Very cool, some pretty stuff. I do want to add in for the viewers the AAA rule, which you did, but didn't mention, Always Add Acid. AAA to water, not the other way around. If you pour water into acid, it can splash, and may also boil and splatter depending on the acid type. This is not fun.
Thanks for watching, I pinned your comment because it’s all very true and good info. I originally mentioned it before the soak but I cut it out cause my Texan accent was so bad I couldn’t understand what I was saying lol 🤣.
Dude yes, cleaning rocks with acid is just as fun as cutting them in a sense. It’s exposing things you couldn’t see before, and dude that was just cool! I like the choice of rocks brother. And the results. What I like most is the “doin it”. You’re exploring and learning and sharing that experience with everyone. And like everything we learn or witness being exposed with rocks, it just drives our curiosity!!!!! Love watching you experience that Kurt!!
Thanks bro, an your right about being just as fun as cutting. This was the second batch because the first batch of Laguna Lace I was cleaning with acid I forgot to hit the record button so that means I was talking to my self for 9 mins 🤣🤦♂️. Definitely made sure I was recoding this time around. Part of learning is definitely trying things out and experiencing it. Thanks for watching bro. Rock on 🤘
Wow! That worked really well on most of them! And they are beautiful! Thank you for the tutorial! Your tutorial and explanation before and after you soaked them, was really well. Ive seen so many videos lately, about cleaning pet wood, and other rocks lately, and comparing it to iron out, vinegar, and muriatic, and they got no result. But its because they were trying to remove the wrong type of thing with each. So thank you. Great results and i agree that you should re-soak those ones that didnt get fully removed, overnight. And hell yes you need a cutting video of those beauties! my favorite was the little banded agate, but its not done bathing yet! Great video! Awesome explanation of your methods, and great results! Rock on Kurt!
Thanks for your comment, Ive noticed that too with Luther videos lately. I plan on doing similar videos with vinegar and citric acid. I’ll definitely be doing a cutting video of these in the near future, the weather is starting to warm back up so I can cut em. The little Laguna lace one is my favorite and will be making a free form with that one. 🤘
They all look better. You now have to put some of them back in and go to sleep. One or two may take more than a day. Your doing a great job. I like the first one, but any jasper combinations I like. Jaspers are my friends. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy. 😷⚒
thanks to this video i know that the rock i found a few years ago is blue agate :D i found it in the dirt next to a road. i guess someone was done with it or lost the stone before i found it because it was perfectly clean and smooth and this video was very entertaining and cool to see how its done
We enjoyed your video! We are just starting to share our adventures as well. Some beautiful specimens here in the Appalachian mountains... Your videos are inspiring and helpful! Rock on!
Gr8 video kurt. thnx for sharing. I always leave my rocks how I find them when I collect them(i do use some soapy water) but you sparked my curiosity. Happy hunting.
Thanks 😊 I’m normally the same way but sometimes you gotta use acid 😜. Make sure to check out Kens comment that I pinned. He mentioned some helpful tips that I forgot to mention. Have a great day 🤘
Such a small world...I found a bunch of pieces of that "bangs canyon agate" in bangs canyon. They might be called red botryoidal agate/jasper/chalcedony. Still waiting to get more answers on my Facebook rockhounding groups. I was curious how to clean them without destroying them. I was led to muriatic acid. Then I google searched how to use the acid to clean agate and your video was the first to come up. Then I was shocked to see the same material I'm trying to clean from the same location! I'm in G.J. thanks for the info. I'll be soaking mine tomorrow!
That’s such a funny story..lol. Hope this video helps. I’ve tried figuring out if there was a specific name for these since they look quite different then most agates found in the area. If you find out please let me know. You may try checking out the Gem and Minerals Club there in Grand Junction.
Thanks for the info, I knew it was a type made up of calcium but coursing remember the proper term. Have a great day 🤘. Also if you haven’t already make sure to check out my most recent video and enter in the giveaway
It will if you don’t add water and just use straight Muriatic acid, it also depends on what other minerals are with the agate or jasper. When diluted with water the agates/ jaspers clean up real nice.
Don’t use acid on opals, I’d use a water pick or water dental flosser. The high pressure water should help remove the clay and leave the opals unharmed
Sorry if I didn’t include that part. When your done with the acid water you want to add baking soda to denaturalize the acid then you can pour it out outside after about 10 mins.
This should work on any type of agate. If you want to send me a email or message on Facebook with pictures of what your wanting to clean off I can help best I can.
Ya everyone knows what soda ash is. One is general knowledge and easily accessible. You're comment has little thought put into it, opposite of how you probably felt.
Hey bud. Not sure how far this was, or you are, into your channel, but good info. One thing though incase ya didn't notice, but ypu said "uh" or "umm" I believe it was for a grand total of 406,892 times, and at one point, you literally got 10 out, in under 12 seconds. Lmao Just having a go at ya buddy. Just remember this when speaking. ~ Filler words only muddy the water and clutter everything, as well as makes one sound unsure of what they say and unsure of themselves.~ If you don't have the sentence set to release, just pause and let the silence have its place. Silence is always better than filler words. Good luck. Sincerely, your new sub that probably looks like an a$$hole
Uh.. Hi Bob. Thanks for the umm umm.. tips 😅. Lol I did catch that. Some days are better then others but I have a stuttering impairment from a traumatic dog attack when I was younger. On a bad day I sound like this which drives me crazy cause it makes me sound unsure and uneducated. As I’m editing more and more I’m picking up on these and try to edit them out. Anyway way I appreciate your help even if your just going at me 😜😂. Thanks for watching and support. Rock on brotha 🤘🤙

