-To video
Hey loves, I just posted a similar DIY on my channel where I give all the prices and everything. I'll leave the link here in case you're interested: ruclips.net/video/M7lMRInBBQg/видео.html 💕

Thank you for listing the exact pieces you got! A lot of DIY channels don't do that and it's really frustrating!
Not a problem. We don't like that either =)

Thank you very much! We tried to be very detailed so people could follow along. We love ours
Hi there! I was wondering if it would be sturdy enough for a small attic space if I just use the flanges as the base w/o the wood or wheels? Thanks!
That looks awesome and so sturdy!! I know what my husband's weekend project is going to be!!!
We still use it every day. love it =)

will do :)

Fantastic job River, looks amazing!
Thank Riv. Great video. Keep up the great work.
hi Riv can you write the sides/measurements from the plywood please because I tried to click the link but I keep getting an error. THANKS

Haha, yeah sometimes you gotta do it for the Vlog!
My clothes rack is finally finished - thank you Riv. 😀👍 it cost me $145 AUD. (I haven't painted it yet.)
Thank you, that what I needed, I'm going to see if my can makes me one, good job what you did, cool 😎
love the video perfect just what I was looking for and superbly explained
Thank you!

Riv and Al thank you for replying! Subscribed on your channel. 👍🏻 Another question though, are there flanges for plastic pvcs? Thank you! 😊
+Maica De Guzman thank you! Glad to have you. Plastic pvc will not have flanges, but you could use the style in the link in my previous comment where it just uses elbows 😊
Riv and Al thank you for your suggestions! ❤️ Will definitely try this. 😁 Hoping to see more easy diy furnitures in the future.
Fill the vertical PVC pipes with sand. It will add a lot of strength.
I’m going to round my corners , mount all the way through add second bar . Tee out base both sides . Wheels look like they will scratch floors.
Thanks simple and very detailed
Wow I’m amazed but I’m not too handy with tools. Paint brush yes but other than that I would love to make one I need one thanks for the video
My only suggestion is to round the corners Of the wood, as they could be sharp. I really like this design though!

AH, great question! It's ~4ftx2.5ft. Hope that helps! General rule I use, the higher, the wider. For support. =]
Loved the video! Your so knowledgeable !! Going to home depot to make mine now :)
👍Terrific 💝
wow..it's awesome..love it..I am gonna try too..thanks for uploading the video
Our pleasure! have fun! =)
Plywood is about 38" x 24" from visual & parts list
Hi River,
I'm curious about the length of the horizontal bar? Is it long enough to fit about 40 shirts? :)
Funny enough, I actually just counted my wife’s shirts on the rack now and there were 39! Had a little room to spare too.
Riv and Al That's good to know because I'm half way through building my own clothing rack.

I made mine wider 50' which should be enough for 40+ shirts and other stuff.
Thanks again. 😊👍
Might use a pool noodle or two to cover the corners if you choose not to round them off
Hi I had a question how much did it cost you to make this ? (:
Depending on how 'fancy' you want to get or some of the 'upgrades' as i called this in the video, it should cost you between $50-$75, maybe less.
+River Karaba okay thank you !
How sturdy is it ? Thanks.
We fill it with sweaters and coats, typically. We still have and use this every day. Let us know if you have any questions!
I love Ur vid!!!!!!
Thank you! =)
u deserve more subs
Thank you! Please share this video and our channel to help us grow. More people just need to see us =)
I sure will😊
well done
+sidra sidra Thank you!
Are the steel flanges supposed to be .5 in diameter
Check the description of this video, but I believe they are 1"
All I can think of while watching this video is Regina Filangee from Friends lol. It is a FLANGE not a FILANGEE. Other than that, a decent job done
This is actually half inch plywood. Your link calls for quarter inch. Back to the store I go 😁
Hi Chandi, My apologies. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The link has been replaced with the proper. I sincerely apologies for your trouble, but appreciate the views and building the clothing rack with my specs.
Who else wanted ride on those roller things at the beginning
😂😂🙌
Thanks for clear instructions but how about shopping local and not dropping the Home Depot name so much?
Totally agree! If you have local options, we always prefer it as well =)
Home Depot is local. So are Lowes and Wal-mart.
The one I got on Amazon is very weak, wobbly, and cost more than these materials!
Even casters! Cool!
Version 2.0 add a second offset row on the same size board. Double up on the hanging space without occupying more living space. Otherwise, good shit though
now THERE is an interesting idea! I like it. Thank you!
It’s not Flangee. It’s flange. The e is silent.
I can do that w less tools
Omg I wish I knew this diy before I got mine from IKEA aaaaaaaaaaaaaa :'(
Next time! =] It was pretty easy to make and Allison still uses it every single day. Are there any other pieces like this you would like to see us build? happy to figure it out for you and make a How-To video

The correct pronunciation is "FLANJ" not FLANGEE -
Lame
