    You've definitely picked up an Australian accent on some words, especially the Australian 'o'.
    Thursday is the traditional day when everyone got paid. So it was the only late night they allowed late trading. In Melbourne, Friday is also late night. In Queensland, supermarkets close at 6pm on weekends lol. Varies state by state. We're very big on allowing workers to have time with family or to socialise, which is why shops aren't open as late as other countries. It's just the culture here.
    It's definitely possible to live cheaply in this country and save money, just have to learn how. And with bills, just need to plan. Get a diary.

      Oh wow, mystery solved! Thanks Shaun and yes, the family-oriented culture was one of the attractions for us to this incredibly beautiful country. Thanks for stopping by, mate! Is there a short form to your name? 😂😂

    Thursday night - payday and pension days used to be paid on Thursdays so the shops used to stay open for people to shop. Years ago, shops didn't open on the weekends so people used to get paid on Thursdays so the shops stayed open for people to get their groceries or shop on this night...

    You said that wrong. Australians drive on the LEFT.
    The steering wheel is on the right in the car.

    • @lifewithchioma
      @lifewithchioma  2 года назад +4

      I realised after I uploaded the video. I was speaking from the perspective of where the steering is situated in the car. Thanks for watching anyways!

    We drive on the Left in Australia. If you drive on the right you’ll be in trouble.

    • @lifewithchioma
      @lifewithchioma  2 года назад +2

      My bad! I meant driving on the right in terms of 'steering' on the right and only realised after I released the video that my phrasing was wrong. Thanks for watching and picking that up! 😁

    I know this is probably very belated but the reason there is Thursday night shopping is because in the very old days shops didn’t open Sunday and only stayed open until lunchtime on Saturday. In those days most people worked Monday to Friday so they only had Saturday morning to shop. They then brought in Thursday night shopping to extend shopping hours and the reason it’s Thursday is because people don’t want to shop on Friday night, they like to socialise. Just to be a bit difficult Melbourne has its late shopping day on Friday.

    I dont know where you are living in NSW but here in Melbourne restaurants and take aways are open to at least 10pm if not later. Supermarkets to midnight and some 24 hrs a day.

    The opal cards are a continuation of all the different states doing everything differently our states all used to have different railway gauge types we still use different times with daylight savings (stupid idea) .our states used to use the differences to levy extra taxes on everything. A good idea would be that we have a single car driver licence but we don't so each state can use different taxes. The Thursday night thing was to do with all shops being closed on Sunday so you buy everything Thursday night, Friday night you go out for the weekend. Our shortening words was by the convict days to use slang to confuse the traps (prison guards)

    Number 1 point, wrong, Australians drive on the LEFT. Maybe you meant the steering wheel, and so the driver, is on the right side of the car.

    Why are so many videos like this say they pay rent weekly. I’ve never in my life encountered this or even been given the option. It’s always monthly. Is this a NSW thing? I’m in VIC.

    Thursday was pension day and pay day, And winter has always been middle of the years and summer Dec Jan Feb, Shouldn't have been a surprise with a little homework which I would think you would do before moving to a new country.
