  • Wheels of Fire by Cream is one of the classic British Blues Rock albums. It features songs like ‘White Room’, ‘Spoonfull’ and ‘Crossroads’. In this video I compare a 1st UK stereo to a 1st UK mono to find out what the differences are.

I have always thought that the live album was actually recorded mono and processed to stereo? The studio mono is definitely a fold down. It's a weird mix, not a great sounding album compared the mono of Disraeli Gears. The stereo is better than the mono, although there are some fold downs that do in sound better than the stereo mixes.

Bass seems mixed low on most Cream albums. What a crime.

The only album in history where the stereo version is worse than the mono is Please Please Me.

But saying that it's great to hear the instrumentals out the left channel so accidentally good? I'm confused :-/

The Hor Zu of Please Please Me is actually pretty good (and stereo). Don’t you like the mono versions of Blonde On Blonde, Odyssey and Oracle, Fresh Cream, The Rolling Stones’ Self Titled and I Walk The Line? Just to name a couple of names.
