Very nice indeed. We were there this past August and drove through Gotthard, Furka, Grimsel, and Sussten passes Coming from Florence to Lucerne. We stopped at several times and took pictures. Somewhere along Grimsel pass we pulled over to hike and played snowball fight with that left over ice slush that was on the ground. That drive through the Alps was our favorite part of our European trip. When we go back I'm going to make that trip again.
Drove there almost 2 weeks ago, there was 5 km Traffic jam in front of the tunnel. So we took the secondary road , drove through Airolo and then up the pas. We had really nice wheater , and the snow was as high as in this video. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the top, when there is not much traffic. We stayed the night in Hospental, a small town at 1500 meters above sealevel.
I mistakenly drove on this road on my way to Heidelberg Germany one evening , rather than going through the Gotthard tunnel in October 1995. It began snowing which made the ride increasingly dangerous. in understand this road is closed from late October to April. I made sure to take Gotthard tunnel on the return.
Today it's easy to drive this road with car directly, when you think how people goes over these mountains by horses or feet for hundred of years. That must be very hard and dangerous..

Gibt es nicht noch eine ältere Strecke über den Gotthardpass? Ich dachte immer, dass ich schon mal eine noch kurvenreichere Strecke gefahren wäre ohne derart viele Tunnels. Gibt es die nicht mehr?
@@nils169 Allenfalls bin ich mal eine Strasse von Airolo her bergauf gefahren, die mit Pflastersteinen belegt war und etliche Haarnadelkurven am Berghang beschrieb - oberhalb der Waldgrenze. Muss sie das dann gewesen sein?
Trucks are allowed to drive there. Sometimes the tunnel get shut down and you have to drive over the pass. In winter the pass is closed because of snow.
A beautiful drive ruined by playing the tape back too fast. You drive like a commuter! Almost hit 2 bicyclists by speeding thru a road work zone.... At the roundabouts I thought you were going to go straight thru by gassing it and jumping them! Thankfully you couldn't ruin the beauty of the Trip. But you ruined The Ride for me! Slow Down next time and I will give you top marks! :)

Those are some tight turns at 13 mins. Not to mention for trucks.
I think trucks and caravans can't take the pass but have to use the tunnel instead.
