The Advance Paris X-i75 is an outstanding performer and an amazing value. At around $1000.00 USD, I am not sure it has much competition. BTW, Pricing seems to be all over the place.
This manufacturer is certainly gaining traction and recognition in the musicophile community. Certainly on the radar and my wishlist. Your review, as always, is really insightful and full of amazing technical detail to fulfill even the most geeky. Thank you so much this wonderful content, Sir, and for brightening my Sunday.
It is s nice unit. FYI, I also have the Audiolab 6000A & the Cambridge CXA81 MkII, so one of those may pop up on your radar. As always Simon thank you so much.
@@OldGuyHifi Hello my friend. Truly appreciate your video and thank you for sharing it with us. May I ask you a question. I also have the Audiolabs 6000A. Would you consider this an upgrade and how would you compare the difference in sound between the two. I know the inputs/outputs are different but more interested in a sound comparison. Much appreciated. Thank you.
Victor, It just so happens I have a 6000 in for review. I think at would be at best a lateral move. The 6000 has a more forward midrange presentation and a bit of a bass bump while the X-i75 might play lower and is much smoother through out the frequency range. These are somewhat subtle differences. For a deeper dive on the 6000, my review should be out in a couple of weeks. I hope this sort of gives you answer. Thank so much for coming back to the channel.
That Louis & Ella album has been audiophile candy for over forty years. That recording has everything, two of the greatest vocalists, the greatest horn and incredible recording engineers. A reincarnation. Ten out of ten!
I have compared this amp to units that are over double the price and find it incredibly musical and engaging.its main bonus is that it communicated the energy and pace of music so well. It is impossible not to have your feet tapping when listening to it.- good review!
I agree. It is very good. I was sad to send it back. Good news is that I have one of their model A7 streaming integrated amps on its way to me. Watch this space.
I auditioned this against the Arcam A5 which the UK Hi Fi press seems very impressed with (its the same price) and, frankly, the X-i75 was starkly superior- even my (non audiophile wife) could hear the difference- so we bought one!
I am French et je viens de découvrir votre chaîne RUclips. J'aime votre façon de présenter cet amplificateur en même temps que des disques que vous aimez. Vous donnez envie de les écouter ! Merci à vous 🎸🎸🎸
Love the design and quality feel - I was lucky to get an older Advance Acoustic X-i90. I use mine in combination with an external dac connected to amp in.
You, Randy, and Andrew are going to make sure I have the best stuff out there. I'll let the wife know you guys are to blame for her lack of expensive vacations 😂. Thanks man!
Sure. Blame some guys on RUclips for your lust for Hifi gear. I will take the blame and testify on her behalf at the divorce proceedings. LOL> Thanks my friend.
Ed, you continue to do an excellent job reviewing. I will say that people judge appearance differently on products and in my case I'm appearance first audio file and this device that you are reviewing fails that test as it does not look special to my eyes and as a result we'll just be crossed off the list regardless of how good it sounds
The flexibility in the amount of inputs is something I’m keen to appreciate in this device and a price point that isn’t sticker shock. Thanks for giving us the tour!
I was just looking at the guts. It's a very unique interior layout. You have what appears to be a stacked toroidal transformer - one for each channel. You also appear to have separate capacitors for each channel. So, unless I am wrong, you have a dual mono design similar to the Music Fidelity M3si for a much lower price. Each channel has its own huge aluminum heat sink. It's a lot of amp for the money.
Good catch. I do really like the unit and am impressed with it's performance to price ratio. Thanks for the great observation and for stopping by the channel.
I enjoyed the video, Ed. It looks like the manufacturers have found a niche for all in one Integrated amps showing up at this price range. You can buy this, spend a grand and call it a day. It makes for a difficult decision.
Advance Paris is up and coming in the US. While, the’ve been around for over 2 decades, they are definitely getting recognized by audiophiles state side. I’ve been running the A12 Classic for a few months now and I am really impressed - driving my Klipsch LaScala AL5. I would consider this unit if I didn’t have the A12. Great review!
I was very impressed by the unit. It sounds wonderful and I love all of the inputs. It will be hard say goodbye to it. Thanks Eric for returning to the channel.
I am so glad to hear that. I hope you enjoy it. I loved having it here too review. It is very tempting. Thanks for watching and commenting and best of luck.
Too many redundant ones and yet no HDMI. Fail in my book. And is COAX a big thing in Europe as I have WAAAY more optical gear than coax and that hasn't changed for me in decades and decades. My Anthem AVM70 has 3 optical ins, one out and 2 coax ins which to me seems more appropriate. (Let alone 7 HDMI ins)
I’m assuming that “rec out” is fixed level, so the jumpers seem to be misplaced. It is nice to see a fixed line out just the same. Some people do still have tape decks and that option makes this amp even more amazing for the price. It would be nice to have an HDMI option as well. The whole blue LED trend is a shame (I blame ancient Marantz designers for this). It’s too distracting. As a fan of old Sansui gear, I am a fan of green lighting. It’s must less jarring and almost soothing in comparison. All in all, this is a great amp for the price. Thanks for the heads up. Great presentation!
ah, you save me a bit of typing. I have this amp for a year now.. (the brand blew up a little sooner in Croatia than in USA) i use equalizer as the author suggested... Internal old school DAC will be enough for most people! it's just a brilliant kit. reccomended purchase!
