Great job NBC, kick out the man with all of the charm, humor, and genuine happiness that Jay Leno will never be able to replicate. I'll be watching TBS, see ya later.

Edward Cortez But he really didn't, his show was actually doing very poor and it caused a trickle effect in which viewers wouldn't stay to watch Conan do his thing. So in the end Jay's ratings were so low that it actually caused other shows ratings to dip. Soooo....

No, people didn't turn on him. And if they did, then they were misinformed. I can't for the life of me, understand how anyone thinks this was Jay's fault. Conan's rating dropped the tonight show to second for the first time ever. I managed a company, and I left to go to another job, and the guy that replaced me wasn't getting it done, so they called me back and asked me if I was interested. So I negotiated and went back. So would I be a bad guy because I got the job offered to me again and took it? No. Conan didn't not get it done. Period. That's why he was given money to go away. He had no business slamming NBC, when they were especially generous in what they gave him. Yeah, he was crying all the way to the bank. We could only wish to be given that kind of money. Unbelievable.
And he is NOT that good which NBC realized unfortunately a little too late. But the ratings spoke volumes.

Killed his legacy? Is that a joke? The guy is still incredibly popular considering he has one of the most popular channels on RUclips, which mind you he started doing just for fun before it became huge. What in gods name is Conan going to do after he retires? Exactly. Jay is legend. Conan is not. Sorry about it.

megamovieman101 I can kind of understand why Fallon is doing better than Conan. The Tonight Show has always been about middle-of-the-road, inoffensive humor, low on irony. I wouldn't say Conan's humor is cutting-edge, but it's more so than Fallon's. The show just wasn't a good fit for Conan. Also, Fallon was something new. Conan basically had his old show, which he had been doing for decades, moved up by an hour. That's not exciting enough to pull in a new audience.

I remember being happy for Conan when he went to the Tonight Show, then beyond disappointed when NBC kicked him out. Now NBC is doing everything in their power to make sure Jimmy Fallon having the best circus and game show ever, just so that their viewers and ratings don't drop into "Conan numbers" again. It's suspicious that Fallon's videos are always on the front page on RUclips. It's like NBC buys the spot

NBC should've gotten rid of dead weight like Jay years and years ago. Never was a funny talk show host. Conan on the other hand understood the younger audience, meaning the future of tv. His new show has been fun even though I haven't watched it regularily since they don't show it around here, but the app and the episodes in the net are awesome. Clueless Gamer for example is one of the funniest bits in talk show business right now.

Nobody blames the PUBLIC for giving the tonight show bad ratings when O'Brien hosted it (same goes for Jay Leno Show). You don't seem to understand what went on here. They didn't fire Conan. He left on his own. When Conan got the tonight show, they also gave Leno the lead in, and they BOTH tanked in the ratings. NBC affiliates complained because Leno's show was causing a drop in their late new ratings, so NBC was going to move both shows back a half hour. Conan would have kept the job had he agreed to do the Tonight Show with a 12:05am start time. He had the option to leave as well, and that's what he did.

If I was in charge back then, I would have moved Jay Leno to Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 10.00pm, these days of the schedule are usually the weakest on a network, with Friday traditionally a dumping ground for failed sitcoms, with Saturdays and Sundays given over to re-runs of dramas, sport and political shows. So having Jay at 10.00pm on these three nights would have provided an alternative, and would have been a good lead in for SNL on Saturday nights.

As I commented in another video about the exact same negativity over Leno supposedly stealing the show from Conan, I simply prefer Leno's humor over Conan's humor. It's just my personal opinion. Given Leno had it first, NBC execs were the ones who screwed Conan more than Leno did. They could have fired Leno, but instead wanted to appease both by giving him another show, then later put him back at the Tonight Show. They should have let him decide when like they let Johnny, screwing both like this, then choosing Leno over Conan made people hate Leno when it's not 100% warranted...

And when NBC decided they were making a mistake and wanted Jay to stay, Conan felt like he was suddenly second best again. But it was the network and Conan's ambition that really made this thing happen. Not Jay.

NBC didn't want to let him go, gave him a prime time show, it bombed, so they brought him back to the Tonight Show and gave Conan the boot. Had they let Jay Leno retire and not give him the primetime show, who knows how Conan O'Brein could have done in the job that he had been promised. I would imagine eventually Jimmy Fallon would have moved on to host the Tonight Show but for sure not 4 years after 2010.

If scorcese give leonardo di caprio a role in a movie is leo supposed to be happy or supposed to say "oh gee tom cruise was supposed to play this part im gonna give it to him." And while you are at it ask YOURSELVES this question: if your boss chose to promote you instead of your friend are you supposed to celebrate or say hey i shud give it to my friend!! Bottomline: it is not conan's or leno's call. It is NBC's call and THEY were the ones responsible for not making this smooth transition.

@natechaters LOL good point. Their risk-taking apparently involved bringing back the milquetoast stalwart.

Leno destroyed his legacy with this mess...he should have simply stepped away and gracefully exited. Moving to 10pm was dumb and only served to harm the Tonight Show franchise.

NBC would have had to pay him a fortune to step away in 2009, his contract was not done, and so they were the ones who told him to go to 10pm to save them a fortune.

It was stupid to fire Conan O'Brien, bring in Jay Leno (who would leave shortly). I wish Conan O'Brien was kept.

Given that TECHNICALLY leno didnt STEAL the job back what he did was wrong, he DIDNT LEAVE AT ALL!!! Which gave NBC the option of kicking conan ANYTIME bcoz leno made sure he was ALWAYS AVAILABLE. Period. His rich he doesnt need the money. And if its bcoz he loves doing it he already got to do it for 17years all of the past host had to give it up at one point even if they wanted to do it until they die bcoz they have run their course and they know that it was never for them to keep. Regardless

Anyone who likes to judge should probably first read Bill Carter's book "The War For Late Night" which is an unbiased account of what actually happened during the Tonight Show Debacle. As for referring to "our people" as ignorant "r"-words, I doubt even Conan would thank you for that brand of...support.

I miss so much Conan's late show. He was funnier and riskier at a later time, his writers were better and New York guests are more interesting. No more Walker Texas Ranger lever...Cactus that plays "We didn't start the Fire".....The Tonight Show died when Johnny Carson left.

I agree. It shows Lenos true colors. I liked him on the Tonight show...but he never truly gave Conan a fair shot. I fear if Conan goes to Fox...his show will get cancelled. People just dont watch Fox at night!

If Jay Leno really had sympathy for Conan, he wouldn't have taken the Tonight Show back. Jay took away Conan's dream and he knew it.

NBC paid Conan 45 million to not do a show? Wow great business move there. All because they would not let Jay Leno go off into retirement.

Conan is the future, Leno is the past. Why replacing the past with the future, then replacing the future with the past? I think the guys responsible for that also canceled Star Trek and Futurama.

Leno came back for almost no time at all before he gave the show to the other guy who does the job Conan used to do= What does Leno have against Conan? The plot thickens.

Not according to the Neilsen ratings it's more like Jay, Letterman, Kimmel, Fallon, Stewart, Colbert, Ferguson, O'Brien, and then Carson Daly.

Leno is like the Dudde who gets you fire because your more likable and honest. Just because he needs more gas money.

The comments section...wow. I knew the Conan fanbase tend to hold a grudge but still...they act like Leno did to Conan what Max Shreck did to Selina Kyle in Batman Returns.
