My understanding was that the rule of two was ment as a strategy to defeat the jedi , abandoning it afterwards or having dark side adepts like inquisitorrs made sense, like two senior sith , a master and grand master of the sith like the jedi , ( yoda and windu) an army of dark side knights, obviously not as powerful as the masters makes sense.
That’s what Palpatine would have told Dooku, but in reality Darth Bane and all true sith lords following him meant it to be forever, as Darth Bane found that power in the Dark side reaches it’s peak when concentrated within less individuals rather than spread out among multiple dark side users. No true Sith lord would want an army of Sith because that would mean letting go of power which a true sith would never do. Some exceptions are made for low level dark side agents like Asajj or the inquisitors, but they were never true sith who could pull power away from its true masters.
It was created so the sith don't destroy themselves. In the book Darth Bane Path of destruction the Brotherhood of sith were never at full power because of to much infighting. Actually in Kotor 2 Kriea even says "as all sith do without a strong opponent they turned on each other" So really the rule of two had nothing to do with defeating the Jedi but rather was a tactical move so the ways of the sith could survive. What Bane did to combat the Jedi was change their ways of fighting. Instead of big battles the scorched planets they would fight from the shadows. That is a big reason why the Jedi fall in the prequels. They thought it would go down how it did 1,000 years prior. So they also thought that winning the clones wars was the best way to defeat the sith and didn't realize until it was to late that they had been caught in a trap. The Sith adapted how they fought with the rule of two being used to keep the sith ways. While i do love the idea of the inquisitors being used to hunt Jedi, it would stand to reason that they are not true sith which is why non have the title of Darth.
The reason for the rule of two wasn’t simply a revenge tactic. Bane observed that the Sith were just fighting amongst themselves. Killing each other off out of jealousy, greed and lust for power. Bane saw this left the Sith Order vulnerable to the Jedi. Thus: he instituted the rule of two. Because in his mind, the Force was venom, not fire. There should be one master to hold the power, and one apprentice to crave it.
Dooku always strived to be a teacher. He would attempt to teach even if the other was his opponent. he believes he would teach new students. He only wished to do so without the Jedi interference. He wasn't able to understand palpatine never wanted anything substantial or substitute to Jedi on any level. Palpatine wanted actual control. Not discipline as dooku thought.
Basically Darth Tyrannus fell into the same trap as Darth Plagueis when he was alive. As he believed the Rule of Two had come to an end with him as he would achieve immortality for himself and his apprentice Darth Sidious and rule the galaxy together as equals. That lead Plagueis to his death in his sleep via being tortured by Sidious. Ironically while Dooku wasn't afraid of Anakin, Plagueis was because he knew that he was responsible for Anakin's birth when he tried to create a Force Sensitive being of his own with the Midi-Chlorians. But instead the Force fleed from him and made Shmi Skywalker pregnant with The Chosen One through the Midi-Chlorians. All while Palpatine was on Coruscant working on his political skills so he had no idea that Anakin was a representation of the Force striking back at the Sith.
Didn’t Dooku ask obi wan to join him in overthrowing the Sith Lord in episode two ?!? Seems like he did think of betraying sidious with help but at the same time walked the line with the emperor. And dooku was definitely unique.. he walked both the light and dark path hence no sith eyes .. Jedi we’re corrupt… Plus at the time dooku could have definitely killed anakin at any point during the clone wars .. Yerp
@stupendouswave. You're content is so immersive and it's something to think on. Your videos should be a cannon and legend series in some sense. Thank you for your hard work on every video. Thebackround music is so fire.
Remember dooku was not fully nor inherently evil. He was never even close to being fully submerged in the dark. His very morality and honour would never allow it.
I feel like Count Dooku's aspirations where so much more grand as well as dangerous than Sidious and the galaxy is lucky Sidious's plan came to fruition
Nice video. I share most the ideas you conveyed. But as you sum it and I think that was both parties major flaw, both Dooku and the Jedi Order, basically everybody but Sidious, underestimated greatly Anakin - which led, in opposite ways, to their fall. Cheers.
