When lockdown started i turned to cycling as my means to keep fit and get out of the house. Bikes have changed a lot in the 30-odd years since i last rode! Finding this channel really helped me understand what needed to get the most from my time on the bike, whilst also introducing me to a raft of new 'lockdown friends'! I would love the Garmin head unit as i still dont have one, and it only a matter of time until i drop my phone while trying to check the route out! Keep up the excellent videos

Adding a speaker to my bike setup had been my favorite addition by far. I would like the Garmin as I want to recomend the Bose Microsoundlink as an amazing speaker for bikes. Its got a great punchy sound, straps perfectly on the handlebars and is 100% waterproof (I complely submerged mine when it was playing by falling out a of a kayak and it was fine!) Speakers are less dangourous than headphones and I often listen to podcasts or audiobooks on long tours

Hi Francis, loving the videos. I have been a long-time supporter of the backpacking trips such as Vietnam, and would really like to do something like that one day. I would Love the Garmin as I'm attempting my first ride abroad in the summer to Paris from the UK. The ride will help to raise money for the charities Mind and The Alzheimers Society. Currently, I use Komoot on my phone so it would be nice to have something that shows me where I'm going at all times without having to stop, especially when riding outside the UK.
Keep up the great work with the Channel and Wild.
    Kind regards,
    Will

Would love the Garmin since about two months ago i was hit by a vehicle and lost bicycle and all my components. I have just got a bike literally two days ago and have finally started riding again but as we all cyclist know. Things are expensive. So this would greatly assist me getting back to getting on the saddle and getting those miles! Good Luck Everyone!

The Garmin 830 would be an excellent addition to my arsenal of early morning safety/navigation/data collecting/training ride computer set up. Being a father of 3 little kids, working full time, and trying to be the best husband I can, it leaves the wee hours in the morning before the sun comes up for training. My current set up is quite antiquated and a hodge podge of lights, computers, sensors and more. The efficiency that the Garmin 830, paired with the Varia, would be the stuff of legends. Not only will it be the dream training tool, but get me home safely. Thanks for giving one of these away!! Keep Living The Dream (#LTD). Appreciate it!!

I love exploring with my bike and getting lost especially here in Cape Town but also far away. Having a GPS allows me to get more lost and then find my way back home while having an absolute blast. Since my Wahoo just stopped working and there is no support (not even for a repair) to get it up and running again, its time to give a Garmin a go. And the 830 looks like it will make exploring such a joy again!
Thanks for your fantastic content Francis! Happy riding!

Hey Francis, been a long term subscriber and you've unspired me to start bikepacking. i was at tour down under when you visied the Rapha club house looking very cooked from the South Aussie Heat. I've just completed my MBA this monring and the plan was to emulate your Vietnam trip as a celebration, but COVID put a stop to that. In two weeks heading out on an Aussie bush bash bike packing trip and just purchased the seatpost extender to make the brand spanking new tailfin fit more comfortably. thank you to you, Daisy and all your friends for inspiring me to get out and get adventurous. The garmin would be a great additon to the setup, regardless keep up the great work!!

Hey Francis, lovely to see you two back on the road again! Spain, the mountains, the coast, everything looks so beautiful, especially on the bike - as I can only imagine, cause I’ve never been to Spain yet.
I’m covering your channel only 3-4 months now! You’re one of the persons that inspired me to get into road cycling but bike packing mainly. I’m riding my Rondo RUUT AL wich is a lovely good and beginner friendly gravel bike.
I’m from the baltic sea in Germany and I only have been on some small day trips yet, because of winter, but I’m planning a full 7 days bike trip through all of Germany this summer, so the Garmin would be super helpful with that!
Enjoy your stay in spain & keep riding!

Hi Francis! After commuting for over a year to work in Leeds on my very old second-hand bike (which eventually fell apart), I bought my first ever new bike last month. With this new bike, I'm getting the confidence to go on longer rides exploring the Yorkshire dales. I've signed up for a few bicycle maintenance classes. and have been watching bike packing and bike videos non-stop, and yours especially have inspired me to go out more (your Vietnam series is my personal favourite). I don't have any friends that cycle, and so having the Garmin device would be an amazing tool to help me not get lost! I would also love to be able to track my progress, as getting fitter is a side-goal I have with cycling as well. Many thanks for putting out consistently brilliant videos, and I look forward to the rest of your Spain series. Thank you ! - Anna :)

I absolutely love the bike. it looks amazing.
I am a 17 year old avid cyclist, who has just funded a second hand bike. At the moment i use komoot with earbuds in to direct and track my cycling trips. I race for my schools HPV (human powered vehicle) team. A garmin head unit would be amazing giving me the freedom to train better, safer cycling with no earbuds in, navigation to go to new places and explore and help during races to see my heartrate and speed. It would honestly mean the world to me.
Thanks so much for this opportunity. Love this series.