@@rabezo I too appreciate the old Wolfson and Burr-Brown (TI) DACS. They are never “in your face”. They sound more like a ladder DAC than ESS and AKMs do.
SPDIF can sound great when properly executed. My discontinued Schiit Eitr filters and reclocks a USB input and outputs as SPDIF. Advance Paris uses the AKM 4113 chip for similar DDC functions.
I’ve had mine for a month or so and it’s fantastic. One thing: the manual doesn’t mention a subsonic filter for the phono stage and there’s no other frequency response given than 10Hz-35kHz which I must assume applies to all inputs. If you have rumble gremlins and want to spare your woofers I’d be after a couple of those RCA in line high pass filters.
I had this exact same amp and was quite happy until I changed it to Atoll IN100. The IN100 is better in every way but this is still a nice amp. I must say that I liked the look in the beginning but this has now completely changed 😅
The X-i75 was great paired with Klipsch RP-160(= RP-600), when moving to better and more demanding speakers it lacked a little authority and control. I bought it in 2016 for 650€ and enjoyed it for a few years so I can´t complain 😊
@@tessie4204 Yes, still very happy with it. I bought it without build in dac, because I don´t need it. I think the dac is actually ok but never tried it. To be complete I upgraded many parts (caps, resistors,...) which improved the sound quite a bit 🙂
Very nice review. I have the A12 and it is a pretty value packed piece also. I would say that one integrated amp, in this price range, that might give it a run for the money would be the class A/B IotaVX SA40. More power at 150W (8Ω, 2 Channels), 300W (8Ω, 1 Channel bridged), 300W (4Ω, 2 Channels), 600W (4Ω, 1 Channel bridged), has 2 sets of speaker outputs, a pair of balanced inputs, MC/MM phono, 2 x coaxial, 2 x toslink (optical), 1 x HDMI ARC, 1 x Bluetooth 5.0. You do give up the USB Dac though.
I would be very happy to review the Iota stuff. I don't have a contact there. I will try. BTW my review of the Cambridge CXA81 MKII drops Sunday morning. Let me know what you think. Oh, I also have the Advance Paris A7 Streaming integrated in as well and an Arcam A25. Just call me Mister "Integrated." Thx.
I have just returned a Roksan Attessa integrated amp and cd transport both were terrible and cost £1100 uk loads of technical issues from speaker pop at turning on and off to bad hum in av mode plus the first cd transport would not read discs and a weak powerless bass less sound no tone control or loudness on an amp that really needed it I think I’m going to try one of these Advanced Paris units now it looks awesome.
I am sorry to hear about your negative experience. I do have the Advance Paris A7 Streaming amp in for review along with the Arcam A25 and the Cambridge CXA81 MKII. Reviews on all soon. Thanks for tuning in.
Seems like a nice integrated at a very good price relative to its would be competitors. Only wish more integrated amps would use red led displays vs the blue. Looks nicer to me, easier on the eyes too. Other than that, seems like a nice all in one unit. If you listen to new age/jazz type music such as Arkenstone, give a listen to Hillary Stagg who played the electric harp, unfortunately deceased but left us enough of his artistry to enjoy. While relaxing, the tones and textures can show what a speaker and perhaps amps and dacs can or cannot do really well, or at least differently.
Arcam A15 would certainly be a competitor, as well as the Arcam SA20 that is really nice that can be had for around a grand now since it's an older model.
I was, indeed, surprised when we first got to see the functionality on the rear apron -- but in the opposite of the anticipated direction, since there's no balanced XLR inputs.
Based on my observations & some of my comments, I don't think a majority of average users, use balanced. Also, in all honesty, unless you are running long cable runs or need the extra voltage I find there to be almost no audible benefit to using balanced on cables less than 1 meter. Just my opinion. Great observation. Thanks for tuning in.
@@OldGuyHifi I'd only offer the rebuttal that, if one of the purported selling-points of this model is rear-apron connectivity, then a user who already has a beloved source that only outputs XLR, or whose XLR outputs are joined internally to much the better-designed and thus sonically superior circuitry, might be in for an unhappy surprise when the purportedly connection-versatile Advanced Paris turns out not to be capable of accommodating that source. (That's a very long sentence, my goodness. Thomas Pynchon eat your heart out, I guess.)
The Advance Paris Line is Awesome! I am Seriously looking at the A12, For the Money and Quality Build , I really dont think there is a Value Contender at this Time!
Yes but... You never know. I have another integrated amp review this Sunday. You may be surprised. I also have the Cambridge CXA81 MkII in fire review as well. Fun stuff. Thx for watching.
Yes. I should have done a deeper dive on that. I don't use tone controls so it doesn't occur to me to talk about it. I am not saying there is anything wrong with tone controls, hell, I use an EQ. I just don't think about it. Thanks for pointing that out. I will try to be better about that stuff.
Ed another great review but this one as well as others (I guess it was the lack of a low pass filter for sub out) make me want to ask you why don't more products have more low pass as well as high pass filters?yes the sub out (or the amp out here to a pair which I think even though things get non localized below say 150 hrz or so -I think) you would think that many speakers especially monitors/bookshelves would benefit from a high pass filter. So why is this exception (I think Parasound Hint integrateds have them.Thoughts?