Fun video as always but kind of nonsense that dooku would know that Anakin was being prepared to be his replacement, maybe as a challenge he could've accepted that, but thinking that both could cohexist is nonsense.. only 2 sith could exist simultaneously in theory, that's why Palpatine oredered him to get rid of Ventress.. so he knew an army of sith was never going to exist, keep rocking and stay safe
Dooku did not underestimate Anakin Skywalker" The Order knew Anakin is The Chosen One to bring balance to The Force "inspired" by his instinctive grasp of The Force In Motion. This also inspired Count Dooku. Such that Dooku knew" that even his former master had to meditate to focus on The Force In Motion. Anakin Skywalker is" The Force In Motion. But" this is not clear to Yoda, -however Yoda reasoned" that an instinctive grasp of The Force In Motion is paramount to fulfilling The Prophecy. Not discounting all they have witnessed- "The Order agreed with The Grand Master". Dooku had watched Anakin" just as The Order did. But" Dooku did so -as a dignitary of Chancellor Palpatine's administration. After all" -he is The Count. 🌈🤓
His "wife" Zulima couldn't even remember the date of the day she married him. Her reasoning for committing contempt was she wanted to hear what Brandon was saying due to the upcoming custody hearing. I shudder to think what would have happened to her kids that were rated dark if Brandon had died. And interesting enough, one of the kids rated dark was one that had been particularly close to JJ. If Melanie skips away scot free it will just be an example of the gross negligence on behalf of law enforcement, who if not for Kay looking for JJ, would not have gotten any justice for Tammy.
Or if we just go by what is portrayed in the movie, thrice the pride tripple the fall might have been at work. Also, he had been instrumental to Sidious´ work for 13 years, there was no way he could tell when the backstab would come. Or if it would come at all. At the time of his death he rather saw himself as Sidious´ equal, it was only at the final moment that he realized how wrong he had been. I´m really glad that Christopher Lee convinced George that Dooku shouldn´t plead for mercy, it wouldn´t have fitted neither his voice nor the character. I don´t think it fits any sith, not Maul either, even though his brother had just been slain and he was being tortured. Lee´s expression tells us all we need to know, Dooku was simply so shocked by the treachery of Sidious that he couldn´t find any words.
Dooku thought that he was "indispensable". But I have a quote that often runs through my head, when I get full of myself. "Indispensable people. Cemeteries are full of them."
Dooku didn’t know he just a tool to get to Darth king lord plagues son ….plagues in the end wanted a younger body of himself to transfer his soul to his younger body plagues lives dooku just enforced a tool of plagues plan to live forever only few have king live king plagues
Had Palpatine kept Dooku alive, recruited Maul and Oppress back to the fold instead of slaying Savage and defeating Maul, and treated Anakin as a potential alley instead of a symbolic deterrent, and trained the Inquisitors as actual Sith Generals to boot, that would have been the start of one fierce Army. He was the greatest Sith Lord to date, but had his paranoia was a flaw that cost him.
Then Savage would be enraged that Dooku treated him as shit. Dooku would want Maul's head for killing Qui-gon. Anakin would want revenge on Dooku for taking his arm. The Inquisitors would be plotting against the others because they would dislike to be second grade sith. And of course, all of them would start to question one day why they follow this asshole on the top. If Anakin and Dooku would team up for example, they would beat the shit out of Sidious. There is a reason why the rule of two was created. In legends, in the Old Republic era for example, the sith were just as busy killing each other during wars as they were to kill jedi. They did not think of themsleves as a part of some grand order, all of them had visions, goals and schemes, and they were willing to put their Empire behind these goals in priority. The rule of two simplified the playing field. Thougth it is amazing that they somehow did not die out with just two of them existing- a simple ship crash would have ended their grand plan.
