Kohl's: Made a stand to NOT sell My Pillow. ( I worked at Kohl's)... It was not good for them . Especially here, in Minnesota where My Pillow is manufactured with 100s of employees. They are advertising their "wokeness." CEO Michelle Glass moved on to Levi's President. (she's an odd duck) Its all a mess. And, now, the "coupons" they famously offer are dwindling for selected purchases. They keep trying and keep failing miserably. Hmm... I wonder what's next?

I used to be a good customer of Kohls, and after they decided to jump on the anti my pillow I haven’t stepped foot in one of their stores.

When Kohl's first moved into my aria it was great. Great quality men's clothes at a great price. One day I walked in and discovered they doubled the prices. Needless to say I walked out and never went back.
Now they make you go in there to return Amazon items ugh so terrible…kohls will become a Amazon staging facility in the near future
The kohl’s shoppers are only there for amazon returns or pensioners who don’t shop online .

I remember stores like Circuit City was in the same position as Best Buy now just 15 years later. In my town things have really slowed down since 2008 a total of 15 restaurants have closed in the last 5 years. Empty houses are reaching a peak. In a population of 15k nearly 800 house are vacant or unsold. I think this cycle is going to get worse.

Ken here (from Ma) appreciate your texts today! I can tell you a little about what I'm doing about it.. I currently don't own a vehicle, don't eat out, don't buy clothes. Going to sell over 60 years worth of stuff from the house (yes and buy precious metals). I do all home repairs can. I don't have a TV bill.. I wont ramble on futher, sure you get the pix! I take physical possession of gold and silver. As Lynette Zang says " you don't hold it, you don't own it"

My wife is an optical technician at the Optical department in a major department store. She comes home often saying how empty the store was. That translates into no business for her dept which is actually an independent contractor inside all of the Department stores locations. She has to report Zero Sales days to the Home Office. It’s very depressing. Not her fault no one is coming into the store.

I want my family well fed. I'm focusing on food production at home. Only a year in and I'm Giving food away because we have too much. That could turn into trading for other things we aren't producing or just need or want in really hard times. I say buy metals and produce your own food everything else comes after those things for us. I know I don't want my little boy crying because he's hungry and I didn't do what I should have when I could have. I'm blessed to have the land to do it and after 12 years year I finally feel like the property is doing something for me and my maintenance of it. Plus the exercise is great. Granted we don't have car payments "we buy used for cash or don't buy it" house and land is paid for. Plus we have a back up location if somehow it was needed. No credit cards either.

🎉🎉🎉 I was one of those people who heard about this situation back then (2006-2008) but it was mostly coming from my Wife(at the time) who was also my business partner and it almost felt like she was planning on everything going to crap instead of taking advantage of this time and working with our great group of clients) and insisted that we should order less product and let some employees go before anything even happened. I had little control over the finances of our businesses and that is the BIGGEST Regret ever. She even stopped making mortgage payments and not paying our vendors…. During this time she insisted that I was taking the businesses down and that we should sell. My response was that she take one restaurant and I take the other. She didn’t even last much over a year with hers and I thrived greatly for over 14 years after we split everything until I sold my restaurant for a great profit including the restaurant building also at a great profit.
If I only knew more back then from what I know now.

You should ALWAYS be aware of your environment, physical and financial. I see a lot of women CONSTANTLY watching their cell phones, completely oblivious to their surroundings. I was thinking: They never imagine a thief watching them, snatching their purse, or even worse, punching them in the back; what can they do?
Same thing with your finances: trust but ALWAYS verify. You may not understand everything, but FAKE it, pretend you are on top of the situation. Nobody can steal from you unless you show signs that the situation is completely over your head.

I did succeed after we split the two restaurants. I was even able to pay off over $250,K in debts that she left me with and she never mentioned these debts before. I was the fool.
But now I’m happily retired and have a great income from the sale of my restaurant and the building.
Life is good. Now it’s time for me to focus on the rest of my life and investing the income I get every month.

My wife and I are in Vegas. I noticed that many of the slot machines at Ellis Island Casino have a card attached to them for BUY NOW, PAY LATER. Crazy times.
My local best buy store looks like a 3rd world hellhole.
I used to go to Best Buy and buy CDs, movies, computers, TVs and gadgets all the time.
Now I buy food, water, gold, silver, and maintenance on my house and truck so I can go to work.

2006 I was a recently divorced mom, going to night school. I remember asking a business accounting teacher about the housing bubble, but didn't realize there was a .com bubble. When it hit I couldn't do anything but ride it out & try to survive .

😆The last time I was in Best Buy was to buy some cables for my work monitors as we started to work from home back in March 2020. The Best Buy by my house was shut down at the end of March 2024. I can't buy what I don't see if I avoid Best Buy 👍
I went to my local Best Buy 6 months or so ago just to get something like an SR card. It was impossible to find, was there for 15 minutes when I should've been in and out. The cashier, who instead of being at the front like normal was basically behind a closet door and did not say a single word to me the whole transaction.
I'll never tell my plans. My plans are my own.

I used to work at Kohls so I’d see the clearance markdowns and what clothes ACTUALLY cost. I’ve never bought new clothes again unless they’re on super clearance
When I graduated high school in 2011 I couldn't understand why you needed an degree for an entry level job. Years later I compared a chart of new rn's vs a few different indicators of the economy. Basically when people go broke they step up Into a career. They compete for a career, to blow all the profits from said career. To look for the better career in the next cycle. I've been tempted to buy a nice new quality jacket lately. Last time I bought a quality jacket was ten years ago. But I look at the price and wonder why clothing has got so expensive. So I just did the unthinkable and ordered a jacket from Temu. It might be a big mistake but for $20 I'm willing to take the chance.

With mounting expenses and job insecurity, you're better off going for the cheapest thing an make it last. I know many boomers who don't understand. But when a principal part of your income goes to rent, food and bills everything seems like a luxury. But who knows maybe that Temu jacket turns out to be a bargain.
I was speaking to a relative, boomer the other day he just sold a couple of his rentals made a killing he is about to retire and bought himself some nice $700 boots, I thought he was taking the piss they just looked like your typical leather boots to me. This really puts things into perspective for me.

Meh, I have no sympathy for Best Buy - they’ve been in a consistent layoff pattern for years now. They lay them off, then either hire new people right away, or offer laid off workers their jobs back - for less, of course. Walk into any store and you’re lucky to find 10 people working there.
They’re also spending a lot of money to refresh a bunch of stores into a “studio like” experience, all while cutting them down to razor thin inventory levels.
You said it Re: those I’ve been watching retiring & I’ve thought they are crazy to go on to fixed income (with reserves in markets), going into rapid inflation & market collapse…, good luck (smarter than thou) fools!