@@RockHoundingAdventures Thanks Ken!
Thanks for the clarification. I'm just learning about different ways to clean up rocks and what not to do. Thanks for sharing that!
Just starting out with rock hounding, loved your video. Southeast Missouri here😊
I can still hear my 8th grade science teachers little jingle that he developed " do as you oughta pour acid into water..."

Thank you! I have dozens of rocks to clean and your video has been the most informative for me and easy to do 😊
I’m glad it has helped. 😁

Definitely took about 30 hours for those two to fully soak. Will be cutting these all up soon. Thanks for watching and safe travels bud 🤘
Cool experiment! I definitely recommend at least an overnight soak if not 24 hours for optimal results.
Totally agree Brotha. 🤘
I agree with you very much so definitely! I did experimental on the crystal rock but it's works amazingly that!❤
That one at 14:00 would be a really interesting cut. We'd love to see it. Rock on!
I will definitely be cutting these soon. I’m really curious to see what’s inside. 🤘😜
I’m in GJ too so it’s awesome to see someone do it with the same rocks in finding
Thats awesome. Thanks

I’m glad this video was helpful and you enjoyed it. That sounds like an awesome agate you found. Hope you have a Rockin Week.
Thanks for the tutorial nice to see the before and after shots of the rocks. I haven’t tried Muriatic acid yet, but may give it a try in the future.😊
Glad you enjoy it. It’s fun to use just be careful and use safety gear. Make sure to your 3x as much water as you do acid to balance it. 🤘
Nice, I was just referred to try this, after giving vinegar a go and it didn't do much. Really appreciate this video, thanks!
Definitely try it out, and make sure to check out Kens comment that I pinned. He shared other helpful info

Those are amazing!!!!
Thanks
I go full strength with muriatic 🤪
I’ve done that before and by doing so I ruined some YellowCat 😬. Always fun to experiment though 😜🤘🍻
Thanks Kurt 😃 definitely going to give this a try. Cheers 👍
Hope it works well for you

Alot of the material covering for agates is called caliche. It is used alot in Texas for road covering.

I haven’t used this type of acid before but your video definitely makes me want to get some! Do you have an affiliate link for Amazon I could use?
It really does help clean up agates and jaspers. Thanks for watching and here is a affiliate link for Amazon.

How do you dispose of the acid???
Hola saludos compañero muy limpias quedaron. 👍👍👍👍

Yes cut these. Im new to your channel
cool, Kurt
Thanks
Nice!
😁
I wish you had shown how you neutralized and disposed of the acid afterward.
Pour baking soda in to neutralize then you can pour it out on the ground outside.
I’ll be making a new video soon of this and other methods
Soda ash works better for neutralization

stop diluting acid thats already diluted
If you don’t dilute it’s to strong and can damage your specimens. I know from experience.
Ummmm......
?
