My team and I poured our heart into this video and it really pushed our limits. I want to know if you want to see this series brought elsewhere :) Thank you for being here
A good flow but perhaps a bit too lengthy without all the points the nomad were looking for? like a range of costs on the basics besides the beautiful landscape? Also, erm is it only me who prefers the film burns and page flips effects and yellow fonts? felt like the templates describing locations and stuff were a bit too generic, off a standard template? not the authentic leblanc storytelling style? just my view yeah!
Loved the video man! Great mix of cinematic, vlogging, camera angles, story telling, etc. I like the longer videos too that make it feel like a mini-movie. Would deff watch more digital nomad deep dives on other cities. Brings back great mems from the trip too :)
I love Portugal! The food, the people, the architecture, the vibes! Oh, and my local friend (American expat) took me to that same beach (at 7:20). I have been there twice and considered moving there.. still an option! And yes, I like this new format!
Normally don't comment or last through a super long video but I watched the whole thing!! Loved this deep dive and now I will absolutely get myself to Portugal!
I'm portuguese, and have to say, this videos represents very well the lifestyle here. Except for a local who makes on average 1000€ a month 😅 But for someone making around 3-4k a month (after tax), yes, you can enjoy a very reasonable life!
@@myxaxy4ka yes. Now it’s the same tax for digital nomads and Portuguese population. You can pay up to 48% and there’s an extra “temporary” tax that goes up to 52%… it’s outrageous 🙄 Then you have 23% gst, 100% tax on fuels, cars are extremely expensive. Non sense

Fantastic video! My partner and I are both from the UK but we have been living in Lisbon for the last few years after travelling for the best part of 6 years as digital nomads. I must say however that if we didn't have our own apartment here in the city, which we purchased around 3 years ago, we would find it difficult to afford the same lifestyle that we had whilst living and travelling throughout Asia. The cost of living has skyrocketed and the average Portuguese person who earns around 1200 euros a month wouldn't be able to afford to live in this city, which is a shame. We are both from the UK and work in e-commerce and graphic design, and even for us, it is an expensive city to live in. We feel a great sense of gratitude for the lives that we lead. A lot of the places that you have highlighted in the video would be out of bounds to many though for it to be sustainable, unless of course you earn good money or frequent them once in a while as a treat. The Time Out Market is insanely expensive for what it is and the co-working spaces are unaffordable to many. I am not sure whether it is just that we earn less than the average digital nomad, or whether it is just that digital nomads nowadays are earning a lot more, whether that be coming from corporate positions, or from countries where their purchase power is a lot greater.
Digital nomads (and lack of timely action from the government, of course) are one of the reasons why housing crisis exists and prices got unbearable for Portuguese people to live. Young Portuguese workers (with higher education) are now forced to share housing or even return to their parents homes due to the rise of prices in the bigger cities. It has become a really dire situation for some. Portugal is a great place to enjoy if you're a millionaire, not if you're a middle/lower class citizen
This is beyond false... Just compare all prices to anywhere in France, Italy, Greece. Portugal is one of the cheapest countries to visit in all of Europe.
Blaming digital nomads for Lisbon's rental issues is misguided. There are around 16,000 nomads compared to 5.4 million tourists annually - so tourists outnumber them by about 300 to 1. The vast number of tourists drives demand for short-term rentals, reducing long-term housing availability and raising prices. The real issue is the tourist influx, not the relatively small number of digital nomads.
Do not blame the Digital nomads for that, blame the greedy land lords that are taking advantage of this situation. I do not live in Lisbon or Porto i live in the center of portugal and there are no digital nomads here and still the rents are more than double and i am not talking house prices because they are stupiditly high, looks like all the houses are made in gold
This is hands down one of the most engaging videos I've watched from your channel. The editing and the supporting visuals were spectacularly vibrant without being distracting. The video coincided with my piqued curiosity regarding nomad life in Portugal and already helped immensely with the update regarding tax. I would have liked a little more information on actual longer term living costs (like monthly rental prices) and a summary of potential monthly living expenses at different levels of lifestyle, as the costs highlighted were more from a tourist perspective like you mentioned. You did however give sufficient hints with the comparisons to grocery prices in Portugal and elsewhere. All in all an awesome video, and looking forward to the next deep dive like this one. 👏🏾👏🏾
Don't move to Portugal if you're a digital nomad please :) it's driving rent prices crazy and portuguese people can't afford to live in their own cities
@@bea631 If you cannot afford living in Lisbon then ...move to the country. Those who can pay for the rents have the right to live there. As a Portuguese myself, from Aveiro, I think Portugal has always benefited tremendously with tourist interest and asking a tourist or expat to not consider Portugal for his temporary/definite residency is nothing more than a betrayal of all that our country stands for. All expats are welcome if they care to make Portugal rich in culture and lifestyle!
