Had a macular hole repaired 5 weeks ago now, went with general anaesthetic, ended up with throat infection from that which just added more aggravation with recovery (would not do that again). First follow up a week and a half later showed hole repairing and had stitches removed from eye that I didn’t even know where in there, since then continual dry eye issues, light sensitivity, blurred vision, pain unable to work drive etc, next follow up in a week and hopefully will get answers on what’s going on.

@@Antony_Shamarjit_Lee the eye healed about 8 weeks later, the eye I had repaired now just over 12 months later still has distorted vision and I have been told it's as good as it will get, so unfortunately was not a complete success for me, the side effects with treated eye are occasional dry eye and the lens in my eye is a fixed long range so no close focus ability, it is good enough to allow driving and I can watch TV although I need glasses, but vision is better than what it was pre surgery so still worth doing.

That’s pretty much my experience. My vision isn’t much better after the vitrectomy. I pray nothing happens to my other eye.

Would you address a silicone oil surgery and the differences between that and the gas bubble surgery? Does the size or length of time a patient has had a hole determine which surgery is necessary and what is the the success rate for improved vision for each? Is it necessary to close a macular hole once diagnosed and what happens if left untreated? Thank you
