    Hello I would have liked to have seen the pruning being done

    Hi, it's me again, why did you prune the branches at 10:26 but not the ones at 10:53? It would have been helpful to know why. Hope you have time to respond. Thanks!!! 😀

    Lantana where I live is considered an annual and I adore them. I grow them in patio pots. Just the thought of them growing into a 4’x5’ bush amazes me!

      My friend in CT grows it as an annual too. They're hummingbird & butterfly magnets! Nell

    Hey JoyUsGarden, very informative. I DIDN'T KNOW Lantanas have a trailing form! Amazing, I want one. Now, for us new gardeners, it would have been helpful to watch you prune your Lantanas, not boring at all. Educational! Please I'd love to see you prune them in a video sometime. Thanks for posting this interesting video....soooo jealous that you get to live in Tuscon and your garden is stunning. I want to live there so bad but all my friends and family is here in hot humid Texas. Oh well. Love your vid!!! Take care.

    Okay, so I watched this entire video and I'm still a little confused. (Sorry, my bad.) We have lantana now that have some dead flowers on them. Do they need to be dead-headed now before the winter rains come. (We live in northern San Diego county). Or, will those dead flowers just fall off? I understand how to shape them, just not sure about the flowers. Also, I've noticed that our carnival lantana plants tend to get crunchy leaves, too. Is that a fungus? It is only on the carnival ones (multi-colored). The white and lavender lantanas never get that crunchy leaf thing that just makes them look ugly. Also, the multi-colored ones also get berries on them. Do we trim off those berries in the spring and winter? Thank you so much. We have no clue how to care for these plants and we have like 10 of them.

    Love your channel, Is there any pruning that should be done after my trailing lantana goes to seed which it's doing right now?

    Hi Nel, can you grow lantana in a pot? I tried last year and they did not servive. I live in Sun City and the sun is very intense. Also how often do you water them? Do you not have coyotes in Tucson? I would be afraid to leave my cat outside. A poor little chihuahua had been attacked and killed in my yard. It was horrible.

      Hi Christine - Yes, lantana grows very well in a pot. Mine are on drip & get watered for 1 1/2 hrs twice a week in the hotter months. There are coyotes around here but I'm always out when my kitties are. My 19 year rarely goes outside. Riley is sitting right next to me on the patio as I'm working on the computer. We have bobcats around too. Nell

    Hi Nell,
    I was wondering whether we Europeans grow a variety of Lantana that is different from yours in the US. My Lantana has a beautiful fragrance that resembles that of a citrus-based perfume.
    On the other hand, that photo in your blogpost seems to show a plant that looks very much like the variety I've had for years. And I agree, Lantana should be a perennial as it gets more beautiful over the years.
    Of course, here in Germany we can grow Lantana as container plants only, because it wouldn't survive the winter cold. But still, it makes a gorgeous appearance on any balcony, patio, or garden.
    Mine is pushing out new growth, but I'm going to keep the plant in my little polytunnel on my balcony until the nights warm up. Nighttime temps at this time of year usually drop to just above freezing, and the plant is none too cold tolerant.
    Thanks for the video and your expertise.
    Best wishes from Berlin to the Arizona desert.
    Marc

      @JoyUsGarden  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Marc - It's the foliage of lantana (for we in the states anyway) which has the fragrance. There are many varieties of lantana on the market now & all bloom like crazy. It's 1 flowering perennial shrub which can stand up to & look good in our intense summer heat & sun. Mine has already started to flower a bit since the pruning. They grow so fast! It's best to keep yours protected until the evenings warm - that new growth can be susceptible. All the best to you in beautiful Berlin from the warm, sunny AZ desert. Nell

    This is a good tutorial if you don't know anything about Lantana, but be aware that you never actually see the gardener pruning the lantana. She discusses it, then shows a before and after picture.

    hi. I am pretty sure I read some where that the berries are only toxic when they arnt fully ripe. when they are black they arnt toxic and people like to make jams from them. maybe you would like to research this?

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Angel - I've heard that all parts of lantana are toxic, as well as only the berries being toxic. I'd need to find a trusted source & get an answer. Nell

    I have a beautiful large lantana in my front yard. I have never ever pruned it. I’ve never touched it... you don’t need to prune it for the flowers to cover it...it’s only mildly toxic to humans... more toxic to cats and dogs.... the berries are okay as long as they’re not green...
