  • Mt John Walkway is an 8.0 kilometer loop trail located in Lake Tekapo, Canterbury, New Zealand. The views of the surrounding lakes and mountains are spectacular. Mount John also has an observatory and is a fantastic spot for stargazing/astrophotography.
The way up is shaded and a bit steep but only for a half-hour. If you don't feel like hiking to the top, you can drive up. There is a cafe at the top of the hill with a popular place for picnics and photos. Don't forget your sunscreen!

Lovely video. We did this walk in the spring, up to the cafe for a coffee, had no idea the landscape got so frosty in winter

Was our first snowy experience in NZ 😊 The landscape is beautiful and they've got hot pools at the start/end of the track

It's certainly a special part of the world. We have Kepler and Routeburn booked for the end of 2021 and hoping we make it given the COVID situation. We love your channel and look forward to the next series of adventures in NZ.

Alan that sounds so amazing and we're so excited for you! We heard all the Great Walks for this upcoming season sold out in a matter of hours, which is awesome to see. Moving over here was a complete nightmare due to the recent outbreaks in NSW and Victoria, but we couldn't be happier to be here. We're so excited to have a whole new country to explore!
I'm sure by the end of 2021 everything will be okay and you'll have no issues coming over 😀. If you do get stuck for whatever reason though, Danya and I will happily take your spot 😂
Thank you for the continued support Alan, we really appreciate it 🙏❤️. Have an amazing time on the Great Walks this year 🏞️🥾

Looks a beautiful place to hike a bit on the slippery side going on those icy paths though. Look forward to your next venture!

I'm looking forward to the walk. Also hoping for a clear night so as to take advantage of the observatory. Thank you, again, for sharing and for the advice on trails and questions answered. One more, if I may. Mount Burns looks like a shorter, view-filled hike. Have you been there or heard good/bad about it? Any thoughts are appreciated. Sorry, I lied, one one more. The trail around Lake Manapouri and driving to the campsite versus taking a water taxi, or other suggestions. Thanks.

This was our first hike/walk in New Zealand! Hope you get clear skies as well. If I remember correctly, I think it was pretty cloudy when we were there... it was also freezing so I'm not sure how long we would have lasted outside anyways 😅
Never done Mount Burns but it definitely looks like a good one, definitely give it a go!
We've never been to Lake Manapouri, but we enjoy taking water taxis when available; as long as the weather is decent!

@Chris and Danya Yeah, I read it gets pretty cool up there even without the snow. Doing it without snow will be fine by me. Sounds good and thank you again for the info.

Perth to Queenstown - big move. Was it the snow, chasing Bigfoot or the mountains that made you move? Look forward to following you travels in the land of Rings and Conchords 😁

Bigfoot just tends to pop up whenever Danyas around snow....strange stuff 🤔
The move was mainly because we were missing the mountains, although now that we're hiking up them again, it sure is hard work 😂
We're also hoping to spend some more time snowboarding and mountain biking while we are here.
As always, thank you for the continued support Gary, we really appreciate it ❤️🙏