So, then why did things play out the way they did? We can wonder forever how much foreknowledge Sidious had; whether he knew Vader would come back from Mustafar less than he had been; broken and weakened, but both Legends and Canon Palpatine have demonstrated a certain willingness to bend, or outright ignore, even the rules of the Sith. In this way, Dooku still could have been useful, yet Palpatine had him get killed. I do understand it; he wanted to push Anakin into doing wrong, so that later he'd think about it when Windu was planning to do the same to Sidious, but Dooku could have been useful, and Palpatine did need more servants than just Vader...especially after Vader became different. Sure, hindsight is 20/20, bur I bet he wished he still had Dooku on hand when Vader was reduced, and they could no longer (for some reason) form a dyad. Oh well.
I wouldn't be surprised some dark lords of the sith actually fled went into permanent exile when they felt their apprentice was getting strong enough to over throw them.
Dooku is an idiot. I'll never, ever understand why so many people in the SW universe think it's a good idea to trust Palpatine. He's one of the most obviously evil characters ever even before he becomes Emperor.
That just shows how much of a mastermind and manipulative person palpatine was. That doesn’t make Dooku an idiot it makes him a victim. The entire jedi order were fooled by this man. Hell the entire galaxy was fooled by this man. Truely a mastermind of evil
Lol no it wasn’t. By the time Vader hit his prime he was unmatched by anyone, including Sidious. Sidious might have had more knowledge but Vader honed his powers. Only difference between Vader and Dooku was Dooku was more charismatic.
I still want to see prime Google versus prime Anakin Skywalker in his twenties before he became Vader his biggest potential was right there cuz we already know if Anakin got to his full potential you ain't stopping him

I don’t think I’d call dooku “one of the most powerful dark siders ever”. That’s a pretty difficult list to make right? Certainly an incredible duelist tho.
Seeing Count dooku as badass Villain he uses force lighting alot every time he fights an enemy similar to Palpatine instead of force choking people like Darth vader does🐈⬛🐈⬛.
I think Dooku was an absolute fool if he thought like that. As a Jedi he should have a strong reason not to trust the Sith, and yet he got absolutely played.
I assumed Dooku would have wanted Anakin to become his apprentice and overthrow Sidious. I don’t believe Dooku ever respected Sidious. There were times where he bested Anankin and could have easily killed him. Anakin is much stronger in the force but Dooku was far more skilled dualist & thought things through. Anakin was brash & hot tempered & never thought things through as much as he should where Darth Vader was the complete opposite. Vader was always 10 steps ahead of his Adversaries, hell he probably could eventually overthrown Sidious he was so calculated in every move he made. Dooku’s arrogance got the best of him.
Nah the rule of 2 stands.. Palpatine knew and dooku should have known. The paranoia Sideous had was a tell all. Dooku and anakin would have usurped him.
I always took it as someone who had dozens of years of more experience looking down at a young up-start, basically a very rube boomer looking down at a millennial or Gen Z-er because they haven't seen what he's seen and considers them a weaker generation. But in the end, it's the younger generations that proved to be stronger; not by iron and blood, but by activism and the will to change things for the better. Take this however you like; good, bad, whatever, I'm curious about what ya'll have to say about this mess of a comment I made.
Dooku was a badass but not even close to being one if the most powerful Sith he wasn't even in the top 15 Sith lords. he was a epic dualist but he couldn't stand for to toe with the dark Lord of the old republic. Darth revan, Darth sion and Darth magus just to name a few would have made dooku there bitch but maybe I miss years what you said
Imagine if Dooku got away at the last min at the beginning of Episode 1. The story could be that Sidious goes ahead with turning Anakin into his apprentice as Darth Vader and unleashes Order 66, but Dooku returns with Darth Maul (still upset with Sidious killing his brother) as his new Apprentice. The 2 of them would combat Sidious and Anakin (who in this version wouldn't get injured or deformed after fighting Yoda and Obi-Wan), for the right to rule the new empire!
Makes sense. Dooku always saw himself as more important than he actually was. Arrogance was his weakness.
Arrogant in his approach yet not selfish enough to be a Sith Master.
The rule of two was invented to stop the infighting amongst the sith. They were always betraying each other trying to claim power.
