Nice to see some R & D investments going to 2-Channel Class AB. Next we need the Icon AM/FM receiver that looks like those beauties from the '70s.

I actually don't care for the new design language they have here with these pieces, and I've been talking about it on forums ever since the announcement. First, they didn't need to revise the logo; there was nothing wrong with it.
Second, moving away from their traditional aesthetics pedigree - big, boxy, beefy chassis elements with shiny, chunky control knobs, etc - is a mistake IMO. What many diehard Onkyo fans loved about the products' looks was what they once were; the RZ Series AV receivers is a good example of this. Big, brawny, squared-off shapes with black brushed aluminum faceplates.
I don't personally care for the looks of these ICON two channel components with the centrally mounted volume knob and that weird level indicator line on it.
I pray these aesthetics don't trickle down to the company's AV receiver lineup; we don't need any more products looking like those horrid Yamaha units with their ugly cyclops volume dial in the middle of the faceplate (and the equally off-putting shiny black material on the front).

Numerous customer surveys and competitive analysis disagree with you.

@MrSatyre1 Apparently - but that doesn't make the pieces any less ugly.
And I actually am suspect of this brand - under the arm of Premium Audio Group/Voxx/Sharp, or whatever the hell they're calling themselves these days - taking into consideration ANY feedback from consensus groups or customer surveys. Enthusiasts from around the world, including diehard longtime Onkyo fans, have tried relentlessly to get the brand to make changes to their receivers in terms of functionality, even going so far to create and sign a petition on AVS Forum, and it's totally gone on deaf ears.
Like Panasonic, they simply don't care about the customer base or anything they have to say, so I am skeptical about this new design aesthetic being the result of what PAG/Voxx/Sharp THINKS the people want.
It's what THEY or some twenty something engineer in an isolated closet of a lab THOUGHT looked good.

Enthusiasts from around the world, including diehard longtime Onkyo fans, have tried relentlessly to get the brand to make changes to their current line of receivers in terms of functionality, even going so far to create and sign a petition on AVS Forum, and it's totally gone on deaf ears. These were changes, mind you, that just about everyone agreed on, such as bringing back a front display that allows you to see the sound mode and input name at the same time.

@MrSatyre1 Apparently - but that doesn't make them any less difficult to look at.
Further, I wouldn't take anything reported by Premium Audio Group/Voxx/Sharp - or whatever they're calling themselves these days - as customer survey and competitive analysis feedback seriously. This is a company that refused to listen to any customer feedback when thousands of hardcore Onkyo fans clamored for their engineers to make changes to the operational aspects of the current AV receiver lines, many of us even signing a petition for these changes on AVS Forum, and it all went on deaf ears. They, like Panasonic, could care less what their customers think (believe me, I've been down this road with PAG's customer reps, Tier 2 engineers from Pionkyo and others).
That is why I'm not convinced - at all - that these designs came as a result of any kind of customer survey or competitive analysis. It was what some twenty something in an isolated closet of a lab THOUGHT looked good, plain and simple.