@@TaniaSaucy I don't disagree that Portugal benefits from tourist interest, but an expat is not a tourist. I Love this video format and this serie, amazing quality as usual Christian! I am ready for the next one, it answered many questions i had about Portugal
Fun video. Went to Lisbon in March. Amazing place. Walked all over the city with 3 kids and had an amazing time. Sintra is a great day trip. We flew on TAP airlines to Madiera for 4 days and that is a place that does not disappoint. The adventure there is amazing and scenery is beautiful. Highly recommend checking it out.
Thank you! Loved the long format for this type of video. Was actually considering moving to Portugal and this did definitely help with that! Would love for you to do that for all kinds of destinations (I'm thinking even places like Vietnam, Thailand...) or obvious ones like Dubai...
Next time you need to explore more Porto city! I’m from Porto and you have a lot of nice spots (ones similar to Lisbon and others completely different and super amazing) trust me!! Super video, nice editing, a short movie 🇵🇹
This longer format, half-informative, half storytelling is Netflix worthy. Cinematic and narration is always on point. I would binge a whole series. Although 30mins might just be that little bit more digestible. Love the fun title cards too 👏🏽 Thanks for all the entertainment over the years 🙏🏽
Loved the video! So relax and nice ambiance thru out. What i've learned about Lisbon it's that the housing situation is more complex then that. The rent is to high for locals so they can't live in the city. And the contractors have a hard time restoring old buildings. I think last time I've check it was a bout 60.000 empty buildings in Lisbon due to this. I hope this wonderful country and city gets back on its feet with the housing market soon.
In 1987 i was sent to be a Mormon missionary in the Lisboa area. I hated preaching but i was able change to be more of a service missionary and really help people. I've been agnostic now longer than I was Mormon, and i can't wait to experience Portugal 180 degrees differently now that I'm moving there in a year. ❤
@Lostlablanc you should visit Cape Verde to be more specific the island of Sal and Boa Vista. This islands have one of the most clearest water I have ever seen. Also the food and the culture is amazing.
As usual I get so excited when you have a new video out and this was another fantastic one…..as all The others are as well!! I love traveling with you guys. Thank you
For some reason my attention spam made it all the way to the end of the video! Love these videos specially because you do such a good job at storytelling and vlogging. Good in video tips on how I can improve on my videos/ journey to make travel content as well.
I loved this format, as a person that work online, I find it useful to compare different places. Definitely Lisbon or Portugal is not the cheap country it used to be, but still more affordable than many other countries in Europe. As for digital nomads, popular cities are not the best if we are looking for value. I’m from Spain and I can assure you Barcelona is far away the most expensive city in the country. I would suggest cities like Zaragoza or Malaga.
Super video! Could have crammed even more info into 45mins, but I think this relatively slowed-down style is perfect for giving people an overview of a place and getting a feel for it. Then when they need more granular info before moving they can do their own research. Think a great addition to this series would be Mexico City!
Loved this longer format! Wish you went to Ericeira tho! Would be curious to have similar review for other surf destination for digital nomads: Mexico, central America (Nicaragua, El Salvador) and Bali!!
Wow, that's impressive! I've heard of them I'm excited to hear about their success stories. I've actually had my mortgage paid off by following their guidelines calls.
I like this format. Echoing someone else’s opinion here: I like that it’s both informative and storytelling. I do think it would benefit from sticking to the purpose a bit more. More about people’s experiences living there, more about the pros and cons sprinkled throughout. More facts about working and living there. Specially more about how to do it for less.
Income tax has a progressive rate that is ranging from 13% to 48%, so you only pay the max tax on anything you make above ~€80k. €80k might seem low for some, especially Americans; but the average salary here is below €20k. The difference is that you can live comfortably on that salary here in Europe. A household income (not single person) of €80k would put you into the top 15-20%.
As a vlog this video is a 10/10. as a Lisbon guide it is a 8/10. the storytelling, pacingand structure isn’t quite there. The cinematography the editing are great. I was also considering Portugal but boy it got expensive
Imagine the locals, who are evicted from their homes where they have lived all their lives, so that a North American couple can live in that same house.
Loved this great look at Portugal, Christian. I'd be there in 2.5 (and on your program) but retirement has gotten in the way. I know I could make great videos and content, I have followed this channel for years and has inspired me. I have a drone, GoPro, Osmo 4, but an old iPhone XR and no decent camera to start vlogging!
Wow such a great video @lostleblanc Thanks so much for the inspiration. I love the way of flowing with locals, so important while traveling for appreciation of culture and local people and so much fun with those people! Lisbon is on my list! 😃 How do we join those creator group adventures of yours? All the best 😃 South of Spain would be great place to film too, I used to live for a year in Cadiz. Check it out 👍
You've been in many touristic places, the real Portuguese food isn't found in those places and much affordable if not seafood that's expensive. Also you can get everywhere with transports no need for taxis. Lisboa is expensive to stay, but the food I consider it's not, you have a beer for 1 euro, I'm living in Barcelona now and it costs 3 euros. You can stay cheaper if crossing the river or staying in other places then the center.