Good question. I think that it adds cost and complexity. I am just guessing. I honestly don't think about it much. I just use the high pass/low pass 36dB per octave x-over that is built into my sub. I will be reviewing some subs soon so it may be something to discuss. Thx.
@@OldGuyHifi Uep but like Erin (@Audio Corner of course) gripes that so many of the sub outs are full range especially on the little D amps that one of the major benefits would be derived by keeping all the signal tat the monitors can't reproduce with a high pass would greatly improve the sound. The RSL $100 amp has a 90hrz high pass switch which matches their $200 monitors and this makes sense for a company mainly known for it's subs.I know the Parasound has it but I would think that if the filter didn't degrade the sound it would be a no brainer.Srill now with streamers one can like on the Wiim filter it out from the source. Still it perplexes me
Wonderful review as always!!!! What a cool unit. It’s beautiful. I clicked on the link and saw that the unit is $1,199. Was it on sale? Still a great looking value.
Yeah, I think Kevin has it at full retail. I don't blame him. I found a couple of places on line that have it for $999. If you are looking for an integrated amp sit tight. I have the Audiolab 6000A and a Cambridge CXA81 MKII in for review. Thanks my friend.
@@OldGuyHifi Thank you, Ed! I'm always looking. The problem is, I have WAY too many pieces. I have a Marantz PM7000N (love it), an Emotiva TA-100 (love it), an Emotiva PT-1 + A2 (awesome!!!), and a couple of old Sony ES units that have pre-amp outs (STR-DA555ES and a STR-DA333ES which I will never part with). My wife would literally murder me if I bring anything new home. I also have like 8 mini class D amps to play with. I think my next play is a really good DAC to replace my SU-1 by SMSL. I think that is my weak link at the moment.
I’d be interested to hear your experience with, sonic impressions of, and under the hood review of the Outlaw RR2160MKII receiver. It is in the same $1k price class, offers even more features and respectable power ratings. I don’t own one, but would value your feedback.
@@OldGuyHifi I own the previous model (RR2160) and only recently dragged it out as a power amp for my NAD M10 and it did not disappoint!! I had originally put it away for old Sansui and Pioneer equipment with a NAD c658 pre but yes, the Outlaw is very respectable for its price!!
Ed, nice review. Awesome amp. One question, around 9 minutes you show the remote to allow choosing speakers A & B, yet the back view only show one set of left and right speakers. Where are the B speakers connecting?
That was a mistake on my part. They use the same remote on another unit that has a "B" pair connection. Good eye. So far you are the only one to catch that. Thank you my friend.
@OldGuyHifi you know we have yet to have a good review of the stereo 70s, in my opinion. If you could get your hands on one and give it a review, I think it would be appreciated.
@@timbabyfacesavage377 I don't have a relationship with Sound United the owner of Marantz and with their recent financial issues I am not sure they would have time for me. Rumors have it that Sound United is for sale and that it may get broken up. I only have industry rumors to go by. It could be BS but I don't think so. Thanks for the suggestion.
I wonder if Atoll is distributing in North America? It's great that we get all these excellent products from the UK and France, but it feels like a lot of the money spent to get them actually goes to various tax and dealers. It would be nice to offer more competition from local manufacturers, at the 1,000 dollar price point. No doubt a great product though.
Hi sir thanks again great vlog how you rate the phono out that Paris to the AXR100 please I have the AXA 35 which I believe has the same phono out as the AXA35 thanks again good luck 👍
Stuart, If I had to choose between the AXR100 & the X-i75, I would go with the Cambridge. The phono section in the Advance Paris is fine but I don't think it sounds as good as the Cambridge units. Thanks for asking and watching.
I would like to know .... I only see in the back of the unit ONE set of speaker terminals ....But..... you showed on the remote control a button for speakers ..A and B .... something to me don,t match .....
I don’t want to like advance paris, that was easier to say when they didn’t offer anything this cheap (as far as I know). At this price and if you’re that impressed with it then I guess I have yet another option to consider, damn you both, but mostly thanks again for sharing!
Joe, Honestly I don't have any real hands on experience with that unit. I have heard it and other Technics amps at shows and retailers. I would hazard a guess that the Advance Paris would be warmer and bit more relaxed sounding. Much less forward but with all the detail. I hope that helps. What were you thinking about?
@@OldGuyHifi Thanks for the straight forward reply. I currently have a vintage Technics SA-800 pumping Cerwin Vega 12 TR's. And for various reasons, I want to upgrade the receiver. Doing some research, it now looks like the A10 Classic fits in my plan. I'm hoping to trade the SA-800 and apply it to the A10. I will be contacting Kevin about that. I like the SU-G700M2 because good used ones are coming into the market. So I'm a bit perplexed on which way to go. But the A10 classic right now is the front runner and it fits my needs and I can grow with it.
@@joepasquarello1273 The A10 is outstanding. As you know, I just reviewed the Xi-75 and have the A7 Streaming integrated in right now for review. I like the Advance Paris product a lot. Good luck and keep me posted.
@@OldGuyHifi I like the A10 a lot. And a lot will depend of if I can get a deal on my trade from Kevin. They're the closest dealer to me. Thanks again!
