+LJ808 I think it's because you know for a fact that you're laughing on your own, rather than being encouraged by the audience to do so. Or maybe it's intensified because you know it's a good joke yet still don't hear anyone laughing? It is inherently different, I love it. Letterman has a mono like this somewhere on RUclips if I'm not mistaken, same reason.

This is the most I ever laughed at his monologue.
This is the one time you get to hear the intro and opening theme perfectly. I always hated the sound was mixed to the point where the audience almost entirely drowned out Higgins and The Roots.
