" Very large vessel's fwd bearing reducing and aft bearing increasing" Sir, if the lights are of same vessel how can fwd reduce and aft increase? 2. "Intention is to avoid collision and not to increase the CPA" Sir, if CPA is increasing it will result in safe passing so how does it make a difference. Regards.
1. If you are likely to make contact at mid length this will happen and bearing of that mid point will be constant. 2. People get stuck with word CPA To increase CPA and meet company requirements some officers take actions contrary to the rules. Hence clarified accordingly.

There is no mention of distances in the rules. Some company manuals specify the distance to take action. Follow your company guidelines.