Hi Ed, I really enjoyed your content so far! I own a HK 3370 with Mission M23 floorstanders. As you own a HK3370 too, u might be the perfect person to ask if the Advance Paris would be a good upgrade for me. I have no idea how they compare to each other... Thanks in advance!
Pieter, It is hard to make a comparison as they each have their own sonic signature. HK is a bit forward and has a bit of a U shaped response curve, while the Advance Paris is a bit smoother and very detailed without being harsh. The X-i75 will throw a much larger image and has more refinement. If I had to choose: Advance Paris. Don't get me wrong the 3370 is one of HKs very best no doubt and I won't be giving it up without a fight. Newer tech some better features make the X-i75 compelling. Thanks for asking a tuning in.
Ed, Nice review advanced paris. Just bought revival atlanta 3 bookshelf speakers. I have an old Pathos One MKII I could use. Would the paris be an upgrade?
I have only heard that speaker at shows. I know it is well built and has garnered some praise. The X-i75 will pair with a lot of speakers. My guess is that it would be a good combo. Thanks.
Nice review. How many mf are the capacitors? This amp is made in France or china?I also have 225s from 2018.Spectacular speakers. What about wrfs 12.4, some reviews say about harsh sounding tweeter.Wrfs12.3 don't have that problem.
It is made in China. I don't recall the capacitor values. It really doesn't matter as it never ran out of steam no matter how loud I played or what speakers it was paired with. What isn't these days? I own the 12.4s and I can tell you that they warm and wonderful. Very revealing and delicate. They will show up poor recording and equipment. They aren't finicky but won't sugar coat anything either. Thx.
Very informative, and enjoyable Ed ! Very interested in this amp ! As with your assessment of the Arcam A25 integrated amp being lean , and not engaging ! Is the i75 engaging, and not considered lean !? Would appreciate you thought on this ! Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. I am in Wash DC for Capital Audio Fest. The Xi75 is a very smooth and detailed amp. It has very good power, and honestly it has a sound that I enjoy and could live with. Far superior to the Arcam in every way. I hope that helps. Thx for asking and watching.
Different. The preamp used on the Galion would influence the sound. The Galion has a bit more authority. Wait my friend because I also have an Audiolab 6000A & a Cambridge CXA81 MKII in the review que. We can discuss it off line if you want.
I would love to try it but they left off 4ohm ratings on purpose and that worries me. my speakers are 4ohm with 3.2 minimum. All the other stuff shows 4 ohm specs.
Almost everybody is not listing 4 ohm any more. The EU changed the testing requirements for 4 ohm and it is basically a heat soak and causes the amp to current limit. The test does not reflect a real world use case. I have used this amp on many 4 ohm speakers with zero issues.
@ good to know. I have the new Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 and I’m looking all over for a decent driver for them. I was looking at A10 because it listed 4 ohm whereas this didn’t show any 4 ohm rating at all.
@@OldGuyHifi I’m quite surprised. For the money the amplifier sounds very good. My experience with it has been that it sounds significantly better with some break in. When I first unboxed it and hooked it up I nearly packed it right back up again. Then I left it on a looped playlist and ignored it for a couple days (the way work is this time of year that wasn’t hard to do). When I went back to it the SQ was a LOT better. This was very especially noticeable in high bias mode. I’d bought it as a holdover until I could afford a Vincent - SV-237MKII, but I’m really liking the Advance Paris. It’s confident, full bodied and just wonderful sounding. It has the Concept 50s fully awake, and paired with the Celestions it’s brilliant. Thank you for the rec. I hope others give this one a chance. For the money I am very happy with it.
Great video Ed! I am just starting and got myself an Elac DB 63. Looking for an amp to go with my Bluesound node. I am drawn to the A10 but price is a bit prohibitive. Wanted to get your thoughts on this one if it would go well with what I have. I read Rotel A11 and Cambridge AXR 85/100 bare pretty good too. Thanks in advance.
Stephen, The A10 is very nice. If you want an Advance Paris unit look at the X-i75. It is a wonderful sounding integrated amp with a great DAC and Phono pre, at $995 USD. I did do a review of it. Now I do personally own a Cambridge AXR100 which I dearly love. It is a remarkable value at $600 USD. Good power great DAC & Phono stage. I also reviewed that. I respect the A11 but to my ear it sounds a bit thin. If you like a more energetic sound the Rotel is a good choice. If you like a more neutralish/warmish sound the X-i75 is great. If you like a warmer, lusher sound then the AXR100 is great. I hope that helps you. Thanks for asking and watching.
Any thoughts on the ultimate sonic performance of this Advance Paris xi 75 versus an IotaVX Sa3/PA3 stack? I was contemplating going monoblock next month with the addition of PA3. Now I'm thinking...wait another month and GO for Advance Paris. You may not be familiar with IotaVX class AB 45 rms/channel. Either way I will be happy but my bias is toward the best sound. Any thoughts?
I have heard mixed reviews of the Iota gear. Some have said it is hashy in the mids. I don't know. I do know that the X-i75 sounds amazing, it had a very good built-in DAC and phono preamp. Plus it has a ton of gozintas and gozoutas. It would be my choice.
@OldGuyHifi Cool 😎. There are videos about condenser or capacitor failure after 2000 hours. Sounds great now but I bet that Advance Paris will last forever. I have Cabasse speakers, had Triangles before, Focal headphones and in 2 months... Advance Paris. I guess I have a fetish for FRENCH.