That’s what Palpatine would have told Dooku, but in reality Darth Bane and all true sith lords following him meant it to be forever, as Darth Bane found that power in the Dark side reaches it’s peak when concentrated within less individuals rather than spread out among multiple dark side users. Anyone else gonna comment and paraphrase what was said in the previous comment, cause we do get it by now.
Dooku always strived to be a teacher. He would attempt to teach even if the other was his opponent. he believes he would teach new students. He only wished to do so without the Jedi interference.

It's a shame he never head the saying "double the pride double the fall" could have saved his butt
We saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When Anakin took his head without pain
And so then we knew
With the death of Dooku
Lil Ani'd never be the saaaaaame
I can't wait until Tails of The Jedi realeses. It is gonna finally on screen flesh out Dookus back story.
Whats this?
A series of 6 shorts about Dooku and Ashoka coming this fall
It's tales. Not tails.
@@cadeshanley218 no he's right, it's tails. It's about their secret tails. All Jedi are secretly cats.
😂typo lmao
Dooku looked pretty scared to me when Anakin cut his hands off and was kneeling in front of him about to get his head separated from his shoulders.
Didn’t Dooku ask obi wan to join him in overthrowing the Sith Lord in episode two ?!? Seems like he did think of betraying sidious with help but at the same time walked the line with the emperor.

Dooku was a huge fool for falling for all of Palpatine's lies.
Remember dooku was not fully nor inherently evil. He was never even close to being fully submerged in the dark. His very morality and honour would never allow it.
Wow. Well... Now that's the second reason why Dooku was and is AWESOME CHARACTER in Star Wars. Nice
Great video! I read about much of this in the novelization of Episode 3.
Cheers.
He was a tool to get to anakin for a younger body of plagues to clone himself
After hearing this, i have lost so much respect for Dooku. In the end, he was just as arrogant and blind as the jedi order he left.
I feel like dooku would train sith with both the light and dark side of the force
I think cause Tyranous wasn’t anything more than a dissenter of the jedis current static and dogmatic rule.
Dooku did not underestimate Anakin Skywalker" The Order knew Anakin is The Chosen One to bring balance to The Force "inspired" by his instinctive grasp of The Force In Motion.

Sidious: I don’t share. To me it’s all or nothing and next to me count your nothing
I always liked Count dooku,s lightsaber from Star wars it looks curved and very thin similar to a Rapier sword from the 16th centuries⚔⚔.
His "wife" Zulima couldn't even remember the date of the day she married him. Her reasoning for committing contempt was she wanted to hear what Brandon was saying due to the upcoming custody hearing. This line of thought would also explain why Dooku tried to turn Obi Wan on Geonosis during attack of the clones.
Love your videos though I'm surprised at your lack of Yuuzahn Vong content. Hope to see some of that one day

What if they all turn on him at once? Even as powerful as Palpatine, he wouldn't survive that. That's too risky for his new empire.

The sith Triumvirate. Sid couldve used House Corinnos wealth for sure
Palpatine likely studied Dooku well, and knew how subtle and indirect was necessary to manipulate him, so it makes sense.
Your overconfidence is your weakness
Im a dinosaur! MOOOOOOOO¡
Dooku forgot to read the Sith manual.
If Palpatine was as good at reining in his own pride as he was good at exploiting others, he'd have truly been unstoppable
Have you heard the Tragedy of Darth Tyranus the Foolish?
Make this a what if they made a superior order dooku anakin and palpatine
He really should've seen it coming
What song is that playing at the end of the video?
Dooku is an idiot.
I'll never, ever understand why so many people in the SW universe think it's a good idea to trust Palpatine.
He's one of the most obviously evil characters ever even before he becomes Emperor.
That just shows how much of a mastermind and manipulative person palpatine was. That doesn’t make Dooku an idiot it makes him a victim. The entire jedi order were fooled by this man. Hell the entire galaxy was fooled by this man. Truely a mastermind of evil
What if Dooku killed Anakin who would been be second choice for Darth Sidious Apprentice
I mean who can ever really say they know what sidious was planning? No one can know that for sure, not even dooku
I actually think duku would have made a better sith lord for the empire. His control iand manipulation was far better than Darth Vader
Lol no it wasn’t. By the time Vader hit his prime he was unmatched by anyone, including Sidious. Sidious might have had more knowledge but Vader honed his powers. Only difference between Vader and Dooku was Dooku was more charismatic.