Great video! Not quite true regarding the tax benefits though and you seriously understated how good they are (0% for income sourced outside of Portugal, 20% for income sourced in Portugal). That is, via the Non-Habitual Regime (NHR). The new government has made a u-turn and they have extended the application period until the end of 2025. Regardless of the NHR going or staying: There is another option that is pretty decent if you're a freelancer, creator with ad/affiliate/sponsorship income or e.g. software developer who sells software. Namely the Simplified Regime (Recibo Verdes). There are different categories with varying flat tax dedudcations. You can't deduct expenses, but get a generous fixed/flat deduction, meaning you're taxable income is lowered considerably.
Fun video, but Not true: the Porto bookstore did not inspire Harry Potter. Even JK Rowling posted a confirmation that she had never visited the shop. We visited Lisbon in April & found prices can be average if you have a kitchenette & willing to get groceries. We loved grabbing fresh squeezed orange juice & bifana sandwiches at the kiosk & small shops!
Traveling videos have to evolve in order to keep up the interest of the public, that's why they add challenges like leaving the comfort zone which makes a better story... Living for two weeks on an airbnb and going to tourist areas is kind of... normal, making it more informative than the excitement of an adventure. In my opinion your endeavor goes more into the cinematic than the content it self.
Costa del Sol is our favourite! Estepona specifically right next to Marbella with amazing fitness scene and can easily do weekend trips to Portugal and Morocco! Within Andalucía you have Tarifa, Cadiz, Ronda and many many more. Hit us up if you plan to come down ;)
I’m from Lisbon, born and raised, and have lived in the US for over two decades. While I appreciate your efforts, I didn’t appreciate the “samba” music in the background. That literally has nothing to do with Portuguese culture. Would you have “samba” in the background for a video on New York City? My point is that there’s lots of Portuguese music that you could use instead. And remember that “the locals” are not Brazilian.
Not a big fan of this video because there’s so much padding and not enough information. Found myself fast-forwarding a lot to get through segments that felt more like you’re giving us a generic travel vlog with random moments. Good cinematics but I think your Turkey series is still the peak of your storytelling, cinematics, and information. This was a sleeper for me and it took 3 times for me to actually get through it. Could’ve been half the time with more focused information instead of all this padding.
Yeah there were some portuguese seeing the video :D and...yeah...a lot of things are right but a bit mainstream and can't agree with everything! But for sure the city center, due for being so famous and touristy it's getting very expensive but portugal it's so much more then the center (old town) of lisbon. cheers

All that was missing was to visit Badoca Safari Portugal which is in Alentejo, it is a kind of mini Africa in Portugal
Awesome video as always❤
Welcome to my beautiful Lisbon 😊
LOVED THIS VIDEO!!
Christian nailing it once again , da house !!!
I was thinking they recently changed the tax situation. Is this still accurate? Thanks in advance!
@@JessicaHarding-l5o It's still accurate. NHR is still alive and well and ditto is the simplified regime.
I really enjoyed this video!
You definitely should have been longer in Porto, there’s so much more than that! But good video ☺️
Awesome
Nice video
Thank you very much for sharing
Love Portugal, I’m thinking of relocating
Love this video to be honest I still didn’t finish it yet but love this style
Fun video, but Not true: the Porto bookstore did not inspire Harry Potter. Even JK Rowling posted a confirmation that she had never visited the shop. We visited Lisbon in April & found prices can be average if you have a kitchenette & willing to get groceries. We loved grabbing fresh squeezed orange juice & bifana sandwiches at the kiosk & small shops!
Love it. PT rules. Thanks 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
You paid 53€ for 2 people for dinner. Here in America we pay 20 for 1 bowl at chipotle
Going to Lisbon soon! What is the digital nomad meet up that’s every Thursday?
Hit us up if you plan to come down ;)
LITERALLY KILLING IT
Goto China next! I haven't seen any travel videos by you of China? You will 100% be impressed and surprised (in a good way).
I noticed the same thing, I thought “well, this is not Brazil” 😮
It's like the video I saw of Hawaiian hula dancers set to an African tribal chant. Soooo disrespectful.
Yes me and my partner both found this. Felt very disappointed as I love the weekly videos
What a place to live! 😎🙌
Yeah there were some portuguese seeing the video :D and...yeah...a lot of things are right but a bit mainstream and can't agree with everything! But for sure the city center, due for being so famous and touristy it's getting very expensive but portugal it's so much more then the center (old town) of lisbon. cheers