It does not. Most subwoofers have much better crossovers than the internal ones built into most amps. I actually prefer amps that just supply a full range line out or a pre-amp to run subs. What are you thinking about doing?
Do you think the Wolfson chip compares with an ess sabre chip? My two amplifiers that one of which I will purchase are the PA and the Cambridge cxa81 mkii. I want to buy the Paris Advance. A hifi guy has said the CA is the better performer with its ess. Any thoughts, please ? Thank you for your review.
Honestly it a subjective choice. I prefer almost any chip over an ESS chip. I reviewed the CXA81 MkII recently and the DAC was ok. I didn't use it much but it was fine. If it was my money, I would go Advance Paris. Tone controls, built-in phono pre, a lot more gozintas & gozoutas. As amps both sound great for sure. Fire the same money again I would get the AP. Let me know what you decide. Thx & Happy Holidays.
@@OldGuyHifi Hi there I will let you know which one I decide on. I appreciate your reply thank you. Probably go with the PA. The feedback on your experience with CA chip is very useful. Tone controls are what I would like. Merry Christmas and a great New Year.
Hi Ed! I'm a new subscriber. I really like your approach! I just dropped C$3000 on an audio lab 9000A integrated amplifier. I wish my dealer told me about these because I could've easily got the A-10 for less money and it is abundantly full of features. Anyhow, I'm wondering if you have any impressions of audio lab gear in general. I'm certain it's pretty easy to sell a 9000a and I could switch it out for this particular model or the a-10.
It's funny though because the guy who sold me my 9000A said that true hi-fi doesn't have Tone controls yet he says advanced Paris is somewhat close to McIntosh. But it has to controls so I guess it's not hi-fi…😂
I did do a review of the 6000A. I was very underwhelmed. I have no experience with the 9000A so I can't offer an opinion. I have been impressed with Advance Paris. I have no direct experience with the A10 but have a friend who owns one and swears by it. Thx.
No, That is the retail price. There are other sellers online that offer it for $995. I don't know what his policy is, maybe you can call Kevin and see if he will price match. I don't want to speak him though. Thanks for watching.
I’m putting together my last system for retirement I’m 66 will be 69 Lord willing when I slow down. Anyway currently have a Yamaha 1020 SL100C JBL4311. Would you recommend the Advanced Paris? Will it make that much difference?
Doug if it is a vintage Yamaha CR-1020 yes the X-i75 would be a huge upgrade. If it is a Yamaha A-1020 there are about 3 different versions starting in the mid 80s through to recently. The X-i75 is going to be in the running for my amp of the year at $1k. I would own one if I didn't already have wat too much stuff already.
I’m grateful for your time and I won’t keep bugging you my last question is I you had $2500 would you move up to the A10 or buy the 75 and get new speakers.
X-i75 & new speakers. Maybe some towers like my Wharfedale Diamond 12.4s, I know how that combo sounds and that could be my long term system. Let me know what you decide. Thx.
Are you sure the sub out doesn’t have a crossover? I thought that was the difference between a “sub out” rather than a “pre out” ? My sub does not have its own crossover. So, this would be important to me.
I am guessing that you know I have a pair also. They are both really good and close in sound signature with the DBR62s. The AXR100 is a smidge warmer through out the frequency range. The X-i75 is a bit more neutral and a bit cleaner on the high end. The X-i75's phono pre-amp and DAC are slightly better. If I had to choose honestly I would be happy with either but my heart is with the AXR100. It has been a good companion for many years. What are you considering?
@@OldGuyHifi Thank you for the reply. In my case I don’t have many options. I’m currently overseas and I need something dual voltage for when I return to the US. I’m considering the AP, ARX100, Arcam A25 and the Emotiva TA2. Before I used an Audiolab 6000a with the DBR62 but it wasn’t my favorite. I kept the speakers because they are well built and look really nice. I’m hoping to find a good match for them. Thanks again for your time.
@@dodpr Don't tell anyone but listening to the Arcam A25 as I type this. The first two units you mentioned would be a better choice. The Arcam while much better built, leans a bit toward the Audiolab sonically. It is much better than the 6000 but still a but mid forward. Shhh.
David, It is far better than using the TS-A75 and a WiiM as a preamp. If you are considering a Galion TS-A75 don't kneecap it by using the WiiM as a preamp. That would really lower the sound quality. I would pair a Schiit Kara with the Galion. That would sound very nice and not break the bank. Then the WiiM can just be a source. WiiMs are ok for the money. They are built to a price point and suffer accordingly. Thanks for the good question and the view.
@@OldGuyHifi oh really?! Okay then, I can wait. I do really want to make a decision though so i can just get it coming already. But wise money supports a little patience
Man, that's a tough one. I really like them both. If you are ok with the energetic top end of the KEFs then the CXA81 is a good choice. If you want to smooth the KEFs out a bit then the X-i75 would be magic. Both units are ballsy and dynamic with great sound. The X-i75 wins the gozintas & gozoutas category and I do prefer the Advance Paris' DAC. It also has a phono stage. Let me know what you decide. Thx.