Thanks for the great videos. I continue to learn a lot from them. They've inspired me to get out on some of my own bikepacking adventures and start to dabble in ultra distance racing. I've discovered I really enjoy it and so I have set my sights on racing the Tour Divide in 2023. A Garmin 830 would be a dream head unit and navigation tool for me on the TD. Garmins base maps are the best out there. And I know it will work. My training involves massive time on the bike so having the ability to add a Varia and have the rear radar is a huge safety bonus for me. Keep up the great videos. Keep inspiring.

I was one of the people asking about the Varia + Tailfin combo. I ended up on a different setup to you; I actually bought the Tailfin "seatpost mimic" mount, but it doesn't play that well with the Varia mount, it ends up at a weird angle and it feels like it might just slide off. I think this is mostly down to the design of the Varia mount rather than the Tailfin.
I ended up putting it on one of the Tailfin legs using one of the other rubber fittings that came with the Varia. Wouldn't work well with panniers but it worked okay for me with fork bags as mini panniers. Stayed pretty secure over a six day bikepacking trip with a fair bit of gravel so I'd recommend it. Given it's not the most visible thing down there, I also had a light clipped to the back of the Tailfin.
I wish I was bikepacking in Spain right now!

    Francis,
I've been riding for a few years now thanks to you and others like Lawrence and Chris inspiring and motivating me to get out there and slowly it by bit been building up my kit for cycling as and when I can afford it.
I currently however do not have a head unit as of yet so have been riding using my phone and battery packs to do all day rides. I have done a few overnight rides but due to battery I haven't been able to do more than two days so a Garmin would allow me to explore and start doing things like the London to Amsterdam trip I've wanted to do for a while, a trip which I intend to do this to raise funds for some of the hardest working charities close to my heart, these being the respite association and the maytree, both offering respite fothose that need it, and the Garmin will allow a trip like this to be executed smoother. Inspired by you, i also am considering riding the infamous c2c trip on a unfit for purpose bike either a Brompton or a kid's bike, so will inevitably be a multi day trip, which the Garmin will of course assist with.
Francis, your content is fantastic and is part of the reason I get onto my bike each day with a smile on my face to head off, getting slimmer, heathier and happier every time I ride, so cheers for that

Your set up really nice...I liked but at first I did my tour with back panniers then realized that nearly all weight goes to back wheel. Sometimes I could not lift back side to jump two stairs. Hi Francis. I’ve had a Garmin Fenix 2 from 2014-2019 and now a Garmin Instinct since 2019. I have done a couple of bikepacking trips since 2019 (relying on someone else’s Wahoo for navigation) and I’ve participated in a short 50km gravel race in December last year. The race was self-navigated based on a gpx that was supplied by the organizer; that was when I realise that my Garmin Instinct watch only had a limited number of waypoints for gpx and I couldn’t rely it for navigation. I ended up using my smartphone with a gpx viewer for navigation which, as you said, drained the heck of my phone’s battery. A Garmin 830 would greatly benefit so that I can enter more local self-navigating gravel races and not having to rely on friends (for navigation) for bikepacking or audax rides in the future :)

Plain and simple. My girlfriend just joined me on the first rides and kind of likes it. Now we are planning to do a longer bikepacking tour from northern germany to istanbul, after our master thesis is done and dusted. Your garmin would make the navigation quite convenient :D cheers

Yo, quality series so far! I have just moved in with my GF in a different part of the country (from Devon, now in Hampshire) I recently got back into cycling from my youth and I rely on people for leading me out. Being able to have a GPS computer would mean I could go out and ride independently when I want to, rather than stopping and looking at my phone every 500m.
Enjoy the rest of your trip, I hope it goes well (shall be watching!

Great set up. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to doing several long rides each over 100kms each to raise funds for maternal and child health in Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso. That Garmin gps would be such a blessing.

