    No question this is a very busy rail corridor. A railfan can capture a bunch of trains here in a few hours. The double decker passenger trains are cool. The intercities can really fly, their speed through the station is impressive. We can say this was a productive Christmas trip home. Thanks a lot for the second German video, I really enjoyed it. :)

      I somewhat cursed those trains that stuck there on the middle track at the station, but yes, there are some interesting trains in this video. I think the speed limit for the passenger trains is 160 km/h. Great you like this part, too. I hope there'll be some opportunities to visit trains in Germany again this year.

    The lack of the loud engines in the locos gives the whole train a more peaceful quiet aura.

      Lol, that's right, but if one is used to the rumbling of the diesels, one clearly misses it.

      The line was rebuilt recently for fast freight and passenger service, so it's naturally one of the main arteries south out of Berlin (it has always been a busy line as it connects Berlin and Dresden, which are among the largest cities in Germany). Nice you liked it.

    Very interesting video and looked like a great location to railfan. So many switching moves through the station. Electric freight locomotives and shorter trains are very different from here in the US. Thank you for sharing this MBM.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад +1

      If you have the chance, do it. It's a different experience. No train horns and trains are shorter and faster. Train are gone by fast - sometimes too fast for me lol. Makes railfanning somewhat more challenging than here in the US.

    Hot diggity! Always wanted to take a trip to Europe to do some railfanning. Thanks for taking us along!
    I noticed that the trains are a lot shorter and a lot quicker. Seems you'd see a lot in a short amount of time. They also seem to be more precise. I base that on what I saw between that tanker string and the intermodal. The intermodal hadn't even come to a complete stop before that tanker was crossing over to the same track. Very cool stuff. I really enjoyed this! Danka! (In keeping with where you were, lol!)

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад +1

      Nice you enjoyed watching this piece from a different world in railroading, too. Your observations are absolutely right. However, one shouldn't forget that distances between large rail hubs are much shorter than here in the US. So running shorter trains is still economic there. That looked cool how the two northbounds you mention came into the station area almost simultaneously.

    GREAT VIDEO. Are these trains privately operated or are they government operated ? Would be very interesting to see trains in France and England . Perhaps it is on your bucket list of things to do in the future .

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад +5

      Thanks very much! Most of the railroads are private companies, but some were run by the state until recently and the track is still federal property, so no single railroad owns it. This is why different railroads can use the entire network, which makes railfanning a colorful adventure out there. I regularly travel to Germany because of family ties, but it would definitely be interesting to railfan elsewhere in Europe as well.

    • @AndreiTupolev

      The red locos are DB, the others are various private operators

    • @hadesdescent6664
      @hadesdescent6664 2 года назад

      Locomotives are traveling with their trains through several countries. Private operaters usually have very small number of locomotives. In Germany all that is not DB Cargo is still less than what DB have! DBcargo have 400 units of 185 series, 100 Vectrons 193, and Smartron 192 ~~15+, plus many other types of electric locomotives. Now there's an order for 200 Vectrons 248 Dual Mode- electric & diesel electric at the same time!
      Germany rules, but the Swiss Railways are 100% electrified and almost all double track, pure joy! If interested you can watch cab views of Swiss Railways, and the best IMHO channel is
      RAILWAY EMOTIONS (10+ for their effort)! There's a lot of cab views of all over Europe✓✓✓✓🙋

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад

      I know, the infrastructure looks far superior compared to most lines over here. I'm particularly impressed by the speeds the trains keep even if the diverge at a switch.

      @@mbmars01 That's because they use moving point frogs and have leveling bolts so they can make them smooth. It also decreases wear on the frogs. BNSF would never let us put levelers or moving point frogs except on the east coast corridor.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад

      Yep, would be cool, but since these are family-related trips and not railfanning excursions, there isn't much time to travel around and watch trains at different locations. But it may happen some day. It would be very interesting, for sure.

    One thing that makes European locomotives stand out are the paint schemes. I wish there were more American, Canadian and Mexican paint designs. I wonder if Amazon and others will get into the railroad business.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад +2

      That's a very good point. When I still lived in Germany many years ago, trains were basically all red (the colors of the German Railways, DB). However, the privatization of the rail business across Europe has dramatically changed that in the past decade or so. It's indeed a lot more fun to watch the different private companies move trains nowadays, plus the lease units as well. I totally agree. Besides the few special units that some railroads run, there is little variation of paint schemes here on a given railroad.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад

      Yes, besides the passenger trains. In the previous video, there were at least two DB freight trains, but it's true, a lot of freight is moved by private companies nowadays.

    That was a very sudden stop by that first train. I wonder why it did stop; it had a green signal. Perhaps some fault with the safety system

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  2 года назад

      I noticed this, too. I almost think, this was an emergency braking. Maybe he came in too fast and automatic braking was activated. But as I mentioned in the video, they also had problems with signals and turnouts on that line.
