I mean no offense to the Smith family, but the choice to not include such luminaries as "Abused" is borderline disgraceful. Not including the real gutsy songs on the album speaks volumes to me about his filthy guilt. Regardless, I love you Elliott. Your pain is our pain.

But the points mentioned are real points and explanations raised by Elliott. ) RIP buddy. You were too much for this world to handle, and so bright that its people chose to dim your light rather than brighten it's own. To take the path of no resistance....And you fuckers broke him. Add to THAT, the questionable manner in which he died (incredibly painful and difficult manner of suicide; self impalement,) showing no signs of hesitation marks, which is uncommon in those suicide methods. Also had supposed, possible defensive wounds on forearms. His tox panel came back clear of narcotics or illicit drugs, and had normal levels of prescribed anti depressant and mood stabilizers he was on. He was alone in his home with his (ex~ish) girlfriend, Jennifer Chiba. She CLAIMED they had been arguing, so she locked herself in the bathroom. At which point she heard screaming, came out to see Elliott with kitchen knife sticking out of his chest. She goes on to claim that she then pulled the knife out (BIG no-no. Would also explain any of her prints on the handle....) and called 911. Only a small post it was found for a suicide note, and there was controversy that his name had been misspelled onthe note, but I believe that was cleared up as the medical examiner writing it incorrectly in the file, but that it was correct on the original doc... put all that together and the case was never closed. Too much contradictory evidence to point to suicide or murder for certain. Die-hard fans are often quick to condemn Jennifer as murdering him, but who is to say what really happened. Depression can do incredible things to one's psyche, and subsequently pulling off extreme acts, like stabbing yourself in the heart. There was an actor who was found in a field, throat cut ear to ear, it was deemed a suicide. I read about an inmate who once scooped out his eyeballs, without ever making a sound or screaming.... accusing someone of murder is pretty huge. But avoiding getting more$ into her pockets via his creativity seems go be a fairly universally accepted method of expressing distain/anger at the famdamily.
Abused, suicide machine, mr good morning even a melodic noise snippet like they did with the roost would make the album amazing. Let’s hope for a deluxe edition soon
A friend of mine told me that they actually recorded two drummers AT ONCE, explaining the massive sound it has. Not sure exactly how true this is but its something I've heard, so take it with a grain of salt.

Elliott's music wasn't a tribute to a skateboarder's life. Not hating, just saying, his music is so powerful and this song is about a dark part of his life where he went through a terrible break up with a girl he was madly in love with, lost his friends and band mates from heatmiser and moved from Oregon to NYC "coast to coast" appreciate the lyrics for what they are.
I think people understand that Elliott truly spoke to Dylan, who dealt with at least two kinds of hardship, and I absolutely do not ever mean to compare their traumas, or anyones, ever. I just mean to highlight that you can let things be more than one thing. I was moved by Elliott first & I appreciate Dylan's amplification of Elliott. I felt shivers from this song before putting together the narrative behind its lyrics. I don't mean this to come across harshly and thanks for the detail on this particular song.
Just to be clear, he didn't lose his bandmates. He moved on from Heatmiser and eventually moved far away, but he remained friends with Neil, Tony and Sam. And most of his friends in Portland would have loved it if he would have returned to the rose city. He was and continues to be missed.
No one was implying that in the first place. Skateboarders in this comment section are showing appreciation for Dylan’s influence on their taste of music.
I agree about the skateboarder thing but, Elliott left heatmiser for something he could fully control. And to the best of my knowledge this song was written after moving to LA from NY

Miss you Eliot. 2020
God i miss you
I miss the man i never knew
This reminds me of living in Bologna, on Via Castiglione, with somebody special.
the only sound that hits as cool as the MaryChain.
"That you belong, taggin' along. And I belong in the zoo."
There's so much weird stuff when you listen with headphones. For example, it sounds like he played a track of just snare over the whole song
I’ve always loved the drums on this song. They make me feel like I’m chuggin’ along on a train. 🚂
A friend of mine told me that they actually recorded two drummers AT ONCE, explaining the massive sound it has. Not sure exactly how true this is but its something I've heard, so take it with a grain of salt.
Steven Drozd from Flaming Lips played drums on this album :)
Two drummers and one of them is Steven Drozd. That’s a power move if ever there was one.
this was Elliot's last album RIP
That's why.
imagine if he finished this record???
2020
Listen to this every single day
“That’s why...”
Weirdly been one of my favourite parts, I always say it when he does. The raspy chill that's why
Musically, this album is so weird. Lyrically its like everything else elliott smith...
Elliott was on another level of musicianship. The Mozart of Songwriters. His songs are deceptively complicated. Very intricate and complicated stuff. Much like Kurt...was about to enter a completely new phase in his writing. Wasn't ment to be...but can you even imagine the kind of music these guys had left in them? Such a loss....

Have you listened to the songs that weren't put on basement? It's actually heartbreaking because the new direction he was taking was so exciting
@Michael Alamè but Lennon was empty on the inside
The music was finished posthumously.
God bless you E
RIP Elliott
Elliot. The Fith. Fifth Beatle
My favorite Elliot Smith song for very personal reasons. Are there any other reasons?
coasting through life; coast to coaster.
escaping demons.
being a ninja (dodging).
kill all rock stars!
20 years today.
Who is talking in the outro?
It is Elliott's friend reading a poetry
Nelson Gary
I wonder how much VAZ and Queens of the Stone age Influenced this kind of mix as well.As far as the time line goes.
2023 ❤
Elliott's music wasn't a tribute to a skateboarder's life. Not hating, just saying, his music is so powerful and this song is about a dark part of his life where he went through a terrible break up with a girl he was madly in love with, lost his friends and band mates from heatmiser and moved from Oregon to NYC "coast to coast" appreciate the lyrics for what they are.
shhmellshlikeasshhhh this helped me get through a break up I feel his pain