Hi Francis, huge fan of your work and just your general vibe man, solid. As a former track & field athlete I found it hard finding a sport the kept my competitive side up but also and more importantly being able to have fun and cycling was it. I came across your channel awhile back when you, James & Lawrence did your Vietnam trip, very inspiring. I plan on doing my first bike packing trip this summer with some friends from Ottawa-Montreal, Canada and having a Garmin would be amazing! Keep doing your thing mate, safe travels :)

Great videos of your trip, your explanations of how to plan a bike packing trip are really helping to give me confidence to plan something for myself. Looks amazing - winning a Garmin would be just the kick up the backside I need to get myself over to Spain riding

Love your videos! Nice seeing you breaking the “rules” - specially for a beginner as me.
For the Garmin, I am a student and just spent all my money on a road bike, that I would like to use for school (35km each way) and would be great to be able to track progress.

Just bought myself a new bike, after my old second-hand was unfortunately broken. I would love to compliment it with the Garmin 830! I'm saving for a computer, bike packing bags and a power meter, but the saving takes a bittersweet time. Hope I can enroll from continental Europe (the Netherlands) 🤗

I've been watching the channel for years (since the Red Hook Crit videos in 2016!), and great to see the channel grow so much. GARMIN CONTEST: My partner and I are getting more into bike-packing in recent years, and to date, we've been using a combination of phones and paper cue-sheets to plan our routes (and getting lost...a lot). We live in the city, so want to start planning more routes that get us away from cars, and incorporate more trails, gravel tracks and rural roads. We're also aware of our carbon footprint, and the irony of using a car/plane to get to a start of a bike trip. The Garmin GPS would help us chart more complex routes and explore new locations, especially those in our own backyard and that are accessible by train/transit. Help us make our bike-packing dreams a reality!

That Garmin looks sweet! Well for one, who doesn't like full integration for your loved ones to see how slow you would be traveling uphill? Garmin integration (Komoot, live tracking, radar lights) ftw :-)

I need the Garmin 830 for additional features I don’t have on my 130. Bought the 130 when I just started to road bike a few years ago. Now I am hooked and do a lot of 100k+ rides. Having better mapping features; climb pro; bigger touch screen would be ideal. Keep making great content. You inspire me to get out on the bike.

Great tips, as per usual. I could use a Garmin because I’ve moved up north to Lancaster, which I’m only beginning to explore, from the Cotswolds, which I knew like the back of my hand: the adventure potential up here, with the Lakes etc on my doorstep, is incredible. Knowing me, without something like a Garmin rather than just my phone, I might overreach myself and get gloriously lost! 😆

Great video again guys. Love the way you run through all your kit and tech stuff. Like you say you can bikepack on any bike. I am riding a Kinesis Range ebike. No problems with range as I only use motor when the going gets tough. Running the battery flat on my phone while navigating is my biggest problem. That's where the Garmin 830 would come in handy. Keep up the great vids.

Love the films Francis, and as a Geordie it’s great to see you riding around places I ride too. Would love a new Garmin. Mine has served me very well for years and is only now, after almost a decade of heavy use starting to loses bit of battery life. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the adventure 👌🏻

Hello Francis (Drake?), I learn from your experience and I thank you very much. Now a little suggestion from a "student", delete the rear side panniers and carry a small rack on the front wheel and "unload" the weight in front and balance the load. I thank you for an answer.

I just moved to a new city and have no idea where I'm going most of the time! I would love to use the Garmin for directions to new places so I don't have to worry about my phone. I am also training for my first ever bike packing trip, so using it to track training progress as well as directions when I finally get out on the big ride would be awesome.
As always great video and I hope you had an amazing trip!

Great inspiration! Just got my first gravel bike in November and would love to try a bike packing trip sometime.
A Garmin would be brilliant for that. My current solution of having a single AirPod in one ear and listening to the routing instructions has led to Komoot telling me to u-turn more than I’d like 😅

That's an epic bikepacking setup, close to perfect. I'd personally just add a mid-bag in the triangle. But that's me ;)
Would love to get my hands on a new edge 830. Been using my lovely "mini" edge 130 for the last couple years, and still love it. The thing took lots of beatings, even smashed the screen in a mtb crash. But it still goes and gets the data. We're going with the flow - if it ain't totally broken it's somewhat fine. Now that I'm seeing all the specs on the 830 I'd really consider an update..

*gets down on knees to beg* - I'd love the garmin to give to my girlfriend, who is doing her first ever bike packing trip this year. She's wanting to get a Garmin for this, but at present can't afford one. It'd be wonderful to surprise her with one! Plus it'd help ensure she doesn't get lost in the remote Highlands of Scotland 👍🏻

Francis I need a Garmin head unit for hands-free navigation. In my current set up my head unit is not suitable for navigation. So I either ride the same set routes or go on adventures with lots of extra stops to check the route on Google maps. Or I get yelled at when I realise we have to turn back because I lost the route.
Enjoy the sun and roads in Spain!