Basically.... Congratulations.... You played yourself, Count Dooku....
Dooku believed in the prophecy as did every other Sith and Jedi in the know hell even palpatine himself believed
Ok so why was dooku ready to kill anakin on geonosis with kenobi and amadala if he was trying to keep anankin alive?
I still want to see prime Google versus prime Anakin Skywalker in his twenties before he became Vader his biggest potential was right there cuz we already know if Anakin got to his full potential you ain't stopping him
Love your vidsss
So Awesome
Dooku beat anakin before so pride clouded dooku's mind
What if Anakin asked Dooku to teach him?
Then Anakin would never have ended up in that suit and his wife would have survived.
You could almost forgive Dooku's ignorance, but Vader should have known better. Yet he was still caught flat footed when he himself was on the same receiving end.
Oh Tyrannus…that is why you failed
Dooku is that coworker who thinks he has such great ideas and is irreplaceable so his ego dies when he learns the truth.
Dooku was right in one regard there were multiple dark siders. The inquisitors
Dooku was dumb af
I don’t think I’d call dooku “one of the most powerful dark siders ever”. That’s a pretty difficult list to make right? Certainly an incredible duelist tho.
Dooku diluted himself in which is what ultimately cost him his life.
Seeing Count dooku as badass Villain he uses force lighting alot every time he fights an enemy similar to Palpatine instead of force choking people like Darth vader does🐈⬛🐈⬛.
Count dooku has always been a powerful sith similar to Darth vader expect he has force lighting and a curved Lightsaber rare for some siths🗡🗡.
I think Dooku was an absolute fool if he thought like that. As a Jedi he should have a strong reason not to trust the Sith, and yet he got absolutely played.
The ancient Sith probably already loved Dooku
I assumed Dooku would have wanted Anakin to become his apprentice and overthrow Sidious. I don’t believe Dooku ever respected Sidious. There were times where he bested Anankin and could have easily killed him. Anakin is much stronger in the force but Dooku was far more skilled dualist & thought things through. Vader was always 10 steps ahead of his Adversaries, hell he probably could eventually overthrown Sidious he was so calculated in every move he made. Dooku’s arrogance got the best of him.
Lol anyone that believed a single word that Sidious said was a fool
One word...Hubris
Dookus biggest mistake was thinking the word *equal* existed in the sith language 🤦🏻
If you only knew the power of the dark side
Gibber gabber
Nah the rule of 2 stands.. Palpatine knew and dooku should have known. The paranoia Sideous had was a tell all. Dooku and anakin would have usurped him.
Deep down..everyone believes they're 'the chosen one'.... it's human egocentrism 🤷🏻♂️
What if the god of mortis trained anakin skywalker
NNNNNNOOOOOOO
I always took it as someone who had dozens of years of more experience looking down at a young up-start, basically a very rube boomer looking down at a millennial or Gen Z-er because they haven't seen what he's seen and considers them a weaker generation. But in the end, it's the younger generations that proved to be stronger; not by iron and blood, but by activism and the will to change things for the better.
Take this however you like; good, bad, whatever, I'm curious about what ya'll have to say about this mess of a comment I made.
What if Dooku died during the Battle of Geonosis?
Movie would've sucked bantha balls, Christopher Lee is so badass and OG
Plagueis would have been a better master to Dooku than Palpatine.
Dooku was a badass but not even close to being one if the most powerful Sith he wasn't even in the top 15 Sith lords. he was a epic dualist but he couldn't stand for to toe with the dark Lord of the old republic. Darth revan, Darth sion and Darth magus just to name a few would have made dooku there bitch but maybe I miss years what you said
Stupendous Wave,
Can you please confirm that I won a prize?
Hi
Would Dooku’s Galactic Empire be full of battle droids?
He hated droids and like the other responder said he wanted to create a Sith army and a new sith order