@@OldGuyHifi Ok... so... let me give youth full configuration as source it would be the Wiim Ultra, optical output towards the amp is a DHLab Deluxe cable and from the amp to the speakers. @@panosevaggelatos3004 Two things: You ahve some great gear. please don't ruin it by using anything WiiM. That will be a huge choke point. @@OldGuyHifi First of all let's get acquainted. I am Panos. Nice to meet you big fun of your channel. Thank you for your kind words. I also think that CA streamers would be better but they were out of budget. I am not sure if that price for the CA would apply to the market I am in (Colombia) but I can order. So with the CA streamer you propose the CA CXA 81 would cooperate better probably (better than the Advance Paris)? So here is the deal... I want to create 2 systems using what I have and plus one for my apartment / study office. I already have a pair of KEF LSX with a Wiim pro a toshlink DHLabs Deluxe and Viborg power cords timelined by the Wii using a Umik 1 microphone in me living area and they sound great. I also have... a pair of JM lab 25th anniversary 927 Electras with Cairn Nanad Northface mono blocks connected with Siltech powerchords and interconnects xlr on Furutech powerstripas. I want to upgrade my small system with the KEFs and was thinking of the configuration I mentioned before. Do you have an email to email me on panosev @gmail.com or text me on +573176379076? I would appreciate the chat / talk and maybe share some Tidal playlists I have with you.
Wow. That is a great deal. BTW, I just got finished filming my review of the Advance Paris "PlayStream" A7 integrated and man is it really good. Watch this space.
That's full retail. I think resellers are discouraged from discounting on the web. It's galled MAP pricing. Minimum Advertised Price. Call Kevin maybe he will make you a deal. No promises.
I am thinking of selling my PA and going back to an Integrated. I like the Parasound NC 200. I am wondering if this has an HPF as my room likes having the bass from a different location than my main speakers.
@@OldGuyHifi Oh yes, you already know theres somethin behind them then. Michael Creek designing quality for 30+ years. People would like the 4040 ( OG model or new) and gettin the Creek name out more would be 👍 for that reason. ( good peoples, great product, pricing in line and under that of the quality level) Bang for buck, Quality equipment for the people. The orig. 99$ price, probably still working units an all; now looking around 1200. ($1000 mark + - $200 is pretty solid)
I bought it and gave it back. It's just low-grade china. The handle is loose, the transformer hums, the internal power supply makes a high pitched squeak. To me, it crosses all bounds of decency from the manufacturer. We are not living in the best era of audio component manufacturing.

I bet the computer you used to watch the video and write your comment was made in China. I will not allow anyone to disparage products based on country of origin.
The Advance Paris X-i75 is an outstanding performer and an amazing value. At around $1000.00 USD, I am not sure it has much competition. BTW, Pricing seems to be all over the place.
You explaining the SPDIF and USB connections at 3:00 min mark is priceless for me.
Wholeheartedly agree. Great stuff
@@knobbshots Thank you for tuning in.
Great review as always Ed. The entire Advance Paris lineup is very intriguing! Keep up the good work!
@@OldGuyHifi - I also have the Playstream A7, and it is good too. My favourite is the A12, those tubes just add the icing on the cake.
I auditioned this against the Arcam A5 which the UK Hi Fi press seems very impressed with (its the same price) and, frankly, the X-i75 was starkly superior- even my (non audiophile wife) could hear the difference- so we bought one!

Ed, you continue to do an excellent job reviewing. I will say that people judge appearance differently on products and in my case I'm appearance first audio file and this device that you are reviewing fails that test as it does not look special to my eyes and as a result we'll just be crossed off the list regardless of how good it sounds
As long as you find the stuff that makes you happy, that is all that matters. Thanks for watching.
Thank you sir for reviewing this Amp. I like advance Paris products and they are really good. Greetings to you. 😊
Greetings to you too. You're welcome. They are very good units.
Some high praise Ed. I know you don’t impress easily. This unit hits the mark for many out there. Worth consideration. Well done.
It did impress me with the sound and the gozinta & gozoutas. Nice unit for the money. Pretty too.
I'm a new listener I'm enjoying your videos ❤
Thank you so much.
The flexibility in the amount of inputs is something I’m keen to appreciate in this device and a price point that isn’t sticker shock. Thanks for giving us the tour!
Thank you.
Ed, great job man! Keep it going. Truly enjoy your channel and the insight you bring. It’s truly appreciated !!
I appreciate that!
It is an interesting unit. I would like to get my hands on one of the bigger units. Thanks my friend.
I think the A12 is a more powerful and upscale unit then the X-i75. Thanks for tuning in and commenting.
Love the T shirt. Nice review….no hyperbole….just solid discussion on your findings. Keep em coming 😊
Thank you sir.
Cool unit. Many great amps in this price range now a days.
Yes. I have the Audiolab 6000A and the Cambridge CXA81 MkII on house for review as well. So on the same price range. Should be fun.
Great review! This is definitely on my shortlist.
Another great one Ed! I am really impressed with so many of the Advance Paris products I’ve seen. I’d love to build a system on their products.
I was very impressed by the unit. It sounds wonderful and I love all of the inputs. It will be hard say goodbye to it. Thanks Eric for returning to the channel.
I got my Advance Paris A10 from Skylabs Audio and I am very happy.

Me too. Just received mine 2 weeks ago. The A10 is amazing. I'm always running it in bias mode. Are you?
