Kubinka tank museum? You could see many Soviet prototypes, like the infamous Object 279

I know this is a bait video but i will fall for it anyway.
The ARL 44 was built for two reasons : 1 set up a medium tank production line as soon as possible (yes, its actually refered to more often as a medium than a heavy). 2. get people on payroll (which is part of the setting the line up in a way so one reason really). Technically it is not a failure as it achieved its goal : set up a line (and all the industry around like foundries, powder making plants, specialized electrical components, optic manufacturers), make it run and train all these new manufacturing employees
The 75 > 90 mm upgrade was for one reason : the 75 could not achieve the desired penetration so it was upguned to a 90mm that could do so
The armour scheme is based on the Panther as the main desining reference that is quoted in dev papers is well the Panther. You can even this reference brought up in the short facts booklet given to crews (which are separate from their full manuals). Hence paper thin turret is normal.
