I'm so angry Donna Lewis filed a copyright complaint and JoJo had to remove the video. It's because Donna didn't have writing credit and JoJo sampled part of her song. What a wench.
Its happens. Music artists should check about not only about sampling issues but copyright issues. Cause a sample can be cleared to use. But the problem comes in with the copyright issues comes into play and older music can sue over that too. Plus its always a good idea to give credit when copright issues become a problem
+Kyle Zurk Well people can quit stealing and using other people's works without proper permissions. This doesn't fall into fair use, it is not ok for her to have used it.

Joanna Levesque is a songwriter who performs with name Jojo. I hear in comments that some £¥%# other so called "artist" owns some short sentence. Why some artists are so selfish and jealous for people. Jojo have a cover that Africa song too and I didn't even know it before I heard it from Jojo and personally I like it more. It also bring me to knowledge that there was some classic africa song so I think covers are a good thing, but this is far from cover because Jojo have her own twist and style and well lyrics, beat, dancing, you name it man..
I mean i like jojo more than the insipirations where she gets ideas. People need insipirations. You cannot live in a barrel. Only who claims to do this is Ozzy Osborne but I think he's lying. He must have inspiration like we all human beings but he sure does have pretty unique songs
Damn she deliberately just used the hell out of the bridge to Donna Lewis song lol I thought there was a law that protects the artist as long as they sing it physically it doesn't count as an actual sample but an interpolation
Elliott Teasley You still have to get permission / clearance. It was obviously a tribute on JoJo's behalf. Since Donna gave permission to other artists in the past to use it (Betty Who, etc.) I don't see why she wouldn't give permission for JoJo to use it in this.
Artists use samples all the time. Granted I don’t see why artists sing other people’s songs with no real connection to the song , but in this Jojo has put a creative spin on the song. It doesn’t take away from the Donna Lewis song.
Donna's version is better. But hey I've only been a singer, pianist and musician, creating all kinds of electronic and instrumental music, for 25 years so what do I know?