@@chrisjames483 yes I am. I haven't felt the need to switch it yet

I did my review in High Bias mode for about 90% of the time.
Connectivity options are awesome on this one
I was very impressed with it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I am glad you have the unit that satisfies your needs. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for all the great affordable reviews Ed!
My pleasure!
Great music recommendations!
Thank you. Send me one of your playlists please.
Great review! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
@@billd9667 was looking for this comment, yes, the jumpers were misplaced. Should be from pre out to amp in 😁
@@rabezo I too appreciate the old Wolfson and Burr-Brown (TI) DACS. They are never “in your face”. They sound more like a ladder DAC than ESS and AKMs do.
I might have put them back in wrong in my haste. Sorry.
SPDIF can sound great when properly executed. My discontinued Schiit Eitr filters and reclocks a USB input and outputs as SPDIF. Advance Paris uses the AKM 4113 chip for similar DDC functions.
Yes. Well designed and well crafted. Thanks for stopping by the channel and commenting.
Great point and good tip. Thx.
Definitely gonna be a fun one
I had this exact same amp and was quite happy until I changed it to Atoll IN100. The IN100 is better in every way but this is still a nice amp. I must say that I liked the look in the beginning but this has now completely changed 😅
Atoll is very nice gear. Thanks for watching and sharing.
The X-i75 was great paired with Klipsch RP-160(= RP-600), when moving to better and more demanding speakers it lacked a little authority and control. I bought it in 2016 for 650€ and enjoyed it for a few years so I can´t complain 😊
Are you using the build in dac on the IN100 Signature? And are you still happy with it?
@@tessie4204 Yes, still very happy with it. I bought it without build in dac, because I don´t need it. I think the dac is actually ok but never tried it. To be complete I upgraded many parts (caps, resistors,...) which improved the sound quite a bit 🙂
You make great videos Ed
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
You are right blue is very common. I will listen to Hillary Stagg. Thank you for the suggestion, your comment and your view.
Arcam A15 would certainly be a competitor, as well as the Arcam SA20 that is really nice that can be had for around a grand now since it's an older model.
Arcam is very nice. I have owned some in the past. I will reach out to them. Thanks.
@@CinemaDemocratica You make a valid point. Balanced connections is a recent addition. We rarely had balanced back in the day.

Love your reviews. One thing I noticed, and I might be wrong, I believe you can access the tone controls via the main knob on the front of the unit.
Yes. I should have done a deeper dive on that. I don't use tone controls so it doesn't occur to me to talk about it. I am not saying there is anything wrong with tone controls, hell, I use an EQ. I just don't think about it. Thanks for pointing that out. I will try to be better about that stuff.

@@thecat6062 Thank you so much. I will try. You are welcome to let me know if I don't.

I wonder if Atoll is distributing in North America? It's great that we get all these excellent products from the UK and France, but it feels like a lot of the money spent to get them actually goes to various tax and dealers. I really enjoy your no BS approach to reviews. How would you compare this unit with the Technics SU-G700M2?
Joe, Honestly I don't have any real hands on experience with that unit. I have heard it and other Technics amps at shows and retailers. I would hazard a guess that the Advance Paris would be warmer and bit more relaxed sounding. Much less forward but with all the detail. I hope that helps. What were you thinking about?
@@OldGuyHifi Thanks for the straight forward reply. I currently have a vintage Technics SA-800 pumping Cerwin Vega 12 TR's. And for various reasons, I want to upgrade the receiver.
Would the AP be worth the upgrade? Or is it in the same legue as the HK?
Thanks.
Marantz and Rotel have amps in this price range with this amp
Yes. They do. If they responded to my requests for review samples you would see them.
The deal with Sachmo, I love the socks. heh.

Very informative, and enjoyable Ed ! Very interested in this amp ! As with your assessment of the Arcam A25 integrated amp being lean , and not engaging ! Is the i75 engaging, and not considered lean !? Would appreciate you thought on this ! Thanks

Thank you for the reply!👍
Great Review Ed! How does the A.P. compare to the Galion? I'd consider both if I were looking for an amp. Thank you for what you do!!! 👍👍👍
I just ordered one. Let’s see how it fares driving a pair of Q Acoustics Concept 50.
I would think that is going to a great combination. Keep me posted on your thoughts.
@ I have a cranky old pair of Celestion Ditton 551 that I’ll try with it as well. With the right amplifier they’re a lot of fun.

@@danab7472 Dana, I am so glad you like it. I was very taken with it. Keep me posted on your thoughts about it. Thx.
You mention a moving coil option on this amp. Is it selectable with the remote?
@@billd9667 it's a switch on the back I think.
Thanks Ed for your inputs. I really wish the Xi-75 had the VU meters. Also saw your review on the Playstream A7.👌
@@stephenso3 My my seating position I could see the meters on the A7 anyway.
Hi Ed - Thanks for the great review! Does this have internal bass crossover control for the subwoofer out?
Thx.
I wonder why recording studios have tone controls(EQ) must not be Hifi. Tone controls are a good thing.
Hi Ed, could you recommend a preamp for the X-i75?
It doesn't need one. It is an integrated amp so the preamp is built in. That is a wonderful bit of kit. Let me know how you like it.
Nicely Done.
Did Skylabs just raise the price to $1200 since you posted :(
No, That is the retail price.
Thank you
I’m grateful for your time and I won’t keep bugging you my last question is I you had $2500 would you move up to the A10 or buy the 75 and get new speakers.
X-i75 & new speakers. Maybe some towers like my Wharfedale Diamond 12.4s, I know how that combo sounds and that could be my long term system. Let me know what you decide. Thx.
I wished you had tested also with a large classical work.
I did. Mahler's 7th. Solti's 1960 Ring with the Vienna. I just try and mix up my music recommendations to keep it fresh.
Are you sure the sub out doesn’t have a crossover? I thought that was the difference between a “sub out” rather than a “pre out” ? My sub does not have its own crossover. So, this would be important to me.
Yes, I am sure. I checked the brochure, the owners manual and web site. No mention of a crossover. Sorry.
@ Thanks for the help, though :)
It does look good. I have the ELAC DBR62s. Do they sound better with the AP or the ARX 100? Thanks!
Shhh.
Hi pp,, nice review! Has anyone tried this amp with a pair of oberon 5s? Is it worth buying it?
Where did you get your fish tank screensaver from that is displayed on the tv behind you in the video ?
It is a Roku TV so it is part of what Roku offers.
Aren't those jumper in the wrong jacks. Should that be Pre Out - Amp In. In the video it is tying to outputs together.
I fixed them. In my haste I placed them in the wrong spot. Thanks.
How would this stack up versus Galion TS-A75 and Wiim Ultra? Speakers are AR-90's.
I'm selling my Sansui 881 and buying this. Worried about regrets...
I how not too. I really, really liked this unit. Well built and sounds great. Let me know what you think once you get it. Thx.
Does this have a HPF on mains when subwoofer is attached?
No. It has no x-over functions. Thanks for stopping by.
Okay, quickly narrowing down between this and IotaVX SA40….thoughts? Oh, I have Zu DW6
Carl, Hang on. I have reviews coming for the Audiolab 6000 & the Cambridge CXA81 MKII, All of which I think sounds better than IOTA. thanks.
@@OldGuyHifi oh really?! Okay then, I can wait. I do really want to make a decision though so i can just get it coming already. But wise money supports a little patience
The Advance Paris is warm and smooth, the 6000 has a forward midrange and the Cambridge has power with a capital P and smooth detailed sound.
How does it compare to the Cambridge Audio CXA-81? ... to be used til KEFs R3 meta or the new Kef Q Concerto Meta
The speaker cables are the Kimber Monocle X. There is also a CD player (wait for it... Micromega Solo with Kimber select XLRs and / or RCAs and / or Siltech ** RCA/XLR interconnects. Would love to hear your thoughts. on the best possible integrated amp.. and let me put one more in the Wolfpack. So it would be between Cambridge Audio CXA-81, Advance Paris X-i75 or Emotiva TA2. Please advise.
@@panosevaggelatos3004 Two things: You ahve some great gear. please don't ruin it by using anything WiiM. That will be a huge choke point. I would recommend the Cambridge MXN10 which just went on sale for $399. I think it is a far better streamer than even the Eversolo DMP-A6. Just as a streamer it is great. I am not s big fan of the internal DAC though. I have not heard the Emotiva enough to comment but with your rig, I think Cambridge. It has balls and a great dynamic presentation. Let me know your thoughts. Thx.
Do you have an email to email me on panosev
@gmail.com or text me on +573176379076? I would appreciate the chat / talk and maybe share some Tidal playlists I have with you.
Can I email you?
No XLR is a big fat no in this day and age, Mike Creek was fitting those in his integrated amps 10 years ago at the same price as this.
Balanced real benefit is on long cable runs. I am pretty confident that most people wouldn't hear the difference. Thx for tuning in.
Odd that it only has a connection for one pair of speakers.
Honestly I think that 90% of Hifi enthusiasts only run a single pair at a time. It makes sense. Thanks for commenting.
It cost only 750€ in Europe. Best bang for the buck!
Wow. That is a great deal. BTW, I just got finished filming my review of the Advance Paris "PlayStream" A7 integrated and man is it really good. Watch this space.
You sure this amp will blow me out of my mind? Will it blow me out of my couch and out the window too? I live on the 10th floor of a building.
As far as blowing you out the window, a lot will depend on what you had for dinner. Thanks for watching.
@@Douglas_Blake_579 LOL.
Why does the associated CD transport cost as much as the amp? That makes no sense. It's a CD transport... not that complicated.
I don't know. Maybe it is very well built.
I just checked the website, and it's being sold for $1,200..... :(
That's full retail.
@@DeMorcan It has no bass management just a summed full range mono sub output.

Bang for buck, Quality equipment for the people.
The orig. 99$ price, probably still working units an all; now looking around 1200. ($1000 mark + - $200 is pretty solid)
@@Crmsnraider It is good stuff and I would love to give the exposure it deserves. Thanks.
I bought it and gave it back. It's just low-grade china. The handle is loose, the transformer hums, the internal power supply makes a high pitched squeak. To me, it crosses all bounds of decency from the manufacturer. We are not living in the best era of audio component manufacturing.

Emotiva 2.0 🙄
They are very different units. Both very good just very different sonically. Thanks for watching.
